.) I have very much deviated from my original sketches throughout my creative process for this project. After both internal and external critique, I realized that the original concept in my sketches will fail to properly communicate the thematic message of my project.

.) My project mainly focuses on spreading awareness about the upcoming election and therefore, I would categorize it as informational. I aim to to design a poster that succinctly communicates the necessary information about the elections and how to proceed with voting.

.) No, I did not create a brain map and I partially wished I would. When tackling my projects, whether they be academic, professional and personal, I opt for a “hit or miss” strategy. That is, I will make a variety of attempts in my design until I hit the one that works. As I am writing this, I realize that I tend to base my strategy off of emotion and my personal likes and dislikes rather than the instructions of the prompt…if that makes sense.

.) No, my sketches did not come out the way I envisioned because I just cannot draw.

.) The project was fully executed in Adobe Illustrator.

Thanks for your candid reflection Yvan. Just remember you can always go back and tweak or recreate a thumbnail sketch or the mind map. What’s important is to see this as a process. Sometimes the solution comes very quickly sometimes you have to really work at. Being flexible and willing to drop an idea or put in on the back burner is part of that process. Our understanding of things (and the related ideas we generate) will change the more we research and become familiar with a subject – that is part of the natural flow. The goal (and the challenge) is to marry that knowledge with your emotional design instinct to create a solution that makes sense and works.
