A walk in New York City

It was one of the day when I was sitting in my room and my dad walked up to me telling me that we were migrating from India to New York . I was pretty happy and excited about the decision made. Finally the day came on Sep 10, 2010 when i came to New York. I have a heard and seen a lot of things about New York. As soon as I come out of the airport I see beautiful cars, gigantic buildings and a complete different atmosphere which I can’t even express. It was quite astonishing at the beginning. As the car moved we got closer to the bridge where i could picture a magnificent view of Manhattan. Peeping out the windows at the beautiful stores, skyscrapers and the crowd walking that was all me. I just wanted to step out and have a walk but i could not because I did not have any idea of the city. Watching people walking in a rush gave me a feeling that life is busy in New York and the saying looks somewhat true that New York city never sleeps. At the same time it also inspired me that there is lot of opportunities if you are willing to do the hard work. Finally we reached home where i see cars parked in a manner, garbage which is arranged properly. All these things told me how well organized was New York city.

A Walk In New York

The last time I had a good walk was last week September 19th, it was a Thursday. Sitting in the library bored and overwhelmed with stress from doing homework I decided to call one of my best friends. We came up with the idea to take a stroll on 86th street until we found something good to eat.

We started from the number 4 train station where we decided meet up at. As soon as we stepped out of the train station on 86th street you can feel busy city vibe from the vibrations of the pavement. You could here the music coming from the H&M clothing store as soon as you walked passed it then my stomach started rumbling. The delicious smells of burgers and fries was flowing through the air made me crave as we walked further down 86th street going 2nd Ave. Then that hunger when we came to a construction site on 2nd Ave, all you could smell was metal and gases. We made a right on that corner passing pizza shops where you saw what looked a like a rush our because people were flowing in and out so fast. But my friend said she wasn’t in the mood for pizza, I started to think she was purposely passing these restaurants just to spite me. There was a place where adults went for drinks, the outside appeared to be vintage and you smell the alcohol though the wooden doors. We finally came to a stop on 2nd Ave and 82nd Street where we encountered the most delicious burgers I had in my life at a place called BurgerFi. Right next door was the place that made us feel young again. 16 Handles, a ice cream shop, it had a kiddie atmosphere. After that stroll in the city my day was complete.

A walk in New York City

In the summer of 2011 my family and me decided to go to Manhattan to go to the museum. I had went to this museum a lot of times in my school trips but never with my family before. We had no idea how to get there and we ended up walking a lot! It was a long walk but it was totally worth it. It was worth it because like the city is filled with a lot of  attractions so we got to see interesting places. For example, we went to central park and it was enormous! but very beautiful. we also went in the zoo that the park had and it was very entertaining watching all the different animals they had there. when we got to the museum we saw a lot and learned some fun facts as well. We went in the globe to see how the universe was created in 3D and it was pretty impressive. Even thought I had seen it everything of the museum all before I felt it was all new to me because I shared it all with my family.

The long walk to the museum was a awesome experience because even if you walked for hours if there’s interesting things around you that you getting to see it makes the walk less tiring than what it really is. I’ve lived in New York city for long now but I really hadn’t seen the city much until that day that we got lost.

Assignment 1

I am Ryan Yip. My hobbies include videogames, anime, and video editing. I have been absent in the anime community, but I do watch some on occasion. I play games on both console and PC, but I do not own an xbox. I prefer console gaming because a controller feels more comfortable than a keyboard and mouse. I also record some games I play and post them on youtube. I do a lot of video editing to make the best video that I can produce at my skill level. On youtube I am known as LeafsShadow. My youtube channel is filled with videos that I did just for the fun of it. I treat it as a hobby, because I don’t want to take youtube of all things seriously. Here you can watch me play videogames with commentary. At the moment I am making videos with a Pokemon Colosseum commentary walkthrough (yes that is how they spelled it in the title of the game) and Vindictus videos that I do on public games. I am very new to making youtube content, but it is a new experience for me and I like it. I upload videos when I have a video to upload. I honestly hate taking things seriously. That’s why I hate playing “Call of Duty” and other games that people take seriously. I like games where I can mess around and do what I think is fun.

My avatar is my character on Maple Story.  I could not find a picture of my character because I uninstalled the game, but I managed to find a close match to use as my avatar. He is an archer from a town called Henesys on Maple Island. He uses a bow and arrows as his weapon to hunt and go on adventures with. He becomes high maintenance after you realize that the price of arrows are fairly high and how they are a necessity to his attacks, but that becomes irrelevant later in the game, because enemies start dropping arrows around the mid-game.

I chose him because he is a character I have built in the Maple world. I have put time and effort made him to be great character. There’s no one better to represent me then a character I made.  He enjoys adventuring, but hates being around other people. He tries to make to sell anything he comes across in his adventures including mushroom caps and whatever else he can get from the local wildlife. He is a skilled archer that can apparently cause an arrow to pierce threw enemies hitting multiple targets for no apparent reason. He uses this rather often and shoots indiscriminately. He does all of these things because I control him as a player and make decisions for him.

The profile I made is to represent me while I work on the OpenLab. When people view me using OpenLab they will know me by my profile. This is how other people will see me on OpenLab. I’ve used a character that is different from my peers. He is a character that I have built and I am proud of the resulting character. My character should be the one to represent me on the OpenLab.

