Inquiry/Research on Difficulties that Artists face.

Art is everywhere around us. And if you ask people around “Who is the greatest Artist?” probably, everyone would answer – “Nature.” People from the ancient times were interested in painting and drawing, sculpting and crafting. They were trying to preserve in times their emotions, their memories, and significant events. Since the beginning of times, people wanted to express themselves and did it in dancing, music, fine art, and other genres. Now, people do art as their hobbies, stress relief, as a need to express their feelings, to deal with depression, and to make a profit of it.

People who chose Art as their profession stepped on a challenging path. Most likely, almost everyone’s artist’s parents told them not to do that. It is very easy to explain – parents are afraid that their kids will have many difficulties in finding jobs and making a stable amount of money. Plus, the Art market is a very, very competitive place. To be in high demand, artists always must learn new and grow in their knowledge. The technologies are not staying in one place, and we have to keep the pace. That’s why to be a good and demanded artist people need to educate themselves. Most of the art and design schools are extremely expensive and whoever wants to make art as their profession must keep in mind that bachelor and especially master programs require to be able to pay an enormous amount of money, so first thing people must do is to think really hard – is that what they want to do for their life? How they will be paying for their tuition? Is this profession will “feed” them and pay off their bills and student loans?

While I was researching for this topic, I remembered what kind of obstacles and issues I personally faced in my life and what my artist family members have shared with me. We are our own biggest critics. We, artists, are never happy with our work. We always feel that we could do better and our art is not good enough. Enough for what? – I am always asking myself. Or for who? Self-doubt is the Number-One-Enemy, but we learn how to live with such a “neighbor.” The artists have to learn how to not to let anyone tell that what you are creating is not valid. We spent years of practice and education to shape ourselves, to know the value of our knowledge and to know that our art will be remarkable for the future generations, it will leave a mark in the Art history. The success will be always judged by other people, most of the times who are irrelevant, incompetent in that field.

The other problem is what to do with your art? How to present it? How to sell it? How to find your clients? The artists are having difficulties when they are looking for display space, galleries or collectors. To be able to produce and present art in a marketable way can be way too expensive. The galleries, shipping fees, printing copies, etc. – there are many things that will be trying to take their portion, their piece on your work. Artists need to market themselves. And here everything depends on networking and how good your communicational skills and social media usage are. Inability to find a job in the art field pushes many artists to find other work for income and leave art as a hobby.

The one fear that I personally face every single time I try to do anything, either it is related to drawing, painting, writing, cooking, reading or even traveling is – how to start? And here comes the fear of the white paper. I feel my hands are not mine, they are not obeying me, in my mind I know how to do it, I see it is coming, but when I try to start, when I do the first couple of strokes I feel like someone else is doing it and my mind is screaming: “Nooo! Not like this!” I don’t like what I see and I erase it and try over and over again. Without everyday practice, you lose your skills. The same way with languages – if you don’t use them daily – you forget them. But once started artists have to learn how to stop. In pursuit of the ideal masterpiece, we can lose the great work we have done. It will never be ideal. My Master in fine arts college used to say “Don’t make it ‘soapy’, know when to stop, the Best is the enemy of the Good, your painting has to ‘breathe’, has to be fresh and crispy.” He called this technique “Alla Prima”, wet-on-wet. I think it is good advice for life in general. To know when to stop. Whatever you do – make it fresh, crispy. And remember it will never be ideal.

There will be always challenges on your way to your growth. These challenges will shape you as an artist, as a person. You will not face them just once and never meet again. You will be going through them over and over again if you really want to grow and to conquer new heights. And the last but not least advice – grow a very thick shell instead of your skin, it will protect your inner You and your priceless inner Art against rejections, and never give up, keep walking!

UNIT 3            Worksheet 2

I feel that is important to talk about an issue facing students and recent graduate students, which is getting hired in a top-notch company like Lockheed-Martin. This type of companies is hard to get into it even for internship position. Most of the companies prefer to hire a candidate that has long period of training and have done many projects, or through referral, that’s mean the candidates (students) should have good networking or previous training to have a chance to get hired, which is hard for them.

Such discussion would bring many benefits for both sides the candidates and the company. The candidates will know the fact of the hiring process or based on what factors the companies pick their candidates and then they prepare themselves for that fact. While the benefit that the company may gain from such discussion that the hire managers should aware about the problem that faces student and recent graduate, also to put in their consideration that the students having a lack in having networking and also having a lack to have long period training. The hire managers should have another option to consider the candidates.

