How do we organize Project #3?

introductory paragraph with the thesis statement–that claim or argument you’re making. Start with your topic and narrow down to the juxtaposition and what you want to say about it. [this might not be the first paragraph you write!]

Berko’s main idea, which is the proposal of the researchers working on building the app: “Small interventions in your everyday routine can generate a more comprehensive urban experience.” This comes at the end of her article, but our claims will be presented initially in the introduction. In the conclusion, we’ll be able to answer “so what” about our claim–why does it matter, or to whom, or what’s interesting about it, etc.

Do you use I or not? first-person vs third-person response

comparisons: block format or point-by-point

in point-by point, you highlight different points of comparison and address them individually for each element in the comparison. Sometimes you need to do some of each.

What are different aspects of the juxtaposition? aim to have perhaps 3-5 points of comparison

juxtaposition of buildings

juxtaposing residential and commercial: building height; materials (and the effects of those materials), architectural and decorative style

What are the 3-5 elements you will use to compare the two parts of your juxtaposition?

how can you find these 3-5 elements? Brainstorm! Write down everything you see–be detailed–and start to see the points of intersection.

Nebulous

adjective

“indistinct, vague” – Merriam-Webster dictionary

The word was encountered in “What If You Could Choose Between the Fastest Route and the Most Beautiful?” Lex Berko

The sentence that this was encountered in was “But how do you quantify concepts as nebulous as beauty or happiness?”

The author uses this word to say that trying to take the “pleasurable detours” or the best route to pursue happiness and beauty is vague. But then they go on explaining how “we found that if you ask a large enough number of people to pick between two pictures [and choose] which one is more beautiful or which one makes them happier, consensus usually emerges”. The author uses this word to trying to convey the idea that trying to find the best detour to take is vague, because it can be the path not too far off from your destination so you can get there on time, or even the path you prefer more than another because its quiet, has more greenery, or just makes you happy in general.

Myopic

adjective

: lacking in foresight or discernment : narrow in perspective and without concern for broader implications ” Merriam-Webster Dictionary

The word was encountered in “What If You Could Choose Between the Fastest Route and the Most Beautiful?” Lex Berko

The sentence it was used in was “Your commute to work and your walk to the shop don’t have to be so myopic and destination-driven. If you give yourself an extra 10 minutes for a small detour on your journey, it can transform your experience of the city into something altogether more enjoyable”

This word was utilized to try to say that our travels don’t have to be so narrow. It doesn’t have to be from point A to point B and that we should be open to new routes so that you can see new things and experience it. The author says that the longest route is normally the prettiest and that’s probably because you take more detours to look at things you don’t normally see. You’ll see greenery and such at a much quieter neighborhood probably far from the path you normally take which for example, shortcuts could possibly be cutting through commercial and busy areas. It’s up to the person walking to choose between the best route to them whether it be quiet, shortest, beauty or happy.

Field Trip to New Lab

In October 22, 2018, is a field trip to New Lab in 19 Morris Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11205. New Lab is a Old Big remodel facility located on the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Back in the 1900s during WWI & WWII, this area used to be a factory yard where they build Navy ships to send them to war. Today, this place called New Lab is a facility where all engineering companies join together and produces some advance technology such as A.I, 3D Printing, virtual reality and more. First, they represent a piece of item made from 3D printing that is supposed to be the part of the rocket’s nozzle and showed us a video of testing the item. Then, they introduced the 3D printing which is very big to produce anything lesser than its sizes and showed us some nice items created by the 3D printing. I’ve never seen how a 3D printing actually works until to this day and I was quite amazed when they also introduced one of the produces that they call eco-friendly and it does have some great advantages of benefiting the ecosystem.

Sound Visualization Mashup: Phase 4

Over the last few days, this project was actually one of the most toughest challenges I’ve ever done and I’m actually very glad for putting my effort in this project. I had quite fun, I’ve learned a lot, but not just the animation process but also get to experience the power of photoshop and how’s it like to stay up late up to 8:00 pm to proceed my project. At first, when we all started the animation process, I was very confused and did not know anything about photoshop nor the process of animation. The good side is that I am a fast learner and I had something special in mind before we started and I had it all planned. However, I was expecting some complicated things during my project which is trying to sync all the figure with the music, time consuming, and finding out the piano melody from a suggestion of a partner. I feel so relief and accomplished for my successful project, everything turned out great and good to go. Although, they say that this is just basic animation work and I assuming this is a level for amateurs but I wanted to take a big step forward, break the borderline with my imagination. The more creative I want my animation to be the more complicated the work will be and I accepted it as a challenge. What  I could’ve done better is to make the design better for the animation and I could used one of my short mix song saved on my phone so I could actually work on two songs.

Urban Artifacts: Phase 4 Deliver

I thought this project was overall fine, i wish i could have used lines and color, but maybe for i future project i might be able to. This project helped me learn that there are many little details in our environment that we often overlook, but it’s good to stop, and appropriate it once in a while.

I think for this project i could have benefited from working more slowly,  like having more time to design the pictures and really working on it, and moving a bit slower when doing my designs in ink.

For our next project i want to focus more on the design element, and give myself more time with the concept so that i can make it more appealing to look at.  Phase 3       Phase 2      Phase 1

Paragraphs:

When I listened to my first song “20 mins” by lil the artist of lil uzi vert I was intrigued because of the beat. The beat was very jumpy and consistent in my opinion. In terms of patterns I thought the patterns was repetitive. Also I feel as if the shape was circle-like in a hypnotizing type beat. These observations kind of makes me drawn to the music in a way.

Now for my second song, I though the beat was more relaxed in a way. I thought that the the beat was more smooth in the way that makes people want to listen to it. In terms of the pattern the beat was very consistent and unexacting at the same time. In terms of shape I felt as if the beat more of a triangle shape type beat. These observations actually made me more in tune with the song.

Hours:

I spent about 15-20 mins drawing the sound of the music.

My Animation Link

So this link on the top is a minimum of 10 seconds animation that I’ve been working on for the last few days or so and with the element that I especially created for this song, it all turn out great. Before when I started doing the animations, Professor Spevack introduced us some short animation clips of students work from last year and honestly I don’t know why I’m impressed so I though in mind that instead of using the previous figure that I did in phase 2, I can actually redesign the image that for every image will represent all parts of the instrument playing and my challenge was to take these images and try to sync them in the music so the figure can get the feel of the rhythm.

It had taken me more than 2-3  days (around 5 hrs per day) to actually get all the parts set up and sync however with another 1-2 days, when I thought that I’ve finally finish my project, the moment I render the video and click the play button, all parts of the image were slightly un-sync and I had to check it again to see what was the problem. The good side is that all the transformation of every image follows up the rhythm of the song and I only had to move the transformation one sec before or more, add some transformation parts for some images and it took me two tries to get it right.  And finally I’ve completed my project and I was so relief. Unfortunately, this video only plays one song and according to the project, I had to mix two songs and I decided to ignore that part because I’ve made it this far and it would be very stressful for me to go through the whole process again. The name of this song is “Ninelie” by Aimer feat. Chelly, and the genre is J-pop (Japanese pop). It has this very relaxing and smooth rhythm with the amazing breathy vocals.
