Upperclassman Internship For Architecture and Civil Engineering Majors

The WJE New York office located in Midtown Manhattan is seeking candidates who are current students for a Summer-Fall 2019 Co-Op / Internship.  Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc. (WJE) is the nation’s premier team of expert architects, structural engineers, and materials scientists solving the problems of contemporary and historic structures. We will provide top-notch students the opportunity to apply classroom learning to real-world challenges, while working with recognized experts in forensic architecture and engineering. Our Co-Op / Internship program assists in identifying high-potential, technically-adept professionals for regular, full-time employment upon graduation.

WJE provides unique opportunities for architecture students to learn about architectural and construction detailing at active project sites throughout New York City. Candidates will assist architects and engineers in the evaluation of field conditions at various types of construction environments. Historic preservation, curtain wall detailing, waterproofing detailing, project management, the interaction of structural and architectural design, and technical inspection topics are some of the many subject matters explored on a daily basis by the New York Offices’ 27 technical staff members.

Requirements:

  • Qualified candidates will have completed at least two years of bachelor’s study in schools of architecture or engineering (civil and structural), building engineering (science), and building construction and technology.
  • Stand-out candidates are also seeking minors, certificates, or research in interdisciplinary programs that integrate education in fields related to building performance, such as involvement with the Building Engineering Group, construction management, sustainability, and mechanical systems.
  • Must have at least a 3.0 out of 4.0 GPA.
  • Ideal candidates will have a strong interest in supporting and working with a professional staff that focuses on evaluating and designing repairs for problems that occur in the built world.
  • Candidates should be available to work a minimum of 40 hours a week.
  • Additionally, qualified candidates will demonstrate strong leadership skills, integrity, excellent oral and written communication skills, drafting proficiency, curiosity, and enthusiasm.
  • Relevant work experience desirable but not required.
