Midterm Grade

One of the things I learned the most is to pay attention to things a lot more. To visualize things that you can’t see and to basically just imagine whats bot there. For the first project Urban Artifacts, I think we were all confused at first, but then as the professor explained more in depth we got the hang of it. It was a bit tedious once we got to photoshop because we had to copy and paste the same exact shapes on the page. If I were to do this projectile over again I would have spent more time on phase one which was discover so that I could have more shapes and objects to choose from that could probably have resulted in a better composition. Nevertheless, I still love my compositions. ♡

Urban Artifacts

At first this project seemed very  difficult because we had to listen to songs and visualize something that we can’t see such as sound waves. However, I think the best way to do it is to just imagine how the sound waves would sound and that makes it a lot easier. Making the grid was a little hectic because we need to visualize where we would place the patterns that will be arranged in a way that makes a path to the focal point. However, if you did thumbnails it would be easier because you have an idea of the placement. The last step was to animate,  I must say it was vexing to be fitting and pasting the different pattern squares to different layers but after that everything was smooth. I really like this project because it teaches you things that on your own you wouldn’t thought about like the shapes of sounds. If I were to do this project all over again I would have spent more time animating I do feel like I rushed the animation part. I do also like the final product but I could have done better.

Visual-Added Portrait

My first picture is of small paper boat hanged to a clothes hanger which is also hanged to the ceiling of the classroom. This is my high key since most of the picture is predominantly light. The placement of the light creates a mood of relaxation since it’s very bright. When the paper boats are facing the opposite direction of the light source you can see shadows where the paper has been folded to create the boat shape. The expresiones quality is calmness it almost seems as if time stopped and the paper figures are not rotating from the movement of air in the room, they just seem stuck in time just like the human-statues in Pompeii.

My second picture is of just a classroom with a desk and the computers. This is my low key picture since it’s predominantly dark. This picture creates a feeling of mystery and anxiousness to the audience since it’s very dark and not much is showing. It creates questions to the viere suck as “what’s on the other side of the room?” It also creates confusion since the audience might not know what to look at.

Sound visualization: Phase 4

at first this project seemed very  difficult because we had to listen to songs and visualize something that we can’t see such as sound waves. However, I think the best way to do it is to just imagine how the sound waves would sound and that makes it a lot easier. Then we moved to drawing which was an easy task once we knew how to imagine the sounds. Making the grid was a little hectic because we need to visualize where we would place the patterns that will be arranged in a way that makes a path to the focal point. However, if you did thumbnails it would be easier because you have an idea of the placement. The last step was to animate, now that part was a little hard for me since I missed the day that this was taught. However, as I started playing with all the tools and the menu bars I fond out how to do them, I must say it was vexing to be fitting and pasting the different pattern squares to different layers but after that everything was smooth. I really like this project because it teaches you things that on your own you wouldn’t thought about like the shapes of sounds.

Sound Visualizations:Phase3

I must say this project was super confusing and hard; i diffidently had to stay calmed and relax because moving each individual pieces and then adding many keyframes to have the effects that I wanted; was quite annoying. However, it had to be done. Then after a few minutes I got used to it and found it easy to keep on working on this project. If I could change anything on my project I think I would have spent more time working on it and i could have created a better animation.

Time spent on this project: 2 hrs

Animated Mashup

Sound Visualizations: Phase 1

The begining of the song Broken Record by Krewella, starts with a soft voice that slowly turns into an echo. Then the sound  begins to increase as the vocalist starts to sing. The sound of the song is very electronic but if you listen to the lyrics, the song is a little sad which makes the song interesting to listen to. Then after the chorus you hear the beat increase and turns into a five to six second electronic sound. As I did some reasearch on electronic music while listening to the song, I came to the conclusion that the sounds were produced by the combination of the following instruments : synthesizers,  drum machines and samplers. This instrumenst produce the amazing EDM (electro dance music) we hear and can create thousands of different sounds.

As I listen to the song I imagine a heart beat machine. At first since the song is soft, i see in my head a line barely moving at a slope. Then as the songs beat scalates, the line also scalated to the point where it detaches and it’s not just one line but many lines just flying across my head and eventually the black line that I started to see changed to thousands of lines that changed to thousands of colors like blue and red and all the shades that blue and red come in. It turns into a chaos. Then as the bridge pops up all those lines start to join together into one black line and slowly detaches and the cycle continues until the last verse and then all I see is the black line slowly becoing thin to the point where it desapears.

Urban Artifacts: Phase 4

At first I must say i was a bit annoyed and confused about this project. We were basically taking pictures of garbage and stuff.  Now I know that it’s because, I didn’t understand a thing and the concept of ambigus and obvious just gave me a headache. However as I started listening and paying more attention to the lesson i got it. And I started enjoying this project when we were making the six compositions because you got to be creative and make basically anything because therw are so many things that a person can see from a single picture. If I had to change something would be add more to my obvious pictures because, I do feel like they are just to simple. I wanted them to be minimal but minimal isn’t always good. I would add more to the pictures or change the position of my obvious objects.

Urban Artifacts: Phase 3

In phase three of this project we had to illiterate our image compositions that we created on phase 2. These two phases relate in that we have to reposition our images based on the critique received on our photoshopped images. For example, if an image that we created  as ambiguous was in fact more obvious; we would need to extend the objects more to the edges and create an unstable relationship.  Overall I spent about and hour and a half on making the final pieces of phase 3.

Urban Artifacts: Phase 2

Overall hours on this project probably three hours.
