Yesterday was my last day of work, it was a sad knowing I was not going to be able to see those smiling faces that made me proud of what I do. Saying by to all those great people I’ve met throughout this program was emotional but it’s all those moment that we shared that truly matter. I consider myself fortunate to have had the privilege to meet all of my fellow cast members , supporting leaders and many unforgettable guest, that was truly magical.

I could only imagine how hard it must be for all the full time cast members and leaders to see many CPs come and go, it’s all very rapid and as soon as you start building a trust relationship it seems like time is up. I think many cast members try their best to keep their distance from CPs not because they despise us (or perhaps they do) but rather to avoid going through seeing a very good friend leave. It is not easy, in my case I looked up to many full time cast members because each one of them had a story for instance one of the new front desk cashiers had been transferred from driving a ferry boat for about ten years, he loved it.  Unfortunately soon after he finished training they placed him for graveyard, he seems tired but always smiles and has a great spirit, I hope he can get a better schedule.

Yesterday I was able to spend some time with one of my leaders whom I deeply admire. She is a very hard working woman, she motivates you to do your best and when ever I was in doubt as soon as I approached her, she listened. Always taking everyone’s opinion into consideration, she always found ways to make guest and cast happy. It was a pleasure working with everyone, every smile had a different story and I am grateful to have them be part of my story.

Nonetheless, I am very proud to say I have successfully completed this program.

Graduation Day! I remember graduation day being in the same week as when my final projects were due for my classes so this was a nice reprieve from all the stress. I wish I had taken pictures with the other characters but I was too distracted by the food which turned out better than the pizza they normally serve at housing events. I also won a poster from the DJ stand by answering Disney trivia!

Graduation Day!

Graduation Day!

I felt so anxious getting my graduation hat and diploma. It was finally starting to feel real to me that my program was up. I was not ready! There were so many things I wanted to do before graduating but with a week left, how could I do them all? I tried not to panic though and resolved to just spend my remaining time working and being with friends.

That Thursday was Starlit Splash! I had actually never been to Typhoon Lagoon before then and I had an amazing time. I’m very grateful to the Typhoon Lagoon CPs who had to work that night. I found it unfair that they had to miss it and I really think there should be more done about CPs who have to work during the end-of-session event and during the two graduation days. It was a really fun experience. I never realized how many CPs there were until that day. Looking around the packed water park made me think about how many people I didn’t get a chance to talk to or befriend. Missed opportunities! However, there will always be other chances to meet new people even if it’s not through this program.

Thinking back, one of the greatest experiences I had during the program was taking the classes Creativity and Innovation and Organizational Leadership. I learned a lot about myself as a team member, a leader, and as a learner overall. I also worked with a diverse group of people. There were classmates who went along with everything, classmates who did not do any work at all, and teammates who tried to take control for every project.

For my Creativity and Innovation class, my team members changed throughout the semester. Many students dropped the class and so my team dwindled down to only three by the end. For our final project, we had to present a new store concept to the class. While my team had three members left, there were some “teams” that only had one! I’ve learned that you always have to be prepared to take on big responsibilities alone, even if someone is supposed to help you along the way.

To conclude the class, our teacher Ellen had us commit to doing something creative after the class ended. I’ve made a commitment to continue writing in my creative journal 4-5 times every week. Making that commitment pushes me to go out and actually do something every week and through that journal, I’ve actually learned a lot about myself. I want to continue to know myself better.

My Organizational Leadership class was also very insightful and I’m so happy I had the teammates I had. These were the most harmonious group of girls I’ve ever worked with. If we ever disagreed on something, we were quick to come to a consensus. We worked very well together and when we parted ways, we all agreed that this was the best team we’ve ever had. We were also the only team that maintained the same number of team members from the beginning of the semester!

All in all, I loved my Disney classes. If I had extended or if I ever participate in another Disney College Program, I would definitely sign up for another class. I’ve also made wonderful friends in class and learned so much from my classmates!

Yesterday was by far the busiest day I have encounter since I’ve worked with Disney. I got to work at four and since the moment I stepped into the desk from the moment I got off, it was a non-stop check in after another, before I got a minute to catch my breath another guest walked up to me. At one point I lost my voice for a second, on the bright side time went by very quickly.

During memorial day weekend there is a lot going on such as many groups such as soccer teams competing at ESPN, Star Wars weekend  and Magic Kingdom being open for 24 hours straight from friday 6am to saturday 6am. The resorts have been to full capacity and for many guest we have had to “walk” them to other resorts due to having no availability. I had the pleasure to tell a couple they were going to be upgraded to the Grand Floridian, they were speechless and couldn’t believe it. They were so thankful, they gave me a four keys card, it was a great day.

These past several weeks have been very emotional since some of my close friends have been going home however, I keep the times we share dear in my heart.

At the resort we had been on a steady flow, not too busy yet however the summer season is quickly approaching therefore soon it will pick up. I have noticed that during early May a lot of Florida Residents stay at the resort since they are given really good deals, it is always nice to see the locals and most of them come to Disney so often they know what’s going on therefore checking them in is very straight forward. On the other hand sometimes their expectations are very high and they expect special treatment, I always do my best to fulfill any of their request however sometimes it can’t be done. Another thing with passholders to precise they don’t like change so when for instance they have new magic bands waiting for them they don’t like to change them or they always stay at the same resort and theme.

