My name is Brandy I am a freshman here at Citytech. I graduated from Celia Cruz High School of Music, and while attending there I played percussion. I’m a pretty shy person at first, but eventually I open up the more familiar I get with the person. When I do open up I am a funny, bubbly, weird individual who is pretty open minded to new ideas. My passions lie in learning, creating, animation and imagination. I love learning not only new artistic techniques, but other skills and knowledge. Learning motivates me to keep on pursuing new things to try instead of staying stuck with a routine. Learning also helps me find the answers to the unraveling questions that I think of which is a satisfying feeling to me. With creating, being able to bring out imagination to real life whether it’s from mine or someone else’s vision is fascinating, because a lot of interesting ideas dwells within people’s mind. Creating keeps me busy which is a good thing because I hate not having something to do. I enjoy animation because this form of expression can be really effective when it comes to creating a great story. In animation I find there’s more life being put into the characters development, plotline and conflicts. Animation really engages me to want to know what will happen next and to make me feel what my favorite characters are feeling.

 

   With imagination I love wandering into my own world, taking a break from reality at times. Being able to come up with ideas that seem pretty unreal and having a feel for that fantasy is something that I can’t get bored from. Although I’m still expanding my design aesthetic, I would say I’m captivated by color. Color brings about a reaction from people and depending on the color or shade I use, I can give out the most accurate atmosphere for my piece. For example, a lighter shade of pink versus a darker shade such as hot pink. With light pink the word I would use to describe it is mollify. With hot pink, I see it more as spunky and energetic. When blending these shades together, you get something that is cohesive even though when separated you get a different feeling from both shades. My main favorite color to use is blue. To me the color blue is bold yet gentle, and by that statement I mean that it has balance in the way it shows itself which is why many people including myself enjoy its presence.

 

I would say that my avatar portrays my carefree,adventurous personality. I’m also a very visual person so this avatar is very appealing to me. The sky has a nice blend of yellow, pink and dark blue. The sky has an aura from a polar region mix in with a night and sunset look which gives a sense of supernatural. There’s a girl releasing petals into the wind from a pedestal that overlooks various landscapes. The landscapes are a combination of aquatic, polar and grassy elements. The sunset adds a nice highlight over the girl and the pedestal. The way the petals carry off into the wind conveys being free to explore the world which is something I always look forward to in life. The girl letting go of the petals represents me letting go of everything that weighs me down so that I can move on and enjoy life. The various sceneries depict the beauty I see in the vast world we live in. Beauty is not only pleasing in an aesthetic way but just having it exists makes us forget the ugly that also exists in this world. The different landscapes shows the adventures I wish to have in the future. This image really sets the way I like to imagine by the way the colors come together and make this image feel like a dream.

 

Some misinterpretations people could get from my avatar is that it is spiritual. This reason can be due to the fact it the woman seen in the picture looks like she is praying or practicing a ritual of some sort. People could interpret that she could be a farmer because of her possession of the petals, and pots that seem to resemble having wheat inside. Another interpretation someone might have when looking at my avatar is that the woman is killing the flowers by pulling them of their stems.

 

My profile conveys that I’m an easygoing, adventurous person that is just fascinated by what the world has to offer. Also that I have a very whimsical vision when it comes to imagination. This matters to me because imagination is what makes me optimistic for the future, which is an necessity. It is necessity because I can see myself working in a field where it requires thinking outside the box. In five to ten years I see myself gaining more skills so that I can do multiple projects. I like to be versatile so the more I learn I believe is beneficial. I see myself traveling to new places and encountering new experiences. With my profile I can show what I have to offer and what I my interests lie in.
 

