The place I have chosen to write about is the nearest Macy to City Tech. It takes about 15 mins to get there by walk from City Tech. I chose this clothing store to be my location is because Macy is one of the most famous and popular cloth shopping stores, I would like to let more people know there is a Macy near by our college so they can go shopping there when they have a break before the next course began. I personally don’t like to go to shopping, it wastes too much energy, and later will be hard for me to gain those losing energy back again. But unfortunately I still have to go there for some reasons. For instance, when I made a character design for my manga I have to consider what she/he to wear. Fashion is different for every year and seasons, so I have to go to Macy to explore for their new outfit. From my observation of Macy, I realize this Macy is the largest store in this area. There is a McDonald juxtaposition to it, compared to Macy, it is too small, but McDonald has a bigger Logo brand so people could see their logo and then notice the existence of the McDonald easier than Macy. I had explored inside this Macy for once only, the information I have for now is not enough to write a complete essay yet. I decide to go there again in the near days. I believe the next time I will gather more information to write about.

Project 2: Location
For this project i chose a 99 cent store next to a jewelry store on the corner of Lawrence Street and Helen Keller Place. First you exit out the Namm building from the 300 Jay Street side and turn right. You keep going straight for 2 blocks until you reach Willoughby Street, once you get to Willoughby Street you turn left and cross the street and keep going straight until you reach a jewelry store called Giovanni’s Fine Jewelry and next to it is a 99 cent store called 99 cent City.
City Limits Summary
The First chapter of the novel The Colossus of New York by Colson Whitehead called “City Limits” is about the perception of how people see New York whether they aren’t from here either they moved here or just visiting and comparing them to how people would see New York if they are from here born and raised. He calls it being a true new Yorker. ” You are a New Yorker when what was there before is more real and solid than what is here now.” Basically he says that you’re a true New Yorker when you start to notice change in the Neighborhoods and not when what’s there now is all you know about. When you go to these places and you feel nostalgic and you have those memories, that’s when you know you’re a true New Yorker. Whitehead also states that everyone that visits New York makes their own sense or their own interpretation of what New York was like or how it looks like as soon as they take their first step in New York.
Project #2: Including Senses
My chosen location is located at the corner of Prince Street and Myrtle Avenue, about 10 minutes walking distance from City Tech. In this particular corner, you’ll notice a couple of very tall corporate buildings, and also a very large neighborhood of housing complexes. You can also see a lot of construction sites surrounding this area. Because of these sites, there’s a strong smell of sawdust, mixing concrete, and burning in the air. It isn’t too pleasant of a scent. It also comes with very loud and ear piercing noises like jack hammers beating at the concrete, heavy machinery being operated, and lots of men yelling back and forth between each other. Looking at this location, you can see a distinct juxtaposition of the housing complexes and the corporate buildings. This is why I chose it. When I look at this location, I see half of it as a very higher class area, with lots of people in business suits and expensive stores. The other half however, seems more of a lower class area, with mostly very old looking apartments. The area is not very well kept either. Its interesting because these two areas are literally right next to each other, with no more than a line to cross between the two, giving it a very contrasting juxtaposition.

I’ve come across this word in the reading excerpt “Reading Lucy”. This word can be found in the quote “So I’ll throw in another kiss and just an inchy wincy pinch on the aft end”. This quote came from a letter Lucy wrote to her husband Alfred when he left for boot camp. From learning what aft means, it would make sense that Lucy would be at an aft end because she was a mechanic at a Navy Yard in World War II. These letters were ways that Lucy could give her love to Alfred while he was away.
Summary “City Limits”
Colson Whitehead, whom is the author of the book “The Colossus of New York”, talks about how people view New York in their eyes opposed to others in the first chapter “City Limits”. In the first paragraph Whitehead is questioning the reader about how they have arrived to this city and with what intention. Whitehead talks about the different ways the city is advertised to other parts of the world and how this attracts people to the city, but to us who have been here do not see any of that glamour that the movies, TV shows, and music talk about. When I read the first paragraph I felt as if there was a fast pace to it since some sentences seemed longer than others. It reminded me of how some people here actually do speak pretty fast, and how our daily environment is rushed. He then starts talking about how the different experiences in New York build up memories and the way you see things. For example, if you came as a child, you would probably not see the same things an adult would or perhaps not even feel the same way about it as they do. Whitehead then starts talking about how his New York looks like to him. How he can still see an old building that is now something completely different, not because he sees things but because he remembers it how it was and not for what it is now.He also talks about how even the places we moved from or rooms we have been in are our witnesses of the things we have done. He puts personification to the old apartments he has lived in. I also sensed maturity throughout the reading, because in the beginning he would talk a lot more ignorant about how people view things, but then starts talking about how that is what makes it unique to us and how we should not let anyone say different, not even facts.Whiteheads goal I believe is to encourage people to keep building their New York the way they want to, even if in the end it probably will never be the same.

We got this word today in COMD 1100. I didn’t understand what this word meant let alone how to pronounce it. Now that I know what the exact meaning of the word is I understand how it goes with the lesson we were learning today.
Project #2: Location (1st and 2nd post)
The location I chose is 116 Jay street. To get here, you exit left from the Namm Building and continue straight all the way, as if you were headed to the Vorhees building, until you hit the Manhattan Bridge. You will then come to Prospect street, make a right then a left back onto Jay street. There you will see an underpass right under the Brooklyn- Queens expressway. There are two murals across from one another that both read “YES!”. This manifests the idea of overlapping New Yorks and juxtapositions because the murals show great contrast from one another. The mural on the left side has a black background with white text. The text is made from a single line similar to script writing. The mural on the right has waves of water as a background and an octopus’ tentacles form the word “YES!”. The mural on the right also contains lots of colors, patterns and textures in relation to the left mural which is simple, black and white. Juxtaposition can also be seen when comparing architecture versus street art. At the location, the main sensory experiences I had were visual and auditory. Visually i got to see the murals and the location all around me. there were many cars parked on both sides and very little pass there. If you do see people it’s usually construction workers or photographers. There is more artwork as you walk along that area. Lot’s of beautiful artwork and inspiration all around. Galleries and all, if you haven’t gotten this way towards jay street check it out. 🙂

Project #2: Location
For the project #2, I chose to go the Empire Fulton Ferry Park. Before I looked at the map to choose the place, I thought this was the best place for people to know it. To get to this location you exit out of the Namm building and turn left to the Jay street, then go through the Jay street to the York street and turn left. Keep going to the Washington street and turn right to the Plymouth street, before you walk into the Plymouth street. The important thing is around those street have a fascinating place for people take a rest and most attractive shop. When you walked into the Plymouth street, the Manhattan Bridge is on your right side (picture one). I keep walking to the left side, then will see the Jane’s Carousel and the Brooklyn Bridge in front of you (picture two). I whiled away the whole afternoon watching the beautiful view of Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridge. There is really perfect for people just sit and take some pictures, also keep you into the relax mood. By the way, the night view is pretty awesome, you have to wait for watch the night view. It’s worth to introduce there for everyone. Also, you can go through the Brooklyn Bridge to the Canal street if you want.
