Taking the time to remember the start of the semester and receiving the glossary assignment, I am astonished on how time went by so fast. At first I thought the glossary words were going to be a wast of time and energy. I was not used to looking words up,  and I think the professor wanted us to learn this skill. I am a person who does not take advantage of technology for educational purposes. For this assignment, I took technology in account when looking up words. I became more aware of what I read during class and how the words play together to make sense. If I didn’t understand what the word meant by context clues, I would use my phone to search up the definition of the word. Not only do I look up words that I don’t understand but I also now look up words that I hear throughout the day. Now during the final weeks of the semester I see why looking up words is very important. With the skill that the professor brought upon us, we are able to analyze the text more efficiently. I see the importance of expanding our vocabulary, and the only way to do this is by taking the time and lookin the word up and learning the meaning.

Inherent

Inherent (adjective) Involved in the constitution or essential character of something.

“Strangers are inherently unfamiliar to the us,…”

https://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/05/16/subway-strangers-commuting-be-nicer_n_5276529.htm

When reading the article, I came across the word inherent. To my understanding this word means a characteristic of something,

Cortex

Cortex – The outer or superficial part of an organ or bodily structure

“The auditory cortex, one of the mean areas that processes sounds in the brain.”

https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2014/07/140731102524.htm

To my understanding of the word, it means a part of your body, like an organ.

Ambiguous

Ambiguous (Adjective) – Doubtful or uncertain especially from obscurity or indistinctness

“While the subways’s arrival be ambiguous, on thing about your commute is certain…”

https://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/05/16/subway-strangers-commuting-be-nicer_n_5276529.

After reading the definition, I understood the word Ambiguous to mean not to be relatable.

Crowdsourcing

Crowdsourcing – the practice of obtaining needed services, ideas, or content by soliciting contributions from a large group of people and especially from the online community rather than from traditional employees or suppliers

“Crowdsourcing this sort of data is too intensive a strategy to use for every city worldwide.”

https://www.citylab.com/transportation/2014/07/how-to-set-your-mapping-apps-sights-on-the-scenic-route/374483/

crowdsourcing is gathering large amounts of data by people.

Devoid

Devoid (adjective) – Being without a usual, typical, or expected attribute or accompaniment.

“Imagine a world suddenly devoid of door”

“We Want Privacy, but Can’t Stop Sharing” by Kate Murphy

When I first look at the word I had a felling of what it meant but I was not sure.I though that the word meant the something missing or not their. When looking up the word I found out that the word meant, I was correct in my assumption.

Cognition

Cognition(noun)-mental processes

“The study found that a set of volunteer who suffered from depression improve their cognition, which is that they could that they could remember s string of digits, and could repeat them both forward and backward after a 50 minutes walk through a woodland park, better than those who a walk in a busy city street.” – The Telegraph-Journal “Age, grace, and the art of walking outside”

When reading the sentence I could not understand what Cognition means. Looking up the word online, I now understand what the word means. The word Cognitions means mental process, this includes perception, memory, thinking, and emotion.