Project #1 (Revised)

My name is Jingyi (Jingyi Jiao). I was born in China, and came to the US when I was 13 years old. Before I came to live in here, I only know the easiest sentences for greeting, just like “hello” or “how are you”. So it was difficult and took me a long time to try to communicate with others. My English is still improving. Hopefully, I will become voluble and more fluent in English after I graduate college. I graduated from Midwood High School. During the time to make a final decision about which college to apply to, I was falling in deeply thinking about what I prefer to do in the future. I did some research on the college websites before to apply, and I noticed City Tech has a better art or design program, the distance is also not too far away from my home since I live in Brooklyn, so I chose to apply to the City Tech( New York City College of Technology). I love to draw manga, to read manga, and to watch anime began in childhood. Even many years later, the passion for it has never changed. I determined my future career must to be related to anime and design, such as animator, manga artist, or graphic designer, or the voice actress for anime. However, these were my occupation insights before this summer. I am now also interested in creating film as well. I developed this interest during this summer when I was volunteering at the creative department of a TV station names NTD ( New Tang Dynasty). As a staff volunteer, I went with an advertisement crew to make an advertising film. The director was stylish, voluble, and with a strong capability of directing. I was fascinated with that ability, and felt to be a director is a right occupation for her to express my creative and leadership ability. So now I add in a new future career in my consideration list which is the director. Apparently, this is the reason why I chose to enroll at City Tech, because they teach a lot about the computer program usage, including graphic design, film editing and animation courses.

My aesthetic is showing in my avatar completely. My avatar is a full shot of a Calico cat, tightly stuck his face on the camera lens. His features are big eyes, small mouse, and a huge puffy face. These features indicate one kind of genre as Japanese anime style. In my knowledge, in Japan they have two genres are called anime and manga. Manga can be multicolor or black and white, but without special circumstances or cover page they use to have black and white as figure only. Anime is opposite, it always has to be done by multicolor, the figure has to be colorful, sometimes with multiple movement such as animation of anime. They do have genres in America as well, but they call them as cartoon and comic, different calling and art style. Cartoon and comic are unfamiliar to me, I prefer Japanese genres more. Basically, my avatar’s genre is anime, its not varicolored manga because of manga with multicolor will never be this simple, manga are always coloring in complex ways.

My avatar can be considerate in a few different ways. Some people might misunderstand it as my avatar is just showing how comical, weird, and slothful the Calico cat is, but actually there are more tiny contents in this avatar you haven’t noticed. This avatar is  reflecting my inner. Calico cat stuck on the camera lens is not part of his playful, it can be defined as he pursues to get closer to the others, wants to make friends, and wants to encounter with more people. He desired to talk with more people, so he will not be alone. And this avatar is from a Japanese anime, so people watch cartoons might harder to understand the art style. Same as me, I don’t really get the cartoon style, different culture contains different genres of art, and try to explore these different genres are our designer’s job.

My complete profile will convey who I am. What am I good at and bad at, what I don’t like and do like, what my career goal is, and what my hobby is. I am trying my best to let my classmates and people to know more about myself. My overall life will  never live without anime and manga. I will be glad if I got a chance to go to Japan, so I could visit the place where Japanese anime produced and met with those amazing manga artists. I wish I could visit there in the near future.

Project #1 (Revised)

     My name is Ayano Morishima, I was born in Japan and moved to the United States. I graduated from the high school, The Global Learning Collaborative (GLC) in the year of 2015. I had no connection in any of the art department other than ceramics though my course of study. I am now nineteen years old and going to New York City Technology to learn more about the arts; to be able to move one step closer to my dream.

      My passions lie in anime, because it’s what I grew up with. When I was little, I used to watch these different types of kids animation that intrigued me into thinking, “It will be awesome if I could create something like that!”. As I grew up, the variety of anime or should I say genre of anime expanded. The expansion made me watch more teen type of anime where the graphics and the action was much more. Because of this experience, I eventually started drawing anime as I practiced off other people’s work which it made me to create my own. I also like anime because it is almost a fantasy that will never come true in life. Sure, there are shows that turned to live actions. However it’s different because of anime, they could create something beyond. Many of my friends insist on me becoming an manga artist, however I refused. There are two reasons, first I cannot draw the same character and second living as a manga artist is a hard in financial terms. First problem can be solved, if I keep working on my drawing skills, however I cannot go through life which takes a lot of time selling manga and receiving money off of it. Instead, I want work as a character designer by hand and digitally. I’m usually aesthetic about my art work, because I get frustrated when final drawing looks horrible than the one I imaged in my head. Where some body parts are bigger or smaller than to others. I am more into modern style of anime drawings, because old characters are drawn in a simple structure. Such as long face and big shiny eyes. I like to draw more complex and detailed characters which most people are more interested.

