From reading the page of a book, and thinking differently. Making the page to a differently story than the original book. Xingfu recreate the pages in the image of Line and Rhythm by using Pigma Micron 05 and PITT artist Big brush. The first image is representing a great position, where he drew Lines and solid bridges to support the center. The idea was come from the text, where he found the words “great position”. The second image is representing Live and Death, he drew circles and line tap which half was filled in with black ink and leave the other half blank. The idea was also came from the text where he saw the words “dead”, “live” and “spirit”. Xingfu said this is trying to express that live and death is just between one line, the line tap was draw twist to show Rhythm. Circles are represent the spirit.

Project #3: the pitch

People always say time is money, especially those who live in a big city. They always thinking of go to their destination as fast as possible. And usually those routes are very noisy, with all those honking sound from cars. Sometime, there could be many beautiful and quiet scenery on the way to your destination or take another path, that could make the route totally different than the original route. With the app I’m working on (New Life Routing) could make this happen easy and simple. Compare to all other routing app, most of them make the route fast and short enough to get to users destination, however what my app does is, to make the route a little longer, so the user can see many beautiful scenery, and feel quiet and peace, while on the way to their destination.

Taking a route to the destination directly and do what ever users have to do, or spend few more minutes on the way, walk through quiet road and see some beautiful scenery. Think about it, if that day you were in a bad mood, however, you took this extra few minutes detour, and it made your day. Don’t you think that’s a lot more worth? If you go to certain place very often, don’t you think its boring? With this app, you can make your every day walk interesting.

This detour at citytech Namm Hall and our destination is Brooklyn Hieghts Promenate. When walk out of the building, turn left walk to the end of the block then turn right, walk to Cadman plaza, you can see Cadman Plaza Park. There is a big field in the center of the park surround with woods, some people play sport in the field, and some just lay down on the grass reading book. Now turn right walk toward to Johnson Street, there is another park named Columbus park, if you were lucky, you can see pigeons surround those people sit on the bench, waiting for food. Across Cadman Plaza W, walk into Pierrepont street, and keep walking to Monroe Place, you can see a church is at that corner, its appearance is very old. For some people looking at some old building make them feel really peaceful. Keep walking to Henry Street turn left and walk two blocks to Remsen street, then turn right. On this street, its really quiet, not much car drive by, even if they did, they didn’t make much sound, because of the road is very small, they drive very slow. As you keep walking to the end of the road, its a dead end. Here, you can see the whole skyline of Manhattan, and here is most quiet and peaceful place in this detour.

This was a detour was one example from our beta user’s experience. When using the app, user can choose how long do user want to walk, the app will calculate the best and closest route time that match to user’s requirement. The app often provide special option when user go to certain place in a certain time, such as the app will note user there are restaurant nearby when its time to eat lunch, desert or dinner. The app also calculate the time you will took in this detour, or time how long have you walk in this detour. The app also has history record, it will save every route users took, of course user can also delete the history. It also has suggest caption, such as the best to go this certain location can have the best experience, it will show at the lower right side of the screen. User can control the app with sound, just like siri or google.

When people trying to find routing apps, most of them are provide the fastest and shortest route for user to get to their destination. Now I have made this app New Life Routing which not only make the route acceptable short but also make users’ detour more interesting and enjoyable. Such a incredible app, why not give a try, and don’t forget share it with your friends.

Project 3: Value Added Portraits: Phase 4

In this project, I experienced painting and Photoshop. Before I started this project, I thought I the painting part would most interest me, but after i did the paint, I realize that painting is most challenge part of the project. The most part I enjoyed in is making the 3D image, even though I can’t really see the 3D effect, but I still enjoy of making it, it make me feel I’m professional.

Project #3: the route

Taking a route to walk around in city, people might see many beautiful buildings, quiet road, and the nature. These scenes could help people feel relax, or even make their day. However, now days construction side are allover in the city, its very hard to find those places close to each other, or make them connect with shorter route. People who live in big cities need to go to this places to release their pressure. With this app, you can easily discover many different route that guide you walking through the city to see those beautiful scenes, and feel the city’s quiet side.

Here are five places we are going to see in our detour today, they are Cadman plaza park, Columbus park, First Unitarian Congregational Society, Pierrepont street, and Brooklyn Heights promenade at the dead end of Remsen street. These five places are all around the Brooklyn Heights, they are very beautiful and quiet. While taking the walk, people can see many special buildings, the buildings themselves are very old, but they really stand out in that area with its different appearance color and style. The roads are small and quiet, even though there are still cars drive by, but they don’t make much noise, becasue of the small road they drive very slow.

