Mentor Responsibilities

As a faculty mentor you are guiding a student along a path that they may have little experience in walking.  To help you think through some logistics of mentoring, you might review some of the topics below.

1.  Setting standards/expectations for mentor and mentee

2.  Lending support and feedback to mentee about courses, research etc

3.  Frequent mentor-mentee communication

4.  Providing forum for research opportunities, conferences for mentee

The mentor-mentee partnership should foster:

1. Access to information and resources
2. Confidence in the mentee
3. Networking in the mentor’s field/discipline
4. Potential career pathways