      Usually I draw most of the time with a single pencil, but I hope I learn how to use various range of pencils. So that I could expand my drawing skills. Recently I am into digital drawing on a tablet. I find digital drawing interesting because there were techniques that I was able to do digitally and not by hand.

Avatar:

      The avatar that I chose was a character from the BGM that I recently found on YouTube. (If interested, the music is from this link: Here) I fell in love with it, because of the catchy lyrics and the awesome beat grabbed my heart instantly. After that started to go to its official website where I encountered with the avatar. Before knowing it, the character itself matches my personality and the features. As I looked closely, his sharp eyes and angry eyebrows shows a powerful and smart mentally. However his one hand is covered over his chest, this action makes the connection that I also have the weak side and doesn’t always acts strong. We both have a same length of hair, however the difference of the avatar is that I don’t have a white hair and my gender is a girl.

      My avatar can mislead people into thinking that I am mean or cold to people, because of the facial expression. Also, the characters that are written in the paper might mislead people that it is in Chinese characters rather than Japanese. Many people say that they are the same, however they are not. In history that these characters came from China. However, when it came across to Japan those characters changed a little to a simple character which people could understand more. In addition where the characters looks more girl like than the guy. In addition, people may say that I like to draw chibi’s meaning characters that has big head and little bodies. I picked the avatar, because it is adorable and fits my personality. However when I draw, I prefer to draw more of a regular characters.

      My profile conveys that I am a hard worker, and an amazing person who has a passion for anime. My imagination can go beyond the world, and always have a creative story that I can just make a book about it. Hoping that my creative imagination will become real in animation and my creativity would be acknowledge. This profile matters to me because this is who I am and always will be. After 10 or 20 years, I would still be interested in anime and have a creative mindset. If I changed, it will most likely be that I’ve become a boring person who only thinks about reality. Its good to have a time to be in your own world.

City limits summery

“City limits” is the first chapter in “The Colossus Of New York” by Colson Whitehead. The reading talks about the New York City and the lives within. New York is different city than the other cities you’ve been to. This city can’t be described in words nor can’t be shown in a television show. You just have to be here to know what it truly is. The city is always changing. From the bodegas in the corners to the skyscrappers. But the people living in the city doesn’t quite see it because they’re changing with city at the same time. They’re part of that change. But when they stops for a second and turn around to look back they see the change that took place. Who they were, who they are now and who they alawys wanted to be. Just like the city. And when you realize how much you’ve change you become desperate to find the middle ground in between the phases.

ENG1101 Project #1: Final Draft

My name is Leonardo Javier Barrales, and no I am not name after the Italian artist. I’m 18 years old, I’m a freshman at City Tech, of Mexican descent. I recently graduated from MLK High School for Law, Advocacy, and Community. The reason I came to this school was because it was the only 4 year college I got accepted to and that I would give this school a chance for now. Another reason why, because I want a fresh start in my life in college, to meet new people, learn more about my major in college. When I’m around people I’m quite the introvert due to me being afraid of how people would react if I say something, plus the feeling that I might not get along with people so long as they get along with me, but if I do get along with people better, the sooner it gets better for me in the future. Also people see me as this person with a very serious face which I get that a lot. Since 8th grade I’ve had realized that I’ve had interest in Graphic Design, after I had a computer art class and I was doing some really interesting types of art on the computer and I would get 90s in my class for doing it. Later on in high school, I would be on my iphone using a drawing app I had drawing random things including symbols, like for example drawing this symbol from the first part of the final Harry Potter movie or drawing this somewhat interesting symbol from my favorite band. During my junior year in high school, I began to take art classes it started at first doing different kinds of art and I some types artistic styles I did enjoy doing. Some for example like 3D art and recreating original paintings in any kind of way. But drawing wasn’t just what I like doing, it was also origami, I mostly like a doing somewhat basic stuff like cranes, hummingbirds but in a basic way, mostly likely to say the easy level of making origami. Then again I realized my artistic style in drawing involves mostly geometry, of both interest and making. My taste in other types interests are very peculiar or either very perplexed due my liking of things that are eccentric. For example, like TV shows, my favorite TV shows are American Horror Story, Game of Thrones, and Gravity Falls. Also in music, my liking in genres are pop, punk, rock, alternative, and hip-hop. My favorite artists are Paramore, Demi Lovato, The Pretty Reckless, Bring Me the Horizon, Sleeping with Sirens, Lana Del Rey and etc.

