I Guess This Is Me

https://openlab.citytech.cuny.edu/roseneng1101f2017/?p=153&preview=true

Hello every one my name is Casylee. I’m currently a freshman at City Tech, this is my first semester. This picture that I choose was the day I graduated high school which was this year in June. Not only was it the day I graduated but the day I was going to start a new chapter in my life. This chapter was beginning college.  When I first started high school I thought that it was going to be how it was on television.  People being cruel and nasty to one another but it actually wasn’t, it was the opposite from that. High school wasn’t really hard and now that I’m writing this and thinking back, college is way different. College is hard and this pictures shows that if I could make it throughout high school alive I’m pretty sure I can get through college alive. It is going to be tough but life isn’t easy and sometimes you gotta get through the rough days to get to the better ones. It may seem that in this picture my smile is fake but that’s not the case. This day was important because with all the work I had to do I got to the finish line. It showed that I went through a lot and that I’m a person who works hard for what they want no matter what it is.

In this picture something that stands out  is my face, I’m wearing makeup, I have my hair done, and the clothing I’m wearing stands out. Some people may misinterpreted the picture as me going out on lunch or breakfast. As well since the picture is cropped the other person in the picture is my father. He was at my graduation, so people may think that it isn’t my father who is next to me. Maybe it’s somebody else that I was hanging out with that day but it actually wasn’t,. The reason why I cropped out my fathers face was because I like the way I came out in the picture. Plus it very rare that I show my face so I had to crop him out for my own purposes. As well this picture was taken by me, I honestly didn’t want to take a picture with my dad for my own reasons. Some people may view this picture and see that I like to wear a lot of makeup. That’s not the case at all, I only wear makeup when it’s necessary. So don’t mistaken me as somebody who cakes my face, in other words someone who wear a lot of makeup.

My profile shows and tells a little about me and what I want to achieve in my life. It gives people a little inside of me and who I am and what I’m about. I don’t expect people to know exactly who I am and every detail about me but I hope people see that I’m a hard working person. That I want to make it far in life and becoming someone. With millions of people living in this world, a lot of people say that they are going to make it to the top and never do. They never tell people how they did it and if they don’t they probably cheated there way through life. That’s not what I want people to see me as, I want the opposite. I want to have an amazing career so I can support my family and possible encouraged other to do the same for themselves in the future.

To add on, it matters a lot that people see that I’m just not somebody who is lazy and doesn’t work. I want people to see that it took me awhile to get where I’m at and to show people that I did have some downfalls in my life but, it made me stronger. The big picture is that I wouldn’t be here without people doubting me and not believe in my strengths. With me being in college I expect to be better than I was in high school. I expect to do better and be on the top. As well to actually learn what I’m being taught rather just memorizing it. In City Tech I expect to push myself to the limit to where I graduate and am proud of what I have done for my family but proud to do it for myself.

Allotted

Allotted (transitive verb) :  to distribute by or as if by lot

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/allotted

“Not because high school was difficult – it wasn’t – but because of the freedom and increased amount of time we have allotted for whatever we need/want to do” – https://openlab.citytech.cuny.edu/roseneng1101f2017/2017/09/11/project-1-19/-  “project  #1 written by JayG”

When I first read that sentence and looked at the word I thought that it meant an excessive amount and then I read the sentence in which it was placed again and thought about not really being an excessive amount but just about enough time to do as we wish. I realize that my second thought is more of it than my first because the first idea is just saying a lot of time but by the definition and linking it back into the context that was made I realized it’s not just an abundance of time but it’s how it is distributed. While going back into that sentence it helped because in high school it’s not just a bunch of time but it’s just enough time for us to move and do things as we would please.

