UNIT 3             Worksheet 2          brainstorming your Research Proposal

I feel that it is important to discuss about the lack of American interest for the global sport of soccer. Soccer is the most famous sport in the world, with an estimated fan base of 3.5 billion people. But in the U.S, soccer ranks at 7 as the most favorite sport.

This discussion will bring light to the reason why so many people around the world are so fond of soccer. It will reveal to the everyday American what they are missing and how they should approach the game of soccer to enjoy the true beauty of the game. It would help us to reconnect to the world and have good relationships with other countries. It would teach the people of U.S unity and benefit of teamwork. And I think all of us can agree on the fact the unity is something that this country lacks a lot.

There is a reason that almost half of the population of the world are fans of what they call the “beautiful game”. The simplicity of soccer is one of the main reasons for its popularity. All you need is a soccer ball and you are good to go. You can use sticks or even your back packs to set up the goal posts. Because of this anyone can afford it. But simplicity is not the only reason for its popularity. The games are non-stop 90 minutes of jam-packed of actions, strategies, passion and perseverance. But despite that majority Americans think that the sport is boring. And their patience, or lack thereof is to blame.  The American argument that it is a boring game is false. They think soccer is boring because of the few goals that are scored in a game. But in reality, there are always something that is going on in the field. If you blink you may miss a lightning slide tackle or a thunderstruck shot at goal. Other than the strategical buildup in the midfield, shot saving from the goal keepers, running through the wings are all exciting things in a soccer game. Soccer is like a chess game where the pieces are highly mobile and less restricted to move. Like in chess, there are key players whose general position are in strategic positions from where a fast attack can be launched. Those positions, which are typically in the midfield region are also good for transitioning to defense.

Since soccer is a team game and to play or understand the game you need to have or at least develop of team player mentality. People in the states are ditching the idea of teamwork. They mostly care about themselves and don’t like to help others. If this keeps up, we won’t be able to function as a society. Soccer can teach us to care about one another again through the spirit of teamwork.

Soccer is like the language of the world. since, so many people know and are passionate about soccer, it is the ice breaker, the conversation starter and the friend maker. This is the expression that billions of people, around the globe, use as a medium to connect to one another. We are being left out. We are being isolated from the rest of the world. There are many other things to blame for the slow isolation, but rejecting the ambassador of the world is a very critical one.

UNIT 3 Worksheet 2 brainstorming your Research Proposal
Write a short draft (at barest minimum, 4 paragraphs) in which you present a proposal for research. In this proposal you will state your problem and tell the reader how your inquiry will potentially shed new light on this problem. Whom (what individuals or groups) will your inquiry benefit? How might your inquiry be of benefit to them (socially, economically, etc etc)? Show us how you are bringing some new perspective to an understudied area of this problem.
(To put this another way, this paper is where you tell us, enthusiastically, why you care about your issue, and why we should care as well.)
At the end of your Proposal. create a List of Relevant Sources in proper citation format and a short explanation of why each is helpful/relevant/has bearing on this topic.

We feel that it is important to open up further discussion and analysis of taking precautions while participating in any sports, whether it’s bowling, hiking, or wrestling. These three activities, were our skills we chose to write about during our genre exercises throughout the course. We were given the opportunity to participate in this research exercise as a team. We feel that this is a very fitting opportunity, as our skills were all related to sports, and most sports require participating with team members.

It is important to us, because such discussion would bring the following potential benefits to anyone who is willing to participate in any extraneous activities. Here are some examples for each of our skills:
Bowling:
• Selecting the correct ball
• Using good form while bowling.
• Correct shoes for the alley
Hiking:
• Packing emergency equipment
• Proper disposal of waste
• Good navigation skills
Wrestling:
• Proper safety gear
• Proper form
• Good health condition

This discussion would foster awareness of the importance of being safe, and practicing good habits for anyone who wishes to participate in of these sports. These habits will foster positive experiences for all participants and team members if applied.

This awareness is important because following the proper rules and guidelines will harness safety, not only for themselves, but also for all other participants or perhaps other team members. For example: proper form in bowling can prevent wrist injuries as this is most common occurring injury in this sport, for hiking proper disposal of litter can prevent fire hazards, and in wrestling proper head gears can protect against brain injuries.

MY JOURNEY

What is my journey? A great question in my mind as friend and family have asked me “why go to college now”? I truly believe that with education and mixed with my experience, I would be able to achieve a higher position in my career and also I can feel accomplished with a good education.

My journey so far has been very interesting. In the beginning of my first semester which was August 2018, I didn’t honestly know what to except and how I was going to react being away from school for twenty years. I wondered “would it be like high school”? Perhaps maybe it was like what I seen in movies, a big room with a large blackboard with many chairs lined up around the large blackboard. As I walked into the classroom, I said to myself” this remind me of high school, I have a challenge ahead of me”.

