Advice for future students

Get ready to explore the great opportunities that you will observe in Brooklyn. I know when you hear about Brooklyn, it may seem boring. but it really isn’t. You can find so many interesting things. There are tons of sight-seeing adventures you can go with your families and friends. Unlike Queens or Bronx there aren’t much places you get to see. So why not visit Brooklyn. You will get a lot research that you guys have to work on. Both of these classes Effective Speaking and English 1101 (Prof. Davis & Prof. Rosen) are great classes. You will have the most amazing time within these two classes. In English, you will get to learn sources, summaries, and how to interpret essays. I mean hey its college might as well get used to it. The one thing I recommend you guys to do is when you get projects you guys should start it the first day because there are outlines and drafts that are due within a day or so earlier after the due date. One great experience I had was when our whole class went on the Walking Tour around City Tech. It was really fun and amazing. Professors took you to the places where you have never been to before. For effective speaking, you will get over the fear of talking in front of a group of people. You will have to do a few speeches that is part of the course and theirs only 2 exams. This class was pretty fun and interesting. the speeches were actually a motivation for us to do better and get over our fear. I mean I did it, but I still need to improve a little bit more. Good Luck and Enjoy!

Advice for Future Students

Get ready to know Brooklyn. Being in Brooklyn does exactly what it sounds like. You become aware of the interesting places that you would not find in places such as Queens or the Bronx. You become a researcher and your job is research about certain locations in Brooklyn, then, you are given written assignments that have to do with your findings. It is a great class, both Prof. Rosen’s English 1101 and Prof. Davis Effective Speaking. In English, you learn about primary sources, how to effectively write a summaries, essays, and more. Its the introduction to all of the college papers you will writing for the next four years. Hey, it’s college. The only time it can get overwhelming is if you procrastinate and leave all the projects to the last minute. One ideal thing to do, is to start the project on the day it is given to you because the first task is usually an outline or draft. Once that is out of the way, you have a foundation to build from. Otherwise, you’re stuck wondering how to you’re ever going begin doing the project. One of the most memorable experience I had, was going to look for a juxtaposition of an area in Brooklyn. With that, I found Dumbo, which later introduced me to Brooklyn Heights and later Bargemusic. Each location takes you to a new location. There is always some place to go in Brooklyn. As for effective speaking, you’re going to have to let go of the fear of talking in front of a group. I know  I had to. I actually still have to but not as a lot. Prof. Davis is one cool cat. He will explain everything with detail and of course you will have to do your part and study for  his tests. The speeches are interesting and this class does prepare you for future situation where you would have give a speech. Good Luck and be prepared!

Letter Of Advise

Dear upcoming freshmen,

When entering college a person does not know what to expect, and I am sure there were teachers in high school who told you that college is nothing like high school and they were right. Please believe me when I say that college will not be your worse enemy but rather the deadlines of the assignments, and the reason why I saw this is because when a teacher told me that I had a week to do a project I tended to just slack off and keep telling myself that I would do it at the last minute, and most of the time I ended up doing a poor job at it and sometimes I did not even do it at all. I would like to recommend that if you do not know the surroundings of where the New York City College Of Technology is located in, then it would be a good idea to explore the area since that will be your second project in the English 1101 class and it will probably be the most important project of the entire semester. The reason I am placing such an importance to this project is because this project is not only going to be used for the rest of the semester in the English 1101 class but it is also going to be used in the Effective Speaking class since both of those classes are going to cooperate between each other. Another thing I would like to recommend is that you whenever you have the chance try to practice writing summaries since you are going to be expected to do a few of those, another reason why I am saying this is because the exams are going to be based on writing summaries on the articles that are given to you. Having said all of that I wish you all good luck and remember to take college seriously.

Summary Of Project #4

The New York Transit Museum. For some people it is a museum, for others it can mean more than that. Court St was a train station that was located close to Borough Hall and Jay St Metro Tech, the station also had connections to other trains that went into Manhattan just like like Borough Hall, Jay St Metro Tech. Due to those other stations being placed into the convenience of the public Court St did not really had much ridership and was forced to close down, this occurred on June 1946. After being abandoned for years, the transit authority came up with the bright idea of using the Court St station has an exhibition, the exhibition consisted of showing the history of the public transportation such as buses and trains.  While the exhibition was meant to be temporary it has still continued until present day due to the increase in popularity among the people and tourists alike. With this information in mind I proceeded to pick two articles, one article was written by Edward Rothstein and in this article he describes the things that can be found on the museum. The other article was written by Melissa Noble and in this article she explains her point of view on the museum which mainly consists of facts ratter than describing the stuff that can be found on the museum.

Posterity

Noun:

People in the future, all future generations

” We cannot celebrate his memory the way a posterity ought to, by acknowledging a debt we’re called upon to honor, and so we want to celebrate his memory by confessing to a bankruptcy that dishonors us”

I now understand that that the people from the future should acknowledge his memory by accepting or confessing to a bankruptcy that may dishonor them.

Library session

On October 2 , 2013 our class went to the library, while in the library we were welcomed by a librarian who kindly showed us the important places to consider when visiting the library. When the librarian finished she took us to the second floor, while in the second floor we were taken to a room full with computers and there is where our lesson began. Wednesday’s lesson consisted of learning how to do better research and how to find books both electronically and actual copies of a actual book, at first we we given copies of two actual documents and we were told to examine which one was more credible, after that we proceeded to do some research online and we were told to try to find credible sources on the topic ” Brooklyn Theater fire” which turned out to be pretty difficult not only for us but for the librarian has well since it was pretty hard to find any information about the actual fire, I believe it is was a great experience and I learned how to be a better researcher, not only that but I also gained something called patience, I would definitely go again in case I need any help or want to find resources for a project.
