In the essay ” The Dentist” taken from The Things They Carried by Tim O’ Brien he states ” she’ll explain how she cant understand  why people want to wallow in all the blood and gore.”

Now that I know the meaning I know the author meant that the lady couldn’t understand why people want to stay in that depression without making any effort to get past it.

Swirl

Swirl: Verb

Definition:  to move in circles or to cause (something) to move in circles

in the essay ” The Dentist” taken from The Things They Carried by Tim O’ Brien the author mentions the word swirl. “There is no clarity, everything swirls.”

now that I know the meaning of this word I understand that he felt like everything was going in circles because he was dizzy.

 

Fallacy

Fallacy: Noun

Definition:  a wrong belief : a false or mistaken idea.

I encountered this word while I was in class in professor Davis class. He was teaching the different fallacies there is in public speaking.

Now that I understand what a fallacy is I know that while giving a speech you should avoid fallacies which means to avoid giving your audience a mistaken idea.

Veritable

Veritable: Adjective

Definition: True or real.

I encountered this word on the article ” The Happiest and Saddest Places in NYC, According to Tweeter ” by Brian Merchant. He stated ” it is the city’s veritable epicenter”

now that I understand the word I know the author meant that it was the city’s true epicenter.

Misanthrope

Misanthrope: Noun

Definition: a person who does not like other people

In the article ” The Happiest and Saddest Places in NYC, According to Tweeter” by Brian Merchant he states ” I can attest that each is capable of turning the gentlest romantic into a misanthrope.”

Now that I understand the word I know the sentences was trying to tell me that even the most lovable person can turn into a antisocial person while visiting those places.

Reign

Reign: Noun

Definition: the period of time during which someone or something is the best or the most important, powerful, etc.

Now that I know the meaning of this word I know that they created a map that was able to tell them where the greatest angry people where.

Posterity

Noun:

People in the future, all future generations

I now understand that that the people from the future should acknowledge his memory by accepting or confessing to a bankruptcy that may dishonor them.

Defenestrated

Verb:

To throw out of a window

“I once defenestrated a guy. The cops got all pissed off at me. I was drunk, but they said that was no excuse.”

I now understand that the man threw a guy out of the window and that is why the cops where pissed at him.
