Taking pictures of food

Taking pictures of food is just so common now in days I think food can be creative and beautiful, a different way to express our self sometimes but, I’m not the type of person that will let my food cold down just because I’m taking pictures of it. Food is art at certain point, but i prefer to take pictures of backgrounds, every time i visit a new place i will full my phone of all i see, but food. I won’t lie I may took two or four pictures of desserts on birthdays in the past as memories of whatever happen that day or if it was a special day to me, but pictures of food is not something I’m crazy about.

This picture that I’ve posted is the first photo that I’ve taken to kickstart a series of foods that I’ve personally made in preparation for my trip to France in 2015. I envisioned the project to be a “before and after France” compare and contrast, to identify improvements in selection, taste and artistry in my food. Ambitious, one might say. I completely agree. But what I wasn’t prepared for was the difficulty of producing said photos! I didn’t realize how complicated the task really was: on top of making the food, there is the consideration for getting the right angle, light, quantity, plating…the list goes on!

Although having said such, I would have to agree with Tucker Shaw (the food critic for the Denver Post) when he said that food can evoke unique memories and emotions that no other medium can. I swear that for each food photo that I’ve posted, I can still remember those moments while preparing the meal, right to the last moment when the food was consumed; all happy times! Sharing these photos does give one a sense of connectedness, not only because food conveys a joyful language that everyone can understand, but also because it reveals something personal about the blogger that anyone willing can appreciate.

Before I start my sentence, I must admit that I take pictures of food from time to time. However, I donā€™t like people take pictures of food in general. From my perspective, dining in at a restaurant is more about share a great moment with your accompany rather than take pictures of the food and the restaurant with small electronic device and post online to brag how amazing their lives are. I see many of my guests that are very busy posting pictures on their SNS and add comment right under them and say how happy they are to eat awesome foods with their close friends. That doesnā€™t mean that those guests always have good time. In fact, some of them barely even talk to their friends and they donā€™t always look happy.

Anyone who is actually appreciate food would want to eat it when it is at the right temperature.

When it comes to taking selfies everyones phone is full of them but when it comes to my phone there are more pictures of food than of myself and the other parts would be of words and sayings. But food is the main thing on my phone. I love to take pictures of food when the food is well represented and well organized. I find it creative and just fun. I can almost have my own blog of food because if I go to lets say a restaurant I take pictures of everything. These pictures are memories of so much food that we have eaten all our life. I suggest everyone to do so because its part of something really fun and creative.

Taking Pictures of Food

I love taking pictures in general but when it comes to taking pictures of food, I find it to be irritating. Every time i go out to eat with my family, friends or the people around me the first thing that they do when the food is served is they say “WAIT” takes out their phones or canon cameras. They take about three to five minutes or even longer trying to get a perfect picture from different varieties of angles and upload them onto Facebook or instagram like Is that really necessary? The best part of food is when the food is still fresh and hot. Within that time that most people waste in taking perfect pictures the food won’t taste as great when it gets cold. Hate to be mean but now a days i say no pictures when the food is served and if they want to take pictures it would be best if they just take Ā pictures of their own food so i can enjoy my food when it is still hot and fresh.

I love taking pictures of food specially when I’m in restaurants and the food has a beautiful design or it was served looking so good, my mother always tell me “Why are you taking pictures of your food just eat it!”. Taking pictures is something that I really love and I enjoy it, not only because I love it but because I love saving memories of places or food that I eat. And now that I’m taking this class “History Photography” I know that is gonna be really interesting.

Taking Pictures of food

I never had really felt the necessity of taking pictures of food whether in a supermarket or whether I am about to eat. The only time I have taken pictures of the food is when I have made cakes, but more in my culinary and baking classes I done in high school I took pictures of the productions their but besides that its about it. With this new learning community I am being opened up to a new point of view of photography and food and its connections , I am looking foward to makeing this a new hobby. I seen tons of wonderful pictures out their that people have taken to share with others but I feel some type of way when theirs pictures displayed of food thatā€™s been half way eaten and I just donā€™t find the artistic view on those pictures, I think that just a little to much. Pictures of food can provoke a certain view on a specific dish, it can transfer many different things Ā such as the aromas, and some pictures can make you hungry.

Taking pictures of food has been a normal routine for me whenever I am eating out with friends or family. Some people say grace before they eat, I take pictures of the food before I eat. I enjoy taking pictures of food because I get to express my creativity and showing appreciation towards the food. Every time the server delivers the food to the table, I will get comments like “you’re going to take pictures aren’t you?” or “make it quick, I am starving”. Yes, I am one of those people who stops their friends or family members from eating without having a picture of their food taken. It is a little irritating for them but they developed a new tactic to “photo bomb” my pictures by making silly faces or blocking the food with unpleasant hand gestures. I also developed a new method of taking good pictures of food by focusing on the right angle first then capture few quick shots. This wouldn’t be possible without my trusty iPhone 5, the main reason why I love my phone is because of the camera quality. I can relate to the YouTube spoof video of how I only use my phone to take pictures. After all, my photo album contains many food pictures and shameless “selfies”.

The New York Times article made me realize how some people actually take pictures of food to a whole new level. When I take pictures of food, it is only a few quick shots then I put my phone away. Although I agreed that lighting is important when it comes to taking pictures, I don’t think it is necessary to have the right lens or a professional camera. Unless you are doing a cover spread for Food and Wine Magazine, one should prioritize that there is a time and place for everything.

I am proud of my collection of food pictures. Each food picture showcases culture, art , memories and most importantly who I am.

Taking pictures of food

People around me love to take pictures of their food, which I do not understand at all. In fact, for me, the most exciting moment in the restaurant is when my food is ready and Iā€™m about to eat the delicious dish. However, almost every time, my friends ruin the best part of my mealtime by thrusting their cameras between my food and my fork. They go through a serious angle and lighting calculation process before taking pictures with their iphones. After waiting for them to go through all the hassle, then they ā€œletā€ me eat my food. My friends claim that they take pictures because they want to share their memories with their friends and families. Very few of them take pictures to promote their own recipes, and I do not have any problems with that because they do it when they are alone, not causing any trouble. As a person who is skeptical about sharing mere trifles with others, ā€œjust want to let everyone know that I had a good steakā€ part does not make sense at all. Nevertheless, I try to respect other peopleā€™s preferences. Just donā€™t make everybody on the table to wait for you to take pictures.
