Reminder: Homework posts due 10/22

Last week for homework you contemplated whether you wanted to research before your Project #3 walk or allow your exploration to be more spontaneous.

For Tuesday (10/22):

  • Choose the location of your overlap.
  • Pinpoint your location on a map (let’s try using this map)
  • In a post on our OpenLab Ways of Seeing site (Category=ENG1101 Project #3, Tag=discover, juxtposition, and anything else you want), include your photograph, and write your process for walking there so someone else can get there, too. This should be more detailed than Google Maps directions would be by including descriptions of landmarks to help

BHS Field Trip Reflection

This was one of the advertisement that stood out to me because of what we see in the present. However, this goes way back in the 1980s as to where there was a lot of risking rates of drug use and it prompted the war on drugs. Looking at it now, it makes me think that this is supposed to be a good sign as to where they’re trying to partner up with the youngsters into reducing the use of drugs at a young age. They want to make a change for all the lives of the new generation to … Read More...

BHS Field Trip Reflection

This specific exhibition was composed of a wide variety of artwork/collages of works put together to illustrate and tell a story. (From what I can remember), when listening to the story behind this picture, it was a Muslim man talking about what Muslims in the past generations have done as precedents for their children but also other Muslims as well. They hope that their children will continue forwards with what they have done, and if not at least they know that they tried.… Read More...

Collage from gallery

In this collage, you see the contrast from the white text on a black background which gives it more depth. The exhibition tells the lives and work of Muslims in Brooklyn and the other many ethnicities, cultures, and nationalities. Kameelah Janan Rasheed wants us to engage with all of the Muslim experiences in Brooklyn. Through this college, it shows you normal English and Muslim text and spread out to convey a message. Read More...

Newton “The Black Panther Party emphasized black pride and self protection against racism that permeated the American law the medical profession-the practices of which Panthers feared it would lead to the genocide of black people. This is a very interesting topic for me and id like to go more into depth with this topic not only was it history but some of these problems are still occurring nowadays such as racism . In the image above you can … Read More...

Pattern Mashups

Discover: The song that I chose was Circles, by Post Malone. When I first heard this song, it gave me a nostalgic vibe and the beat was repetitive and makes my feels go in circles. It had a sense of never ending loop and wavy flow to the music.

Develop: I used some real life objects to try and create some shapes that reflects the song’s vibe and wave-like patterns.

Define: In my final piece, I settled with one big Droste effect pattern where the shape seems to never end and keeps going. I then … Read More...

BHS Field Trip Reflection

This advertisement inspired me because it has something to do with smoking. The poster says, “別讓你寶貴的生命在煙霧中消逝” which means don’t let your precious life fade away in the smoke. This poster did stand up to me since my dad used to smoke and my grandpa on the other, he still smokes which is heartbreaking. I found this poster somewhat surprising because it is the only thing in Chinese. Nothing else in the field trip has words in Chinese except this one in particular unexpectedly. After seeing this advertisement poster I feel like my grandpa needs to call the number on the … Read More...

My hand portrait

Dark valueLight valueBroad value

The different values set a tone played along with the way my hands are positioned. For the dark narrow one , it looks very dramatic because of how dark the shadows are surrounding the image and and some parts of my hand . Secondly the broad one has more of a neutral feel by the shadows dont overconsume my hand and my hand is straight out, lastly the light narrow one  seems very calm because of how light it is setting that simple tone off.… Read More...
