The Beauty of My Route

In New York what people usually tend to look for outside is how clean the area is and what are the special qualities that stick out that make that place so unique. In most cases people like to see a beautiful view. So people, like tourists tend to go to the main sites that are popular because of there nice views. People tend to see a beautiful view as a land of water, even a land of nature, or even can be building that can be concerned  a beautiful view. As well it can be where a sun rise is that can be concerned a beautiful view. Most place can have certain designs that are diverse where with that change makes it beautiful and one of a kind. What makes places so beautiful is that no place is designed or built the same exact way. Every place is unique in there own way and for that can make a place or even route beautiful.

The route that I took was a great walk. I got out of the Borough Hall train station where the 4,5,2,and R are at. Once I got out of the train station I made a left and headed towards the back of the court house. Then proceed towards Columbus Park where I then passed a beautiful fountain. Most mornings there’s a market that start at eight am to then end at two pm or even later then that. The market usually  has health vegetables and fruits. As well it’s an opportunity for makers to get there product out there for people to buy. The busiest time is at eight in the morning just for the fact that people are eager to what they need first hand while it’s fresh.  As most mornings that I do pass it I continue to walk through the market to the middle of the park. Where I notice that the seats are lined up in a straight line and something that really stand out is the fact that you are able to see the  Manhattan bridge.  As you continue walking you will then pass the Columbus Statue. Once you pass the Columbus Statue you then make a right where you  will then continue walking straight to the college.

The route I took was based on beauty and how everything is put together. The fact that once you walk this route and actually have the time to observe it. It does show the qualities of why it’s so beautiful.  Not only is the view beautiful but it can help people start off on a right track. Where the article “Why Is Morning Walk Necessary in Today’s Life Style?” it states “They should walk in fresh and pollution free air in the morning. It is not only good for fighting against acidity and digestion problems, but also provides Vitamin D.”  This tells that morning walks can help a person. So since I I take this route in the morning it means that I’m getting that fresh air every morning. As well the route I take is early in the morning and in the early afternoon. So know matter what I still get to see the fountain, the market still going on, the statue and the bridge. Compared to the night where it’s not the same. The fountain isn’t on, the market is already gone, you can barely see the statue but the back of the court house lights up and the bridge is light up which makes it still beautiful. Not as beautiful in the morning but the night and morning have there own beautiful qualities.

Beauty can bring many things such as happiness. Just by taking this route every day brings a smile to my face. The reason why it puts a smile on my face is because the way everything is put together and structured. Depending on what people like a certain place or route can make them happy because of how beautiful it is. For an example when it’s a sunny day and somebody is walking the first thing the see is flowers. Just by seeing flowers can make the happy and look around there surrounding to see all the beautiful flowers in the area. In the article “The Beauty-Happiness Connection” it states “Beauty tends to feel like something that must be found in special places—parks and museums, galleries and exotic cities… But finding beauty in normal activities can bring deep happiness to life”. What this means that beauty brings out a good thing in people’s lives. With what ever it is that makes that person happy it is because of the beauty that they have seen in during their morning walk or even just a place that they feel comfortable with. Another piece that shows how places can make somebody happy from beauty is from the same article that states “But the next three types of moments where people recorded the highest levels of happiness were all related to beauty: when at the theater, ballet, or a concert; at a museum or an art exhibit; and while doing an artistic activity (e.g. painting, fiction writing, sewing). Even sexually intimate moments could be argued to be rooted in beauty”. Which can bring back to my route on how with all the trees, the way the chairs are set up, the open space in the middle, the fountain near by back of the court which follows up on big steps that people can sit on. Last and not least the bridge is the one that stands out even more so. The reason why is because when you are seating on those steps eating your lunch the things you see is what makes that route so beautiful to walk. Where you see people moving and being active and the most is you see the bridge behind it all which bring everything together and defines beauty.

In conclusion the route I took stands out to be beautiful. As well I know people will be excited to  get the same feeling as I did. Not only does the route care beauty it also cares a lot of other unique characteristics that are very noticeable.