My family and friends have given me support and always have pushed me into completing this “dream” I wanted to do. My mother has been my biggest supporter and fan, she will always say to me “It’s never too late to finish what you started” I see her today and I recognized how accomplished she is as a retired NYPD sergeant. This type of spirit and energy flows within our family and that has given me strength and courage to complete my journey.

The further I went into the semester, the more and more comfortable I became. Yes it does have that high school feeling but this is college and suddenly my hunger to learn started to come out. I felt confident on the work I was doing, for the first time in a long, long time I understood what the professors were instructing the classes I was attending to. At that moment I knew that I was able to continue my journey.

I was able to complete my first semester passing all my classes to achieve twelve credits towards my transcript. Wow! My first twelve credits towards my dream, my goal. This moment had made a buzz within my family and friends, as they too celebrated with me. The funny thing is at that time all I had in my mind was “I am ready for my second semester, let’s bring it”! Now the second semester towards my journey has commenced and with some experience I had from last semester I pretty much had a good sense on how to prepare and organized myself a lot more easily than last semester.

I was excited since this new semester I am taking two of my major classes. My major being Legal Studies, However, I knew this might be a challenge. I quickly dived into my classes and I really like all my classes except philosophy, the subject was interesting but the accent my professor was using was very heavy and I cannot really understand her. I felt really bad and embarrassed and her accent it was very difficult for me to understand so I decided to stop attending her classes. Now I have three classes to focus on which is Intro to Paralegal, Civil Litigation and English.

Morales 3

I didn’t let that minor setback affect me, even though I felt terrible and I was kind of blaming myself because I was thinking it was me that really didn’t pay attention in philosophy class.

So in English when my professor asked us to pick a genre, I was really putting serious though into it and I realized what better genre topic than my life career which I made it mystic calling it “Paralegalism” the art and/or act of being a paralegal. It does have a pretty interesting ring to it and also it helps to explain what a paralegal is and their functionality. In this English class I was actually having fun and I didn’t feel lost or hopeless, this units that where taught actually help me realize that there isn’t anything I can’t write about. It really had my creative juices flowing all the time.

Where would this journey lead me too? I don’t really have an answer but I have a pretty positive feeling about it. I am really enjoying my time at college and meeting so many interesting people and actually sharing common goals. I believe in this motto, life is short and every minute counts, make the most of it!

I  feel that it is important to open up further discussion and analysis of shuttlecock, because it’s a easy and fun sport that everyone can play and get unbelievable benefits. As a traditional folk sports, shuttlecock has exited for more than 2000 years in China. The International Shuttlecock Federation was founded in 1999. World Shuttlecock Championship was held in different countries all around the world in recent years.

Such discussion would bring the following potential benefits. Exercise can be fun, like shuttlecock. Comparing to other sports, shuttlecock can make people healthy, but in a relatively easy way and help people to build body coordination.  That’s why you always could find some seniors playing shuttlecock very well in public parks or squares in China. It’s one of the Chinese traditional culture. More and more Chinese pay attention to get healthy by exercises. If seniors can play shuttlecock, the young people and teenager also can play it too, wherever in a house, studio or schools. Shuttle is a great way to relax from the pressures of the day and connect with friends and family.

This discussion would foster awareness of finding love and caring around you. By kicking shuttlecock, maybe you could make new friends, find different love from your families and get better relationship with people around you. As a competitive sports, shuttlecock also could build your confidence and teamwork cooperations. These are lifetime benefit.

This awareness is important because we care about our families and friends just like how they care about us.

UNIT 3    Worksheet 2

Job interviews can be very stressful, and time consuming for everyone who’s trying to land their dream job, or regular employment. I feel like finding work can be over doing it for interviewees sometimes. The feeling of not knowing whether you aced your interview, or the fact that you got rejected because of a better candidate with a higher standard. We can start changing that in ways that could benefit both sides.

We come here today to bring light on both sides. We all know that interviewees can’t stress it enough when it comes to the result. We can all agree that we just want direct result. Having direct result will save time, and ultimately help the interviewees move on to the next career. Especially in New York City where jobs are very limited. While interviewers are only trying to find the best person that fit the expectation of their company, I think most of the time, smaller companies will have a longer duration of letting a person know if they got the job.

There will be many candidates that will feel like they did good, and are waiting on a acceptance, or some sort of message to acknowledge them that they got the job. This will also lead to a longer, or waste of time for them finding a job again. Having to reject someone on it is not a fun job to do. Therefore it is a waste of time.

I believe that they should make it more specific when jobs are looking for requirements from future candidate, also to let them hold a more comfortable interview so that they know the real them (interviewees). I think that If a company are holding a group interview then they should be let know on that day. Especially towards the youth, they experience this more because most of them don’t have a lot of experience yet, but the ones that do have experience are at an advantage.