Project 1: Introducing Yourself

My name is Megan Whittaker and I am a Freshman at City College of Technology. Although my school has about 1700 students , I’d like to consider myself extremely unique. My passions and goals are ultimately different from my peers however we are all one large community of great team members. My biggest passions are nails and makeup. Since the age of 7 or 8 I’ve been interested in all different types of nails , every shape , color , and design. I never liked the thought of doing my own nails or doing someone else’s but I like to visit nails salons in different areas and try new different styles. I’ve sat in about 50 plus nails salons and I can truly say the culture and structure of every one is distinctive. Makeup on the other hand is a passion I’ve recently became fond of. I specifically like eyebrows because no two eyebrows are ever the same and it is fun to sit on my down time with all my brushes and work on my technique.
One thing I would consider very unique about myself is the philosophy I live by. Although it may sound simple it has great meaning in my life. It is simply “live life to your own standard”. To me this means more than the surface because today’s generation has set the most ludicrous standards and I refuse to join in. Being a teenager now means you’re supposed to have the most expensive clothing, longest weave, latest sneakers and most updated electronics. I personally buy the things I like regardless of whether it’s expensive or it’s deemed “popular” in the time. By setting my own standards for myself not only do I make myself happy I also can see how I grow as a person. I’ve realized how much I’ve matured and how my interest have changed. It is important to me that I live life to my own standard because I give myself guidelines and goals to follow and I know I will accomplish them‍. My current goal is more like a 10 year plan, I plan to be working as a corrections officer in the next 4 years and I will achieve this by passing the corrections test at the age of 21. After that I plan to go back to school and take courses that will help me get into child protective services. My ultimate goal in life is to expand my education and gain knowledge about various branches of the law and how they work simultaneously to run the country.
The avatar shown in my profile is a picture of my mother and I after my high school graduation. This picture can depict the relationship I share with my mother. She is my best friend and my number one supporter. We purposely decided to sit back to back to show that we will always have each other no matter what the situation is. This picture also represents the two things I mentioned previously that I have a passion for. My nails were done white with one finger a shade of silver sparkles and they were cut in coffin style. I got my nails done in the Bronx around my house and that specific salon is becoming my regular place. I did my nails white because it went very well with the gold dress that I was wearing. The second thing i’m passionate about, makeup, is represented in this photo by my eyebrows. I woke up extra early this day just to practice and make sure they were perfect and graduation ready. This avatar can also depict the beginning of my journey in achieving my long time goals. My diploma shows I graduated from a Law and Justice high school. This marks the first step for me because I was given a gist of law and what skills you would need to ensure success in pursuing a law career.
As well as doing a good job at representing me , my avatar left out some major details. This shows the end of my highschool career but it doesn’t show how hard I worked to make that moment possible. I had to deal with the fatal shooting of my brother and this put a major halt on my life. With losing my older brother I lost a lot of motivation and ambition. It took me a few years to get over his death but I knew I had to find a positive way to cope with my feelings and bettering my education became that outlet for me. One may misinterpret this picture and think this is the end of my journey but this only marks the beginning. Many people graduate from highschool and just stop there. I am proud to say I graduated and am continuing to expand my knowledge. The only thing that might also be misleading in this photo is one can assume that since the background is greenery that I might be fond of it but I absolutely attest that. I’m not very happy about flowers , bushes , trees or anything of that nature. Another miss interpretation someone might have of my avatar is that I graduated to make my mom proud like every other teenager. I morley graduated to show myself how determination could solve any goal.
Hence, you can basically know a lot about me by visiting my my profile. You can discover my likes and ambitions , you can see what relationships I have and so forth. My bio matters because it tells a little bit of my story and I can always look back on this to see my growth as a person. I expect this essay to work as a guide, I will be able to see where I started and see how far I would like to go. In the future I plan for some of this to change however. I would like to make bigger and better goals, develop new interest and gain more experience at city tech.

Future musician artist in the making

This is my first year on New York College Of Technology. I am majoring in computer science and I am hoping to move forward in my dream of becoming a musician using the skills I learn throughout my years in college my favorite genre of music is experimental, progressive rock, R&B and hip-hop . I graduated from Franklin Delano Roosevelt High School. My parents both originated from Dominican Republic, I was born and raised here in Brooklyn. my hobbies include, practicing making music from a program called fruity loops and my piano, skateboarding, and playing video games. I am also currently learning how to drive.