The companies (the hire managers) should have another option such assign an evaluation project or unpaid training. Choosing the wrong candidate will cost the company a lot, bad reputation and the salary that paid to the wrong candidate. To avoid this problem the company can offer unpaid training then after that evaluate the candidate then choose the right one. I believe this idea will help both sides the candidate and the company. The candidates will have fair and wide opportunities to have the job opportunity. While the companies will choose the right candidate without losing money or reputation

Some of the website that help me to recognize some problems like zipjob website, it shows me how the network is effective in the hiring. Also indeed website help me a lot gathering idea through the comments that the readers post about how hard to get hired.

Soccer Benefits vs Disadvantages

Before creating my research, I felt that it’s important to open up further discussion and analysis of soccer world. Some people they do not know about soccer in terms of its advantages and disadvantages. I felt that it will be helpful to know why this kind of sport is the most popular in world.

I started to discuss about the benefits of soccer and classified them to three majors benefits. Those three majors benefits are, health and wealth benefits, soccer benefits to the audience and benefits of soccer to society. By mentioning those benefits, it will help those people who have a lack of knowledge about soccer, to know why so many people in different countries have this sport and even consider as a part of their culture.

Subsequently I discussed about the disadvantages of soccer. Those disadvantages were about players, audience and society. Just like the advantages of soccer it is important to know about its disadvantages. By knowing that, it will clarify the reasons about why so many people do not interest in soccer.

Due to the importance of this of this sport ( soccer ), I liked to discussed and clarified it to others who do not know soccer. I also wanted to grab their attention to this sport or even enjoy watching or playing it.

In this research paper I used several sources to support my knowledge and my discussion. They were helpful for this discussion because in each one them, there is a lot of information and studies that determined either the benefits or the negatives of soccer.

Why Is Art Undermine?

Wilfny Pelissier       Eng 1121

Why Is Art Undermine?

“Art is a diverse range of human activities in creating visual, auditory or performing artifacts, expressing the author’s imaginative, conceptual ideas, or technical skill, intended to be appreciated for their beauty or emotional power” stated on en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Art. So our best bet is to see that art around us all the time. But some of us yet has come to realize this in the first place or aware of this is even possible. Whenever people see that this is true people will be able to appreciate art more. Art inspires us all in every aspect of our lives our food, the homes that we live in, and clothes that we wear. The real question is that do we neglect so much in our society.

There is a lot of mixed opinions about having a career in the art industry. The website www.quora.com/Why-is-arts-looked-down-upon is where people share their opinions why people may look down upon artist or people in the art industry. Chris Davis PhD, Learning Consultant/Coach says “ It is a question of values. The primary value of our time is economic benefit. Studying the arts is not perceived as a practical pursuit that translates into the economic benefits of studying engineering, business, or healthcare. As a question of values, there is no objective reason for arts should be looked down upon. What he is saying isn’t fully true but is not a lie. Art is especially important in history to tell and represent important moment in history. John Palmer, Retired Art Advisor, Fiduciary for the Artist and Collector defends artists and states Historical most artists do not make a great living. They require a social net for support. This is seen as mooching off of others and in most cultures it is looked down upon as being lazy. You will note that in society an Illustrator has a higher ranking than a Fine Artist, but in the “Art world” generally an Illustrator ranks lower. This makes me wonder what are the most paid artists 1. Art Director… 2. Art Agent/Business Manager. … 3. Art Professor. … 4.Commercial Artist. … 5. Animator. … 6. Interior Designer. … 7. Graphic Designer. … 8. Art Gallery Dealer. … 9. Advertising Designer. … 10. Freelance Writer, gathered from www.bestcollegesonline.org/highest-paying-jobs/arts-majors/. C. Johnson, Atari, SLAC, LSI, uP, DSL points out very important  topics that is are very relevant and he states that “My sense is that it tells us more about the person who has this judgement. They value work more than life…. Let me go further, an individual who states that art is irrelevant? Typically, when I hear such an opinion, it comes from a person with four views. View of themselves:: virtuous and superior. View of the world: competitive, troubled, needs their opinion to set things straight. View of others: irrelevant, inferior. View of what they feel: impatient, indifferent to opinions different than theirs. Art is a subjective media and it speaks to our feelings and emotions in terms of how we connect ourselves to what it means to have a life. Work is a means by which we may pursue our lifestyle, for some it is their purpose, but not for all.”

Gathering this information shine the light on the humanities values of society. We acknowledge the outcome of whatever product but not the idea that enables product, our imagination and creativity. The after is better than the before in this case. Our building block is imagination, creativity, and curiosity without this we wouldn’t be human we be something else. It is the matter a fact that we build up on these things made us more educated and advanced than our ancestors. This follows the notion that everyone is an artist but still people believe that they aren’t because they are disabling themselves of what they are fully capable of due to the assumption that it isn’t that important when on the contrary it is.
