The CUNY Peer Leaders Program Spring ’26!

Are you, or do you know, a motivated, collaborative undergraduate scholar at any of CUNY’s 2 or 4 year campuses? Then consider applying for the CUNY Peer Leaders program!

CUNY Peer Leaders is a program housed at the Graduate Center that welcomes 30+ undergraduate students annually from across CUNY colleges. The program supports their leadership and mentorship skills, which they in turn use to to create pathways for humanities based scholarship with a core component on elements of self-care, wellness and social justice. CUNY Peer Leaders develop a culminating project of their choice and create a portfolio of public writing pieces or other creative works on the program blog, with guidance from peers, staff and faculty. 

CUNY Peer Leaders are required to attend a community building orientation in late January, where students learn about important resources and acquire vital skills that will aid them in their service as a CUNY Peer Leader, attend biweekly meet-ups (hybrid) on Friday afternoons (3:00pm to 5:00pm), and workshops and events designed to build community and leadership skills. 

Students will receive a stipend of $500 for their participation in March 2026, as well as support for other modest funding opportunities for additional projects students may work on, if financial circumstances permit. 

All CUNY undergraduate students are welcome to apply by completing the online application form by Tuesday, September 30, 2025.

Velay Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship

The following announcement comes from The CUNY Office of Research for all Student-Researchers:

We are excited to announce the open call for applications to the 2025 Velay Scholars Research Fellowship (VSURF) program. This prestigious program offers a ten-week summer research and professional development experience designed to immerse undergraduate students in cutting-edge research across various disciplines.

Program Highlights:

  • Duration: June 2nd – August 8th, 2025
  • Stipend: $5,000 upon successful completion
  • Culmination: Poster presentation showcasing your research

Eligibility Criteria:

  • CUNY undergraduates completing their sophomore or junior year
  • CUNY Community College students with at least 30 credits at the time of application
  • Interest in careers in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM)

We are extending the application deadline for the 2025-2026 HASTAC Scholars Program! HASTAC Scholars is a dynamic community of graduate and undergraduate students working across the intersections of technology, arts, humanities, and sciences. Scholars engage in collaborative projects, lead discussions, contribute to online forums, and showcase their research through various digital platforms. Open to students from all disciplines, the program offers a unique opportunity to connect globally, develop innovative projects, and help shape equitable educational systems.

2024 Velay Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship

The Velay Scholars Research Fellowship, offered by the CUNY Office of Reseach, is designed to provide undergraduate students with immersive research experiences. By participating in the Summer Velay Program, students will have the opportunity to:

  • Engage in cutting-edge research across a wide range of disciplines.
  • Work closely with esteemed faculty mentors on meaningful research projects.
  • Develop essential skills in critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication.
  • Connect with a diverse community of scholars and peers who share their passion for inquiry and discovery.

This program is open to students from all academic backgrounds who are eager to dive deep into the world of research and make a tangible impact in their fields of interest. The projected timeline for the fellowship will be from Mon. June 3rd – Thurs. August 8th, 2024, which will culminate in a poster presentation to highlight the research done during the summer. Upon full completion of the program, students will receive a $5,000 stipend.

Eligibility:

  • All CUNY undergraduates  interested in careers in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics.
  • CUNY undergraduates completing their sophomore or junior year may apply.
  • CUNY Community College students with at least 30 credits at the time of application are also encouraged to apply.

Eligible students are encouraged to visit the Velay Scholars Research Fellowship program website to learn more about the Velay Scholars Research Fellowship and access the online application portal. There is also an FAQ section for common questions students might have about the program. The application deadline is Friday, March 25th, 2024.

Calling all students: This is a great opportunity to network with students from other institution and disciplines and to engage in academic discussions at the convergence of technology, arts, humanities, and sciences. Students also have the opportunity to share their research in a very welcoming environment. Please note: you will need a faculty mentor to sponsor your fellowship.

Calling all mentors: consider recommending your student researchers apply to become a HASTAC Scholar, and work with them as their mentor.

HASTAC Scholar Applications Are Open! Apply by October 31, 2023. 

HASTAC Scholars brings together dynamic graduate and undergraduate students pushing boundaries in the arts, humanities, sciences, and technology. 