Now that I finished taking my both Disney classes, I could say that my favorite class is Human Resource Management. At first when I applied for this class, I wasn’t really looking forward to taking it. This class it’s different from what major is, I wanted to take a class that was part of my major which is Hospitality Management. But now after taking this class, I’m glad I took this class. The professor it’s amazing teacher, loved the way he did things by making us do activities and he was really funny. He made the class fun and interesting for me. By the end of this class, I know I could use what I learned in the future in any career I choose to take; the professor helped me understand this. This helps me by knowing if there is anything illegal going on in my workplace. I know my rights as an employee.
Human Resource Management aims to identifying, exploring and nurturing intellectual human capital in the fields of Education & Business Management, Social Sciences, and Humanities and inclined to attain a significant place in the world of academic research by its commendable activities. Human resource management it’s based on staffing, motivation, maintenance and training. Staffing it’s when seeking, attracting and hiring qualified people. It’s made of several factors like strategic Human Resource planning, recruiting, and selection. Training its Activities in Human Resource Management related with assisting employees to develop up-to-date skills, knowledge and abilities. Motivation its Activities in Human Resource Management related with helping employees work at high energy levels. Maintenance its Activities in Human Resource Management related with the maintaining employees’ commitment and loyalty to the organization. I learned about the laws that are impacted people workplace. For example the pregnancy discrimination act, meaning that you can’t fire a woman that is pregnant. I also learned about the civil rights act meaning that you can’t fire a person because of their sex, religion, national origin etc.
Civil rights Act of 1964 it’s the one the most affected me while learning about it in class. It’s A federal law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex (including pregnancy), and religion in employment, education, and access to public facilities and public accommodations, such as restaurants and hotels. The employment provisions of the law are often referred to as “Title VII,” based on their location in the U.S. Code. I read an article called “Gay Rights Still an Issue for G.O.P. Base” by Albert R. Hunt. This article it’s about how gay rights it’s still a big issue in the United S tates. It’s says that “There are 19 states that have religious freedom laws, and some go beyond the 1993 federal law. Four — Connecticut, Illinois, New Mexico and Rhode Island — have measures that include a ban on discrimination based on sexual orientation’. We are 50 sates meaning that there still a good amount of states that are against gay rights. It’s very unfair and I could only imagine how those people feel living in those states.

Journal Entry #14

I ended getting moved up to commons. In checking day, when they told me I was going to move into the commons, I was upset because I thought I was going pay more for rent. Commons is the complex that has free laundry because it’s in the house. I have co workers that pay rent up to $120 which I was really worried about. I was paying $98 in vista and I was fine. I just didn’t want my check to lose less because of my rent. So it’s five girls now instead of six. They seem really nice and cool to hang out with. Everything it’s good so far and when they told me rent its 91$ I was even happier and relieved. I ended up in the 3 person room, but at least I’m not in the top bunk bed, I took the bottom.

Now that I finished class, I have been getting scheduled a lot of hours, and the more hours the better. It’s a good feeling knowing that I real days off, I get to go out, I love how now I’m getting auto plaza shifts, and closing shifts are 7:30 which is great. Now I get to actually go out with my friends. I went to blizzard beach with my co-worker and it was really fun. We went to all the rides and stayed in the pool for like 30 minutes. We went as soon as they opened the park so we get to do everything early and fast.

Journal Entry #13

Just seeing my roommates leaving today, has hit me. If I hadn’t extended I would be leaving today. I miss home so much now. But I know if I hadn’t extended, I would of regret it. There’s is So much I still want to do that I haven’t done. Eat at the most popular restaurants like be our guest and Ohana. And get to know Disney more like go to the water parks and the mini gulfs areas. My roommates and I went out to eat at trails end restaurant in fort wilderness campsites to eat breakfast and it was so good , the waiters were so nice highly recommend it. Its 40% all year for cast members, lunch and breakfast. After that I took them to do last minute shopping in cast connections and in target. It was nice spending time with them on their last days. When we said bye to each other we cried. I am truly going to miss them. I hope my new roommates are as cool as these were. I have to move out by Sunday and have to check in like last time. It’s like starting all over again which I don’t like.

So I finally finished my two Disney classes. I’m so glad I finished, I was really stressed with the group projects. So as I predicted, I ended up doing all the work for everybody. Nobody had time to do the work, so I ended up doing all the work. I couldn’t give up because I knew I was going to get credited for these classes and I wanted to prove people wrong, which I did. I ended having an 82 for experiential class and an 86 for human resource management. I did my best with working all these crazy hours. And I have perfect attendance for both classes which I’m really proud off. I found out that being a way from everybody back home, I was able to focus more and do better on the classes. Now I know that back home I get distracted. When I get back home, I know what to do to not lose focus of my school work.

11224536_922201914485555_7593178774464847894_nI was finally able to visit Animal Kingdom but I did not get to cover the entire park. Mount Everest had a 10 minute wait time so I took advantage of that and got on the ride a few times. This has become one of11036889_922201874485559_7611956356130837729_n my favorite rides throughout all the Disney Parks. It was a very hot day and fortunately I was able to get a fast pass for Kali River Rapid Congo. I did not expect the drop to be that intense but it was a fun experience. I was also able to do two trails, which were both fun and educating. While viewing the bats it was surprising to me that there was no glass as a barrier between the guests and the bats.

I am really excited because I began training at Disney’s Blizzard Beach this week. I had classes at Disney University, which was a shorter version of the Welcome to Operations that we first had to take upon arrival. After this class I took Welcome to Park Operations, which went over a brief description of each role and what to expect in the theme parks. I also had Forecast Blizzard and I have never been to Blizzard Beach prior to this class so I was so excited. The park is not that big but there is a lot of walking involved if you are not taking the chair lift.