My avatar is well somewhat interesting and confusing, but it’s actually my favorite symbol, to be honest. The reason how it’s my favorite was because I was listening to this album called Sempiternal by favorite band Bring Me the Horizon and I got very interested in the album artwork a lot. That’s why I have this picture of this flower-like pattern as my avatar on my profile I enjoy viewing art that is geometric and it’s my favorite and somewhat most difficult geometric drawing for me to do. This symbol is known as the flower of life and it’s common meaning involves on spirituality and enlightenment, to which I also take a little bit of interest in, but it’s I want in life to gain peace with others and myself.

English Project #1 introduction: final

Marcus is my name and art is my purpose in life. Since young it was merely impossible to contain my joy for art and that applies to all fields. Childhood days were spent creating folders upon folders filled with drawings, paintings, sketches, outlines, other days were spent teaching myself Photoshop and convincing my mom to pay monthly so I can have a website. No matter what, I have a great appreciation for all things in life no matter how minor or grand; I treasure every single second and every single last thing this life has to offer from eyesight to friends to family to forests to mountains I hold it all dearly to my heart. My aesthetic reaches beyond the comprehension of many because I love putting myself in other people’s shoes. After studying photography in the High School of Art and Design, that’s what I aimed to do, Put myself in the shoes of numerous people, that was obtainable through visual communications. Learning how, what and why placement, color, shape, line, medium, dimension etc. Is going to affect another person is what i strive to learn through comd1111 because that’ll overall help my understanding with people and can build my art to be more audience friendly. Comd1111 English is also a significant part to my growing experience because learning to communicate away from artistic terms and more in an analog way will help communicate when visuals are not present.

My avatar for this site is an image of me sitting on the edge of a waterfront. Because of editing, the photo appears to be silhouette and it doesn’t seem like water but more like grassy land which i love. Me, in comparison to the buildings in the back, look huge which conceptually i like the idea of me taking over the world. This avatar represents me because i am always Misunderstood and a hard person to figure out. Being alone and contemplating life can be my tranquility and here is what i see, peacefulness. Also the fact that i set high goals to conquer everything that comes toward my way can be represented through my large scale versus the landscape’s small scale. Others may think I just like to be alone or am very dark because the image overall is dark and shadowy.

I love to learn and get inspired, it gives me a feeling of productivity. Aside from that i enjoy bike riding, photo-shoots, running, desserts, shopping, traveling and most of all bringing out the best in others whether its through laughter or motivating them to go further, i love to assist people.

Introduction

Hello, my name is Jason Murillo, i am 18 years old. and an incoming freshman at City Tech. I reside at Queens, specifically Woodside. I plan to major in Communication Design to later become a video game designer. I really want to do this because i have always had a passion for video games but mostly the art and visuals aspect of them. I originally started drawing and our scribbling when i was in pre-k, i used to always draw Spider-Man. Nothing but Spidey and how he would swing from building to building. There was a time in which all i would do in class is draw and draw, and i’d usually get in trouble. And because of that i had hit a cold streak in my life that, unfortunately, i stopped drawing all together and began to lost my skills as an artist. But after a few years of that i smoothly went back to my once beloved passion.