The HASTAC Scholars initiative constitutes an inventive, student-centric community comprising both graduate and undergraduate participants. Annually, a fresh cohort of approximately 100 Scholars is welcomed into the program for a span of 2 years. These Scholars represent diverse academic backgrounds, drawing from a multitude of disciplines, and their affiliations span more than 200 colleges and universities, ranging from intimate liberal arts institutions to expansive research-centric establishments.

Emerging HASTAC Scholars will actively contribute to the development of a vibrant collective that operates at the convergence of technology, arts, humanities, and sciences. Through a plethora of engagements, they will foster this vibrant community – hosting online dialogues, coordinating collaborative book reviews, crafting insightful blog entries, showcasing their research and passions via the HASTAC Scholar Spotlight, participating in Digital Fridays, and undertaking a myriad of other enriching activities.

As a HASTAC Scholar, you will:

  • Connect with scholars globally to exchange ideas, collaborate on projects, and form new networks
  • Showcase your research through blog posts, videos, interviews, and spotlight features 
  • Organize and lead discussions on academic texts, tools, and critical issues in your field
  • Conceptualize new digital projects and pedagogies and receive feedback from peers
  • Help shape programming that fits your needs and interests as an emerging scholar
  • Gain access to resources and opportunities available exclusively to HASTAC Scholars

We (HASTAC) welcome students from all disciplines who want to rethink higher education and work towards more equitable systems. Every HASTAC Scholar contributes uniquely – we can’t wait to see how you will lead and build community. 

In recognition of our partnership with The Graduate Center at CUNY, we are pleased to announce that CUNY students will be exempt from inscription fees.

Internship Opportunities at the American Philosophical Society Library

2019-2020 Fellowship and Internship Opportunities at the American Philosophical Society Library

The American Philosophical Society Library in Philadelphia invites applications for long and short-term research fellowships for scholars working in all fields, and especially those working on projects pertaining to the history of science, technology, and medicine; early American history; and Native American and Indigenous Studies.  The Library is also accepting applications for its 8-week Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Native American Scholars Initiative (NASI) Summer Undergraduate Internship program.

The strongest applications will demonstrate a clear need to consult materials housed in the APS Library and will list which collections will be used during the fellowship term. Undergraduate Internships

Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Native American Scholars Initiative (NASI) Summer Undergraduate Internship

These paid 8-week internships provide three talented undergraduates with the opportunity to conduct research, to explore career possibilities in archives and special collections, and to learn about advanced training in Native American and Indigenous Studies and related fields. The internship will take place from mid-June to mid-August 2019. During this time students will work at the APS Library and will also have the opportunity to travel to Native communities to share their work. The stipend is between $3000 and $3500 (depending on housing costs), plus a travel allowance.

Dear Colleagues, Students, Alumni, and Friends,

The Futures Initiative Leadership Program provides up to twenty-five undergraduate students from any CUNY campus with opportunities to develop leadership and peer mentoring skills. Students will receive a stipend for their contribution as well as support for transportation and cultural enrichment activities.They will participate in a variety of professional development workshops and and opportunities designed to build community leadership skills and support success in school and beyond.

This year’s program will combine a one-day summer institute with regular opportunities to meet, reflect, gain new skills, and join in intellectual discussions at the Graduate Center, while also helping to provide resources, advice, and support to fellow students throughout the academic year. Students gain a variety of skills that will be beneficial for many careers that require collaboration, learning with and from others, building trust, and striving toward shared and common goals, and contribution to a larger public good.

CUNY Summer Undergraduate Research Program – Deadline Jan 31, 2016!

The CUNY Summer Undergraduate Research Program (CSURP) is a ten-week intensive research program that will run from June 6 – August 11, 2016 and is open to undergraduates completing their sophomore or junior year.  CUNY Community College students with at least 30 credits at the time of application are also encouraged to apply.  The program offers hands-on research with faculty mentorship to students interested in Environmental Science, Nanoscience, Neuroscience, Photonics, and Structural Biology. A $4,000 stipend, housing, and metro cards are available to successful applicants.

 

This year’s application process will end at January 31, 2016 at 11:59pm.  Students must complete the online application form, submit a personal statement, letter of recommendation, and transcripts, which can be found here: http://www.cuny.edu/research/sr/csurp/guidelines.html
