Pattern Mashup

  1. Discover

The song that I chose was “Fastlove” by George Michael. I’ve never visualized sounds before, so I thought this was a fun challenge for me to do. Since this is a disco song, there are no straight lines, just wavy lines and circles.

Define

These are my refined sketches. For the final project I chose 2 patterns, and added some adjustments.

Deliver

This is my final product. I slightly surprised myself with this one because it is not something I normally do. To make this project look a little better, I think I should have added more weight line so everything could be more visible form afar.

Discover- The song that i chose was “Electric Love ” by BORNS . I found it very challenging having to draw what i listened to. But these were some of my thumbnails . I had several that i really liked .

Develop

once I was able to choose 6 of my sketches I was able to start developing and start to think how I was going to layout the final .

Define – I ended up choosing 3 of the sketches and decided to add different sizes and layout of the design . This part was probably the hardest . figuring out how i wanted it to look without making it look like too much was going on .

overall I believe I could have improved on my final. I would’ve taken some of the critique advice from classmates .

In my opinion this project was kind of hard. I say that because when I listen to music I don’t really visualize anything so then to listen to my favorite song and try to draw something that goes along with it was difficult. The song that I picked was Mo Money Mo Problems by Biggie Smalls, Diddy, and Mase featuring Kelly Price.

These are my 6 designs that I chose to do my mashup on. However, I only chose 2 to use in my final and 2 textures.

My final was piece was made up of different forms of lines. The pieces in the top right corner and bottom left corner represents the slower background singing in the beginning of the song and the end while everything else represents the beats and the rapping throughout the song.

These are the final designs I chose for my mash up , but at the end I had to go with only 3.”On the road” by Post Malone. It was a mix of swirling lines and static ones expressing the the tune. I also made pencil rubbings of some textures that were in my household that gave a resemblance to the song.song

              Develop
My final product , was three designs swirling and staticky combined with some wavy ones.this expressed for me the melody of the song and some beats that would go smooth and then drop quickly at times, at the end having that pattern. This project taught me that sound can be translated onto paper.

These are my first designs that I started off with when I was listening to the song señorita by shawn mendes and camilla. There was more like swirl lines instead of having some geometric shapes. The music to me was more like flowing in a way, which I thought it didn’t have high notes nor low notes to change my created designs.

Define

These here are my chosen 6 designs that I used to do my mashup. However, I only chose like 3 which are the ones on the bottom.

Develop

This is where I came up with my final sketch in Bristol. I really liked how it came out since it was what I expected of it looking and I did a very good job of giving some space to see the details even the smallest ones.

Some things that I have learned about this project is that when you create patterns by listening to music, the sketches can run freely and they can all be different or similar. Doing this project was very fun and a new experience for me. However, not really sure of what will become of the next project.

This is where everything started, i sketched every pattern that i heard in my song which is, Drake ft Bad Bunny- MIA, this may not be 24 but these were the patterns i liked the most.

Define

I chose my two best designs and sketched it. A lot of the patterns were wavy lines because the song has repetition.

Develop:

DevelopThis was my last and final sketch with my two favorite patterns.

Something that i learned during this project is that sounds or beats play a big role in how patters are shaped. Something i would change would be my patters because i felt like i could’ve added more patters that were more than just wavy lines. But i definitely learned a lot from doing this project, even though it was a bit challenging.

DISCOVER:

This is where it all started from. The total was not 24 however, this is the sketches I like the most. As I was listening to the music I like, which is Without Me by Halsey. I  drew these patterns that go with the music.
DEFINE:

I chose my 6 best designs which I thought it goes with the music's sound.  Majority of these I drew waves since the sound was going up and down.
DEVELOP:

My last and final sketch. I used the modular grid and choose 2 of the best patterns that represent the music the most.

Things I learned while doing this project was how amazing the sounds of music will turn into a piece of art. Something I would change would be my patterns. I could not come up with really good patterns at all. I also would have chosen another song instead. Listening to the same songs over and over repeatedly I do get bored with it. I don’t know what I’ll learn in the next project after finishing this one.