The Beauty of Quiet Nature

On a regular day, I usually take the A or C train to Jay Street and walk 10 minutes to The New York City College of Technology. However, my mind and body craved new things. Instead of a swarming train, surrounded by blue scaffoldings, people hustling to get to the Kings County Family Court, to class, and the smell of constant cigarettes. I wanted a change. I decided to take the 4 train and discover new things. I was looking for nature, quietness, a place that makes me happy and a place that makes me calm. I was looking for a detour through nature, which help uplift my mind and body that makes me feel good about myself. Therefore, I set out for new things.
I caught the 4 train on Eastern Parkway and got out at Borough Hall. As I exited the train the first thing I noticed, was the peak of the Manhattan Bridge in Dumbo. I could only remember my experience on the bridge as I smiled within. The sun shined down on the grey tiles, as the tiles shimmer reflected into my eyes. The beautiful trees with brown and yellow leaves creating a perfect fall day. The branches curved like an umbrella to shield the yellow shinning sun, the people below sat on the charcoal black bench enjoying the moment. My eyes then landed on the Henry Ward Beecher monument. He had on his fancy coat with his wavy hair as he stood erected. I began to feel better on my way to school. Looking around me, I noticed nature in its quiet beauty. I wanted to know if nature has such a big impact on anyone else besides me. I wanted to know why I felt more relaxed, calm, less stressed, able to function better, and create better ideas.
However, I stumbled upon an article entitled, “How Nature Can Make You Kinder, Happier, and More Creative,” by Jill Suttie. It explained how nature reduce stress which impacts our bodies. It states, “participants were assigned to walk through the forest or in an urban center while having their heart rate variability, heart rate, and blood pressure measured. Results showed that those that walked through the forest had lower heart rates, and higher heart rate variability…compared to those that walked in urban settings.” When this occurred, it caused stress levels to decrease. Although the mind and body were active it was still calm, because different parts of the brain were relaxed which did not require its muscle activity.
With less stress it causes better and positive moods. In the article, “How does Nature Impact Our Wellbeing,” by the University of Minnesota. The study shows that, “times in nature or scenes of nature are associated with positive mood, and psychological wellbeing…” In this case nature helps to balance and calm us which improve bad moods. This helps you to connect to people in a better way because you are taking time to relax, as the people around you do the same. Another, study proves that, “people who had trees and green space…has stronger feelings and unity with neighbors, being more concerned with helping support each other.” Nature also helps one to be more grounded and peaceful.
I also wondered why I felt less depressed. I felt refreshed, I felt good mentally, spiritually, physically. This boosted my energy levels, and I was more inspired to go to class compared to when I walked on Jay Street. Jill Suttie explained through experiments the reason why we felt less depressed in nature. She claims that, “waling in nature affects rumination- which has been associated with the onset of depression and anxiety.” The participants who were apart of the experiment were scanned before and after walks. It proved that, “those who walked through nature experienced less anxiety, rumination, and negative effects, as well as more positive emotions, comparison to urban walkers.” This proves that nature can reduce depression.
Therefore, we must preserve nature. Preserving nature is not only for human beings but for animals as well. Natural habitats are important because animals are a part of nature; hearing the brown, black and orange birds chirp before leaving for winter. Seeing the fluffy brown squirrels run back and forth playing and as some dig looking for food for winter. The colorful flowers attracting the yellow and black bees when it is warm outside. While the fresh and relaxing wind blow. This wonderful relaxing part of nature. According to the article, “Why Should We Take Care of Nature,” by Pawel Alva Nazaruk, states “nature is constantly changing…and humans are continuously adapting the planet to accommodate their needs through careless interaction with their surrounding environment.” This is true because as humans we litter which can affect our environment. We must stop water pollution, desertification, and deforestation. Or else we us humans will have to answer to The LORAX who speak for the trees. Replanting a plant that was chopped down is important.
However, in the articles I’ve presented proves why nature is important. It proves that nature reduces stress, depression, anxiety, sadness, bad moods. Therefore, environments all over the world should have Pedestrian Plazas to help soothe tough days. Nature can benefit our minds and bodies in so many great ways. So from now on I will be catching the 4 train on Eastern Parkway, getting out at Borough Hall, make a right onto Johnson Street, and a left on Jay Street to get to class on a daily basis.

Project 4 part 2

While you walk the route I choose, I want you to enjoy the view while you walk through it. As I walk pass the giant store once I got out of the train station, I love looking in, seeing the worker placing new fresh breakfast in the breakfast section. The steams from the food blurred the window but it did not block out the view in the inside. After walking pass the store, you’ll arrive at the road outside of NYU. No car, no honking, just you and the passengers next to you. You can be walking in the center of the little road or the side of it, but if you look carefully on the light polls, there are little decorations on it. Since its daylight, you probably wont notice or no one notice but those light lit up the road when nigh time falls. Christmas lights brighten up your way is such a romantic scene. Keep walking straight, there’s a little park between the stores and the second NYU building. Chairs, benches are located inside the park and also a mini play ground. Outside of the park, there’s a monument for guide dogs. The best season for a rest in the park is summer time. Sitting on the benches with your friends or yourself enjoying the summer breeze can be relaxing. Autumn season is a good season also, grab a cup of coffee from the nearest Starbucks, sit down at the park and read your favorite book. The route can be quiet and calm but also can be common and busy. This route are often the main route for people to get to class with, however the views make it very pleasant. The route has different views at night time, with all the Christmas light turn on. You’ll might be the only one walking through since night time fall, everyone return back to their house which brings peacefulness to it.

Project #4 Part 1

Using the Google’s Maps app, I was able to find a route where I can enjoy a nice walk, passing a small park. When I take the detour it will involve me taking a different train to school. The train would leave me at the Borough Hall station, then I would walk up Cadman Plaza W. Here I would have a good view of the Korean War Veteran Park. Normally I would take the fastest route to the school which would be the 7 train to the F train (about 45 min). If I take the alternate rout to enjoy the peaceful walk through the park, I would have to give my self an additional 15 minutes of traveling time infer to enjoy the walk to school.