My name is Ashley Fernandez, I’m 18 years old and live in Queens. I graduated from High School of Applied Communication which is located in Long Island City. I am now a freshman in City Tech taking Communication Design as a major. I’ve always had an interest in art especially during my school years. I’ve always loved drawing and I would be doing it all the time whether it was in my notebook or on the paint program on the computer. During my years, I really didn’t know what I wanted to major in college or what I wanted to do in life. At that time, I wasn’t really passionate to do a certain thing. But, during my junior year I had to take a graphic design class. I didn’t know what the class was or if I would actually have an interest in it. As I got to learn more about it and go to do some projects, I actually enjoyed it. That’s where my interest in Graphic Design started from. I am passionate about creating and drawing. If I’m creating something, I like to put my own style into that work. When I don’t really have anything to do, I like to draw most of the time. I’m more of a visual drawer. I like to draw the certain object if it’s in front of me. I’m not really sure what my design aesthetic is, but I’m figuring that out slowly as I’m learning more in my major. In five to ten years, I hope to see myself still having an interest in Graphic Design or having a job creating logos or album covers. I describe myself as quiet, shy, and an introvert. I am quiet most of the time and like to have my own little space for myself. I’m the shy type of person who’s not really comfortable to approach or talk to someone first. But once I know the person more, I am comfortable going up to them and talking to them first. I’m not sure what makes me so shy. I think it’s just the way I’ve always been since I was young. I also love to listen to music and it’s what I do most of my time. Some genres that I like to listen to is alternative, pop, Kpop, and sometimes hip-hop/rap. 

My avatar is the album cover and the new logo of one of my favorite band/group; EXO. I chose this avatar because I like the band but I also thought that their latest logo and album cover was creative and simple with color. When you first look at it, it looks confusing. At first you might see a hexagon but then you might also see a cube. But if you look really carefully, you can see the group’s name. I also liked that the album cover was simple with the colors. Using black as the background, it made the logo really stand out. Like the logo, I want to design something that is simple and looks confusing at first. But when you look at it more, you will see the obvious thing. But I also chose this logo because this band also made me like a new genre of music that I use to really dislike. I didn’t like it because I didn’t understand it and I also did not know why people liked that kind of genre. But as I listened more, I actually started to enjoy it. It made me realize that just because you don’t understand the language, that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy it.

My avatar can be misleading to other people. When they look at it, they might be confused on what this image might exactly be. They might only see a hexagon or cube. They might not be able to see the band’s name. This might mislead people to think that I’m confusing, hard to figure out, or just like shapes.

My profile will convey who I am and how I present myself in the work. It will also convey that I am simple and hardworking. It matters because I don’t really express who I am in person. But here, people would be able to see that more.

Project #1 Introduction (Final)

“Tk”, is the abbreviation of her name Tsang, Ka Yee. She born in Hong Kong, which is a part of China. Has the different policy of China, “One Country, Two Systems”, is a prosperous and many kinds of culture city. She graduated from Lower East Side Prep High School around one and half years ago. She moved to NY around 3 years when she finished high school in her county. She still learning the English, because she wanna improve her English as fast as possible, that will be more helpful for her future life. She’s a optimists and quiet person, but when you get to know more about her. You may not think she’s a quiet person, she always non-stop talking and keep to making fun with you. By the way, She’s a typical Gemini girls, because she always capable of displaying different personality traits at different points of time. It doesn’t mean she’s a “melancholy and moody” person. Also, she doesn’t like to be pinned down by anyone or any rules, always need to experience the world on her own. She thinks Change and freedom are extremely important to her, will never let anyone dictate her. Sometimes she will turn off her phone and stay at home, try to give some time for her brain to release. She loves to play the different types of puzzle. Her design aesthetic involves a foundation of geometric, she falls in love of the geometric figure. She focus of the relationship and distance between the lines and points, then will create the perfect proportion of geometric.

The appearance of my avatar is black&white color and I use my hair cover my face then look into the left side. My avatar could be misleading because it not really show my face and using the black&white color then it will hard to understand me. That’s like I wanna hide myself and forbid people to know more about me, because of the action and color might make my avatar more mysterious.

My complete profile will convey who I am and my personality. Even though, I know my avatar not exactly show my personality, and still hide something. By the way,  I believe time will show everything if you wanna know more about me.
