with the glossary assignment it was not hard but it was kind of difficult finding words that you really didn’t know what the meant some of the words I know what they meant but I still really didn’t understand the meaning of the word so I still choose to put the words into my glossary. But as I went on throughout the semester I was forgetting to add words to my glossary so that’s why now I had to add five more words to it when I thought I had already done so I think that its a good idea to look up words you don’t know when you are reading so that you can understand what you are reading when you come cross words that you may be familiar with or do not understand .

This glossary assignment wasn’t a hard task to complete and if I had more time to myself I would’ve definitely added more words to my glossary. However,  the more we moved on the throughout the semester , the less I paid attention to this assignment and had to do this assignment last minute  .   However,  this assignment is very beneficial when it comes to expanding your vocabulary because then you can use this method as a life skill. I sincerely enjoyed learning new words in class and reading my classmates glossary. I learn a lot from this glossary assignment  and I will definitely apply this method to continue  expanding my vocabulary.

Gretchen, Reynolds“How Walking in Nature Changes the Brain.”  The New York Times 22,July,2015

In this article  Mr. Reynolds  talk’s about  Gregory Bratman research, about the before and after effects in walking in nature.   Gregory Bratman  was a former student  Emmett Interdisciplinary Program in Environment and Resources at Stanford University. Reynolds explain’s more about Bratman’s research. In the article it also mentions how the human brain restrains from stress and has less blood flow compared when someone that is “work up”.  Bratman also predicted that people that don’t explore nature as frequently are more likely to get mental illness like, depression , anxiety and more. Observing Bratman research , walking through nature help’s reduce’s  significantly mental illnesses.  Ultimately , this article is about the brain patterns, how different brain patterns change when people go to nature and what are the after effect when people go to nature. Project #4 Part 1

Using the Google’s Maps app, I was able to find a route where I can enjoy a nice walk, passing a small park. When I take the detour it will involve me taking a different train to school. The train would leave me at the Borough Hall station, then I would walk up Cadman Plaza W. Here I would have a good view of the Korean War Veteran Park. Normally I would take the fastest route to the school which would be the 7 train to the F train (about 45 min). If I take the alternate rout to enjoy the peaceful walk through the park, I would have to give my self an additional 15 minutes of traveling time infer to enjoy the walk to school.

Fastest Route or Most Beautiful?

In the article ” What If You Could Choose Between the Fastest Route and the Most Beautiful” written by Lex Berko, the author discussed an experiment that may eventually take the form of an app. The app would allow people to chose whether they would take a different route to their destination, if it was an enjoyable experience. The reasoning for this experiment was the idea that”mapping apps are fantastic but are also a little soulless”, which is the sentence the author opened the article with. This claim was then supported by the idea of how quickly the mapping apps gets you from one place to another but along that route it may be an unpleasant experience. The text further discussed the results from a survey that the researchers gave to people that lived in London and discussed the differences between each area they seemed to think was more happy, beautiful or calm. In this article the author had a tone of optimism, because they discussed having hope that in the future there will be something that would allow people to have the opportunity of choosing the most beautiful based on their preference.

Why I chose Barclays center

Image result for barclays center

I chose Barclays center as my point of interest for my project #3 because I really find that this was the place I began to understand the message behind the project. That everyone’s version of New York is different because of the experience they have in the city they create this image of their own specific version of the city one more different to the last. One persons experience could be the complete opposite of another.I believe its kind of an unique idea mixed in opinion and pretty much shows the persons personality towards their emotions over the city. For example Colson Whitehead’s  “city limits” essay at one point explains in the third paragraph: “only skyscrapers visible from your stroller were the legs of adults” that even at an early age an idea of a personal New York can exist. one person could love the loudness and festiveness of the city and see it as a place for opportunity, others are bitter twords the city and believe that its overrated and the city does not fit the cliche of what others think. I’m some where in the middle. As much as I enjoy living here there are things I do dislike about it. That is how I see my New York. Another perspective of New York and the difference between them is also in “City Limits” is a passage found in the second page “There are eight million naked cities in the naked city — they dispute and disagree. The New York City you live in is not my New York City;” further explaining that no ones version of the city is exactly the same. They may be similar but never the same. The ideas can argue with each other of what New York is really about and to appreciate that we are here and be grateful before our versions of New York change, the city is always having new buildings and tearing down others. That we should not take things for granted.

“Vistor Strolls” Summary

In the article ” A Literary Visitor Strolls In From The Airport” by ( Charles McGrath)  was about an odd author called Will Self that left his drug/alcoholic addiction for 8 years and started  analyzing places during his long marathon walks. The reason why Will Self takes long walks because he mention in the article  that walking makes him feels better than drugs .  However, Mr. Self came to the United States to explore most of of New York’s  geography and to see it’s culture. Impressively, Will walked from  JFK airport to Manhattan and also describes and explains how every borough is different from one another.

Summary of “A Literary Visitor Strolls in From the Airport”

In the article “A Literary Visitor Strolls in From the Airport” by Charles McGrath something that was pointed out was that a man named Will Self came to New York to discover the city life. The way he explores New York is interesting. The fact that he walked 26 miles from his house to the airport is amazing. The fact that  a lot of people don’t do that or have the same mindset as Mr.Self. As well something that this article covers is the fact that he enjoys exploring New York. Mr.Self likes getting to know what New York is all about. What this article covers most is how Mr.Self goes everyday walking in New York. Which makes readers question whether or not he is obsessed with walking.  The amount of walking he does from certain areas and describes his interactions with other people around the area shows he is trying to react something. As well it ties on how Mr.Self overcomes his challenges which is walking. It states in the article “Alcohol and drugs tend to keep you from taking walk…But I’m not addicted, he said. I don’t need to score a walk”. So what this shows is that how some people are addicted to drugs where in Mr.Self situation he isn’t addicted to walking. It’s the fact that it’s a goal of his to achieve and it happens to be in New York that he achieves it at. The key point from this article is Mr.Self walking. The fact that he walks 20 miles and 26 miles shows that he wants to accomplish something big.

Colson Whitehead “City Limits” Summary

“City Limits” is a post from The Colossus of New York written by Colson Whitehead, the entire article is about their experience living in New York City. The entire article has a very conversational tone, like the author is talking to a friend rather than millions of people on the internet. Whitehead goes into detail about his initial thoughts of New York City, he remembers looking out the subway window as the train left the tunnel and thought that everything is filthy and he still calls a building he saw the Pan Am building simply because that is what he grew up with. New York City is a city that never stays the same after a day, there is always some old building being torn down for a new coffee shop or some random new open space that appears out of nowhere. This article is talking about the differences between tourists in New York and natives of New York. Tourists always come to New York City for the many different fun things to do and fantastic places to see, however, to a native of new york some new shopping center used to be an old park or the old and dirty sidewalk you used to walk down is now new and sparkly. In New York City there are a lot of nameless cities in new york city, filled with people who have different versions of what their new york city is like. However, it doesnt change the fact that one way or another new york city people are all neighbors. I think that is the point that Colson Whitehead is trying to make at the end of his article, despite the many, many differences there are in the city everyone is still close to each other one way or another.