My personality is best described as easy-going, although I become very stressed and anxious easily I always try to look at the positive sides of situations. To some people this becomes very annoying or obnoxious but some see it as a shift of perspective when things start to get a panic vibe to them. I try my best in everything I do even if its the first time doing it. my philosophy in life has to be “Everything will be alright in the end, and if its not alright then it not the end”- Damon Albarn

I am currently trying to major in computer science and the first time, I came to the conclusion I wanted to make computers was not too long ago. when I had no computer experience before last year I bought all the parts to build a computer to play video games with my friends, I watched tutorials and learned how to put it all together. Once it was complete I had a sense of determination to continue fiddling with programs and parts to see what would work, I found it entertaining to see what works and doesn’t and that’s when I came to the conclusion: I want to work with computers to make music.

Project 1

Hey my name is Sarique Headley and I am currently a freshman attending the New York College Of Technology. I recently graduated in June from James Madison High school and wanted to take a big step to brighten my future so i thought city tech would be the best option for a commuting college. In high school i wasn’t the type of person to do a lot of extra curricular activities. Also in high school i wasn’t the best student in terms of grades, i could of definitely gotten better grades if i took high school more seriously. Basically my grades were alright but they could of been a lot  better if i applied myself. The most i did for extra curricular was take a guitar class and we used perform shows for the students and parents. I used to have a strong passion for playing electric guitar back then but i just don’t have the time for it anymore.

My major is currently computer systems technology. I am currently am taking a remedial math class so i have a little bit more time to decide if i want to stay in the major i am taking or switch to another. I want to make the right decision so this predicament that i got myself into wasn’t bad after all. I originally wanted to take computer science or computer engineering but as you can see i am not that good in math… I apply myself but some things don’t come that natural to everyone. Some of my interests are watching Youtube Videos, buying Sneakers/Clothes, and playing Basketball.

I’ve been interested in this field for a long time. Computer systems was my backup major and it is actually pretty interesting. These fields are pretty similar so I am not that mad about it. I really like the fact that you can choose the specific areas in the major that you like. Hopefully this journey towards success will be a good one. I definitely will take college a lot more serious than high school. I honestly don’t know where ill be in 5 or 10 years, Predicting where you will be in that amount of time is really challenging and impossible, but i will definitely have my associates or bachelors degree but I guess well have to wait and see to find out.

My sign is Sagittarius and I think that is why i am so quiet and laid back. I picked this picture because i feel like it represents me the most. If you don’t know already this is the Sagittarius sign. I feel like if you first looked at the picture and didn’t already know what it was you would get an aggressive vibe from it, but that is not true. I love meeting new people but i am very quiet at times and it takes me a while to get used to people. I feel like the picture/sign is responsible for my personality. For example if you look up the sign people say that we are very independent, dependable, etc. People also say that we are very cold and don’t like to express our feelings… I feel like the picture relates to my personality and how i act.

As i was writing this profile i kind of got to see the type of person i am in a different look i guess. But overall i want to become a successful person in the future and i want to Always Strive and Prosper.

The Story of The World’s Soon Greatest Ophthalomogist

My name is Shemika and I was always passionate about becoming a doctor, but I was uncertain of which field to specialize in. I wanted to become a Research Doctor to find the cure for HIV\AIDS. I became interested in this field because someone in my neighborhood was infected with the disease and I’ll watch the individual suffer and have several breakouts. When it was time to attend high school, I wanted to attend to Clara Barton for nursing but someone introduced William. H Maxwell High School and praised its Vision Care Technology program. I attended Maxwell and enrolled in the program in which I graduated as an honored student and received the gold award in the vision program. After three years of attending high school I knew I wanted to become an Ophthalmologist.

My aesthetic sensibility that guide me are reaching, achieving, gaining, and succeeding goals, needs, and wants. I choose these aesthetic sensibilities because when it comes to my education I love to gain knowledge and expand in critical thinking. Failure is not an option but we all must fail at some point to make us better; and in the long run it makes us stronger and more competitive. In five to ten years I will like to be attending medical school to become an Ophthalmologist and start putting my ideas together to open an optical business. I am very out-going, people oriented, very humbled, open- minded, talkative, and I love the Vision Care Technology Program. My career goal is to become the best in whatever I do and make sure my patients leave with the best possible vision.

