Urban Artifacts: Phase 4

This project helped greatly in my understanding of ambiguous and obvious work. Coming into this project, I didn’t know what ambiguous meant and now that I’ve finished this project, I can say this it was very great in helping my knowledge of it.  During phase one, I was still a bit confused about these terms. Going into phase two, I was able to experiment with Photoshop and further my knowledge of the project. I also learned by experimenting how I could work with positive and negative space to create the image I’m aiming for in a ambiguous or obvious composition.  The class discussion also helped greatly because I could see through the minds of others when looking at each other’s work. Overall I would say I have a lot of understanding of ambiguous and obvious figures than when I first started this project.

Urban Artifacts: Phase 4

This project helped me learn how to use Photoshop, a program I’ve been wanting to use for a while, and in turn showed me what we can create with just a few images taken from the outside world. The only thing I regret is not framing my second ambiguous photo properly on Bristol paper, making it looked unfinished or not drawn properly to submit.  But I look forward to learning more about figure-ground relationships in other types of graphic design, as well as the thoughts of my other designs from my peers.

Urban Artifacts: Phase 3

For this part of the project, I had to choose 2 different images that I did on Photoshop that best shows the figure ground relationship from and ambiguous image and an obvious image. Tracing the photos was the hardest part for me, since I couldn’t get a good light to shine on the Bristol paper. Inking the photos on the paper took a while, especially the second photo, but it wasn’t too difficult.

Urban Artifacts: Phase 3

This phase of the project required a lot more work in my opinion because you had to be precise with the tracing and inking, which took very long for me. Comparing this phase and the last phase, I would say both helped me further my understanding of ambiguous and stable work since I spent hours inking and seeing how the objects were composed. On the other hand, filling it in with ink was very different than from working on photoshop. In photoshop I was able to work quicker but now that I had to spend time inking it, I was able to study more of it.

Work time: 2 hours

Urban Artifact Phase 4: Deliver

This project has showed me new things and different ways to look at something. I learned how something so simple like trash on the floor can turn into art.  I also learned how to do ambiguous and obvious picture which I didn’t even know what they were before. Thanks to the critics on my project as well I learned that I should be more unpredictable and get out of my comfort zone to what I know. I feel like I did the project just to fill in the requirement and didn’t put much creativity to what I should have done. That is one thing I would change on the next project and be more unpredictable. Overall I think the critics helped me think of what I should do next time on a similar project. I enjoyed this project overall and think it is a good eye opener for the first class. My other assignments were  Urban Artifact Phase: 3 ,  Urban Artifact Phase: 2 , Urban Artifacts: Phase 1

Urban Artifacts: Phase 4

This project told to me differentiate the difference between obvious and ambiguous figure-ground compositions. I also learned that the two figure-ground compositions can really affect the implication of the design, they have completely different means of expression.  During the phase 2 of the project, I didn’t quite fully understand the obvious figure-ground compositions, and it resulted me created six ambiguous figure-ground compositions, but a light bulb popped up in my head after seeing other colleagues’ work, now I feel confident with it and also if the future project contents works about obvious figure-ground compositions, I’ll say I am very confident about that.

Urban Artifacts : Phase 3

This phase of the project required lot of focus and attention, because its very different from previous phase. Hand traced is not perfect compare to the digital, thus, I’ll say its little difficult. Overall, I’ve spent about 2 hours on this.

For this part of the project, it required a  lot of focus and craftsmanship.  This phase  was very tedious and it was very focused on how well you were able to complete the task while being very cautious about the details. This phase relates to the previous one before because, the second phase required focus and your imagination, while being very cautious with your details.

Overall, I spent an hour completing this phase.