The starting place is CityTech the whole walk will take about 30 minutes.

Turn left walk out from CityTech to Tillary street. Then turn left again to cadman plaza. (Cadman plaza park)

Turn left walk across the block .(Columbus park)

Across Cadman plaza W follow Pierrepont street walk to hanry street (First Unitarian Congregational Society)

English Project #2: Final

New York city has lots of landmarks, many of them are really famous. The U.S. Post Office on Adams street in Brooklyn is a historical main post office and Federal office building. The building its self appears particularly special in the area because of its Romanesque Revival style design.

The Post Office is just one block away from City Tech, Namm Hall. I didn’t notice it, until I took my sixteen minus of walk. To get to the U.S. Post Office with my path, first you need to walk left after get out of Namm hall, at the first block on your right hand side across the street, you can see a park, its a lively playground, many people who is local play sport, handout with friends and relaxing here. As you keep walking, at the same block on your left hand side, there is another building of City Tech. In front of that building cross the street, there is a church which is right next to the park. Keep walking about 5 minus, you can see the third building of City Tech. On the right hand side, you can see a little garden where you can take a break. Keep walking straight down to the next block until reach to the road turn right and look up, you can see a bridge that connects two building, that is for people who in the building could directly walk to other building on the other side of the street . Walking straight to the next block, you can see a parking lot and also, you can see the Brooklyn bridge is not far away from here. Now turn right so you are on the direction towards to the Post Office. This is Adams Street, as you can see on this block its all apartments, until you reach to the end of the block, you can see a restaurant called. Celeste Cafe & Grill. Now look diagonally across the street. There is the U.S. Post Office.

This U.S. Post Office is just one street away, behind the Namm Hall building. The building took over the whole block. The post office is not the only work site of the building, US Passport Agency, US Attorney’s Office, and US District Bankruptcy Court are also in there. The architecture feels like 19th centuries, because of its appearance. The whole building appears in white, it contains many features of the Romanesque Revival style. The building has seven stories tall.

I took this photo at a small park which is at the junction between Johnson St. and Cadman Plaza. In the photo, you can see the square corner tower rise above the roof line. Each level was distinguished with different belt courses around the building. You can also see an American flag is on the left side of the photo. In order to capture angle in the photo of the building, you must stand on the right hand side of the statue in the park I was talking about earlier.

I choose U.S. Post Office as the location because when I first arrive to that location, it attracts me with its bright white appearance, and the juxtaposition of the post office and the nearby building. The architecture feels like it was built in past few centuries , because of the special design of the building. What I thought about of the building is it must has some stories or it may be a very important building back in time, for some reason the origin purpose of the building is gone, however people don’t want take down the building and make a new architecture. They probably think this building is part of the history, its priceless, so they make the building to a post office. From what I learned about this building is this building was build for both a post office and courthouse, designed the building in the Romanesque Revival style of architecture in 1885. Its original purpose was build for post office, and courthouse. In 1999 the U.S. General Services Administration purchased the building and began the renovations included the new courtrooms and the restoration of historic courtrooms, original windows and numerous site features. Then the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, the U.S. Trustee, and the Offices of the U.S. Attorney added in to the building.

From the article “City Limits” by Colson Whitehead, it states that “Go back to your old haunts in your old neighborhoods and what do you find: they remain and have disappeared.” Even though, we didn’t have the opportunity to see the changes of the post office, however the history would like to tell us about what part of the building have change. The building was built in 1885, after the almost fifty years later, in 1930, as the population continued to grow, officials determined more space of the building was needed, the addition extended to the north. The article also mentioned “Our old buildings still stand because we saw them, moved in and out of their long shadows, were lucky enough to know them for a time.” the statement have shown that it was luck enough that people can still see those old buildings as they walking through their long and short shadows.

The U.S. Post office on  Adams street in Brooklyn is a very historical architecture, it’s also a very important building in New York. This is an example of juxtaposition in New York, buildings overlapping each other, make the city more diverse with different scene. Also to remind people that world changes so unpredictable, when they realize something was changed, its probably has changed months ago, because people became so careless about the stuffs they seem everyday in their life. So we should pay more attention to the stuffs surround us, before they change their original form.