My profile picture is a representation of me two days after my senior prom. It was my senior picnic and exactly one week before I graduate. Nevertheless, that day held more meaning to it than a senior picnic. I was also attending the Lupus Walk. A few months before the Senior Picnic and Lupus Walk one of my high school teachers past away from the Lupus disease. Therefore, I wore a purple ribbon in honor of her and walked on her behalf. However, I knew she would have wanted me to be happy and enjoy the picnic so I did.
Persons may misinterpret this picture as someone that is always confident and hang out a lot. Sometimes it is the opposite, I am not always confident and do not always hangout. That day started out very gloomy, but it managed to bloom into a wonderful day with much laughter and enjoyment.

In my bio, I spoke about my future, learning about my career, graduating, aesthetic sensibilities that guides me, some characteristics about me, and ideas. I spoke about these things because ever since I was thirteen I always wanted a career in something that I love doing; and I knew I wanted to become a doctor. Graduating high school was important because I knew it was going to lead me one step closer to my career. I worked hard to obtain the gold in my major because I became passionate about Vision Care Technology. I have only stated some aesthetic sensibilities but the most important one is my mom. I see her working hard daily for me to accomplish my goals.

I may not like failure but every time I fail my mother is right there encouraging me to try again. I have a lot of ideas for an optical business in the future and I will love to gain opportunities especially with persons that has been in the business for years. In life  you never know when it is time to leave this precious thing call life. Therefore, live each day happy although discouragement may come your way; and never give up on your dream. While attending City Tech I expect to push myself pass my expected limit, I expect greatness and success and any opportunity that may come my way. I expect to also graduate with honors once more if I am granted with it, but most importantly I expect to enjoy my time there.

The Chronicles of Hope

Hello everyone! The people I speak to call me Hope, as that is what I’ve been trying to bring to people for the past few years. I achieved this title as I spent most of my teenage years venturing out into the open space of the internet which led me into some unsavory parts of it. After seeing many things on there, I joined up with a collective of other people who had a similar goal as myself, which was to help the people of the interwebs be free of their dire situations. I was then given that name after one of the people we communicated with on there said to me that I was her last hope. After that many of my names have some sort of variation of the word Hope in it.

My profile picture I feel is a representation of that as it is the alchemical transmutation circle for a human transmutation. One of the rules of alchemy is the Law of Equivalent Exchange. This law states that something cannot come from nothing and that everything must come from something. To put it simpler, if you want something you must be prepared to give something of equal value be it time, effort, money or… other things. The other part of it is that we have been trying for many hundreds of years to make artificial humans, we have everything needed to down to every molecule, however we still are unable to reproduce the “spark” needed to jump start life. This is related because it shows that the life we have now is something special and should not be taken for granted and that we should try our best to protect and save the lives of those who cannot. On the other hand, if you compare human life to the grand scale of the universe, we are nothing in the grand scheme of things. So take that with a grain of salt.

Some of my interests are playing video games, mainly RPGs (role playing games) as it takes you away from some of the abhorrent things I’ve seen that humans are capable of doing to each other. In the “real” world I’m a person who visits many sites and tries to track down the locations and activities of people who commit heinous acts and in doing so I have to witness these acts. In the game, however, I could be anyone I choose. I could be a valiant knight whose goal is to save the kingdom from some necromancer, or I could be a powerful mage who is trying to spread the word of God with my horde of undead. Even still I could be a cunning rouge who only seeks to gain fame and glory through sabotage and subterfuge. The problems are very one dimensional and have no repercussions. They have a precise way of solving them and they can and will be solved very easily once you know how. The good always wins. In real life however, that is rarely true.

I also would love to work on keeping my fellow peers safe in their online interactions as most people now a days have no idea how much information is easily obtained from their daily posts to their social media. This allows anyone to easily access their private information including but not limited to their live location.

I hope to achieve a higher education with this schooling in order to do what I do professionally and without having to do in in the shadows as how it’s being done now, it can be misconstrued as since “you viewed the materials as well so you’re equally as guilty.”

“The ones who seem the happiest, are usually the ones with the most pain.”