A Walk In New York City

Since I was born and raised here I have been to numerous places in New York. One of my favorite places was walking around Central Park. At Central Park we walked around a lot for a good 4-5 hours and looked around to see all these activities that you can do. For example boating, fishing, etc. You also can have a mini family picnic as well. We took a lot of pictures in different parts of the park. At one of part of the park their are rocks which you can climb up and see the huge buildings. I was looking up and it seemed like i was about to fall down but luckily i didn’t. After the long day we went to get gyro from 5th ave. Their was a huge line but we managed to stand their because it was the yummiest gyro ever plus we were hungry. I recommend you guys to go to the park with family or friends because that way you guys could see the beautiful nature and spend a good quality time and make each moment memorable.

Group B “City Limits”

The story “City Limits” written by Colson Whitehead is about a guy that observes the city of New York, he explains the amazing city that he saw and that makes other cities seem very weak next to New York City. It’s a great place because when you live here there are lots of opportunities like awesome schools and amazing jobs. Everyone has their own city, based on their memories and those memories create many different “New York Cities.” Many remember New York City with old buildings and those buildings might not exist anymore but to the person who saw them, they still are there. Everyone has a different prospective of New York, everyone experienced it in a difficult way. With Colson’s description of a New Yorker is no wonder that towards the end of the reading he starts to say that once you are a inside New York you will not want to live anywhere else.

Walking New York

Walking, an act that we do everyday without a second thought. We go to and fro, and return from whence we came. We use it to reach a location of importance to us, the act itself loses all meaning. What does walking matter, when all we try to do is reach our goal faster. It becomes a routine, one route that you take everyday. Nothing new to see or interact with, especially when half  the journey happens underground. However, it was not always that way, there was a time when the map of the city was blank, when the towers off in the distance seemed unreachable with the current means of walking, when the light beamed of the thundering trains above the streets.

Over the years I have been in many places within Brooklyn, Manhattan and Staten Island. At first, it was mainly in Brooklyn, walking by the bay near the Verrazano bridge, then under it and past it. Then there was the time I rode my bike all the way down to the Owls Head pier, that was the plan anyway. The bike was designed for more off road and rough Terrain, so it was heavy, had wide tires and, most important, a tight transmission and belt. All that  lead to near exhaustion and loss of speed, and when bikes loose speed they start winding because you are still paddling and exerting force in different directions and times. This led to the wheel hitting a high curb and destroyed the front wheel which sent me flying forward rolling and the bike landing on most of my body. No idea how I did not have a concussion or major injures after that. However, I most likely would not be aware if I had a concussion at the time. This brings the story to the long walk by the bay and under and past the bridge with me carrying the bike on my back all the way home.

However, on the way there I enjoyed the bay, which I had not stopped to look at for a while since I would usually ride past it on the bike.  Then there were the geese stayed on the grass and the seagulls overhead. The sun was also out and was heating the aluminum frame of the bike. Oh, well it was good exercise and it was only Saturday. Once I fixed the wheel that night I knew I would be out there tomorrow, but going much faster to keep up with my father`s light wight, thin wheeled European racing bike. Now all I needed was for my wheel to stop losing air and everything should go fine.

That was the plan.

A Walk In New York City

On the day of June 9th, 2013 i decided to spend time with a close friend of mine. I had no idea what we were about to do that day. It was something i had never done in my entire life living in New York City. I took the longest walk without any public transportation on this day which is difficult because public transportation is one of the most useful things this city has to offer. We began our day on West 4 street in Manhattan looking for a specific park known as Washington Square Park. We strolled through the park in search of its main attraction, the fountain and huge monument in the middle of the park. Later on, we left the park in need to kill time but still enjoy the beautiful and intriguing weather the city offers during this time of year. We walked and walked until we reached Hudson River Park near 10th avenue.

Later on from Pier 40, we made our way blindly through this huge city until we couldn’t walk anymore. We ended up in West 81st Street Columbus Avenue. On this journey we witnessed various things on this walk varying from the nice view of the river, the statue of liberty, and people playing basketball and tennis. These were views that i wasn’t really used to being that most of my life was spent trapped in box inside the Bronx. I never got out to experience what the city had to offer, never really enjoyed a nice walk that began with no final destination or goal. It was something that could take me anywhere and yet i did not care that i didn’t know where this would lead me to. The experience of just viewing and enjoying the beautiful views this city had to offer that was until now hidden from me by my own choices, really made me realize how fortunate i was to live in such a place.

Speech Class Summary 9/23/13

On 9/23/13 we were given a topic which was the “Importance of Good Hygiene” and we had to construct a speech to target the audience we were assigned. We were allowed 7 minutes to prepare for the speech and Prof. Davis has written down comments on our evalution sheets. We will get these sheets back tomorrow to see what we need to work on as a public speaker.

A Walk in New York City

Well since I’m born here I have seen many place’s in New York but one of my memorable moments is when I went to Times Square and Rockefeller Center at night with my sister and my aunt. It was like a dream come true for me. I always use to go in the mornings but at night its very beautiful. It was Christmas time so we went to see the tree lit up. I remember taking the F train to 47-50 street Rockefeller Center. It was very cold. There were so many people that it took us about 20 minutes to reach the area where the tree was. The tree was big and very beautiful. We took pictures and then headed toward Times Square. When we reached I was amazed by the beauty of it. After taking pictures there also we ate McDonald’s and then headed for home. I would recommend everyone to go check it out at night instead of the morning. New York City really is so fascinating that I don’t feel like going anywhere else.
