The steps Jillian Tamaki uses are similar to what I do to come up with concepts. She finds things that interest her and save them in a reference folder so she could come back to it later to either form or build up on ideas. She also suggest to go places to find inspiration like the movie theaters for instance. From there she suggest to thoroughly read the content. Then brainstorm any words associated with the content. She goes and looks for images that would help develop an idea and then she will start mixing words to come up with concepts even if they are unexpected combinations. She refers back to references to get help develop her characters or concept further in the sketch. Then she continues to finish up the concepts. We have very similar methods in coming up with concepts. For me at least, trying to put together words and making them into a sketch is a little challenging. I need to try mixing unexpected words to come up with unexpected concepts.
