Project #1 : Introducing Yourself

My name is Gerald Palmieri and I am striving to become a mogul in the business world. I attended CSI high school for international studies where I took a finance class that sparked my sudden interest in the stock market, business, as well as accounting. As well as this I like to play and watch sports as well as attend sporting events. Football is my favorite sport to watch as the excitement and action of it gets my blood flowing. I work at a restaurant called the West Shore in Staten Island which is also where I reside. I have three siblings, two sisters and one brother. All and all I am very satisfied with my life thus far and hope to continue to reach for success at City Tech.

My avatar seems pretty blunt but to me it means a lot. My avatar is a simple sunset with a lighthouse in the back round. I am going for the typical college look for I am trying to be a mature person in college. I wouldn’t say I was a reckless person but I tend to be very lazy and do not get top priorities done until the last minute as you can see from the lateness of this post. However, when I do finish my work on time or even earlier it is top notch and considerably good. Besides the point, I am trying to be typical but be my own person at the same time. That is the vibe I am trying to portray with my avatar.

Like any picture, it can be worth a thousand words or thoughts. My avatar also can convey that theory as some people might get that wrong idea. Some people that my avatar is blank which can indicate that my major is undecided and I don’t know what I want to with my life yet. It could also indicate that my life is filled with happiness and that everything is going smoothly so far in college. Whatever the case may be, I hope to meet new people and have a good college experience and that is exactly is what I think of when I look at my avatar.

For my profile, I hope it branches out the message to fellow students at City Tech that I am willing to meet new people. A lot of the reason of why I was so eager to attend college was not just to begin my life and whole new education, but was to meet new people. I always love making new friends with similar interests. I believe that goes for anyone making a profile. If you are writing a bio about yourself that will be viewed among people, then you want to be honest and clear about yourself. A profile can be interpreted as a first impression too because first time visitors to your profile could be interested in what they read about you. They could have similar interests and could want to meet up in school. That is how potential great friendships begin. A profile must also be professional too because you never know who can be looking whether it is a future employer or even a college. Generally a profile is a small excerpt of who you are.

My name is Alex S. and I was born in Ukraine. However, I only lived there for a very brief amount of time, in comparison to the rest of my life in the USA. Therefore, I can speak two languages, but only read and write with one. Nevertheless, I wish to learn how to do so with the second. When I first stared school,  I had a very difficult time with English, mainly because no one told me what it is. I knew that in the morning I had to write something in the first two lines of my notebook, but I had no idea what. So I would write random letters and numbers that I saw around the room on the walls. I did so with the hope that one would be right, or just to show that I was trying. I have actually forgotten how I first started to write or speak other than one day I was able to do so. However, I am still plagued by spelling mistakes. From there I moved on to junior high, those were a long three years, followed by 4 fast years at  High School. Now I am on the road of a Mechanical Engineering Technology major.

The Avatar I chose is the Iron Man mark II armor. Many people do not think of this as Iron Man when asked  what he looks like. Most people say that it is a suit of armor that is gold and hot rod red. This, of course, is true, however the red gold would not be here without the silver and titanium alloy. Also, the Mark II has more character than the Mark III by not being as flashy (even thought it has a high gloss silver finish that reflects more light than gold) and by its rougher industrial look with many bolts, visible sections of separate plates. It is also the armor that was used to test the flight capabilities of the series of armors, revealing the major icing problem at high altitudes. Which was used later when the design was copied and used against the Mark III (Gold and red). So the Mark II  was the start of the Iron Man line and was the reason for it’s improvement. I like improving something to the point of perfection and even further that, start something else based on the success that came before. Continuing is often as hard as starting. The reasons for both are the same, what do you do now? Where to head to or stay away from? How to not repeat yourself? What new thing is out there? Will this even work? The Mark II was the answer for Tony Stark and now for me.

It is a wonderful feat of engineering in many fields and the most wonderful was the expanded flight capability of the armor. It reminds me of Daedalus who crated wings to escape the tower back in ancient Greece. Flight without a bulky, needy, limited aircraft is simply wonderful. It is the difference between looking at the sky from the ground through a window and being in the sky high above with nothing to separate you from the experience of it all. It was a dream of mine to join the Air Force, to fly in plains that can achieve great heights and speeds. However, in gaining one freedom I would surrender many others. Iron Man dose not have that double edge, it is complete freedom.

The Iron Man Armor. Is it a weapon? or a Shield? or a Shell? In the pursuit of peace and justice do we turn to war machines and violence? This question come up when people discuss the Armor. An armor that does not exist. The imaginary worlds created by skilled filmmakers and writers create vivid worlds that we can see. They often have meaning outside their own in ours. So by choosing the Armor as my Avatar am I hiding behind it to avoid exposure or am I showing aggression by showing such a menacing figure that has very little human features and looks like it wants to hunt you down. These are the reacts I foresee with my choice of avatar.

Hello, My name is Christian Arpino. I have recently graduated from St. Edmund Preparatory High School in Brooklyn, NY. Coming to city tech is a very new experience for me. The high school I went to was very small. (No more than 600 kids) The school is a little intimidating to say the least. I have chosen to study Computer Systems Technology while I’m at city tech because I have been very interested in computers and software my entire life. I would consider myself an introverted person in the fact that I enjoy time to myself. Whether it be listening to music or playing video games. I have a very close knit group of friends from high school, but I hope to make more during my time at city tech.

The avatar in my profile is a picture of Saiga Tatsumi and he is the main character of Speed Grapher one of my favorite manga/animes. When I was growing up my uncle read a lot of manga and watched a lot of anime and one of the first manga books he gave me to read was Speed Grapher. I think this picture represents my love of Japanese animation in general. I mean there are more Anime series that I like but this picture represents to me at least my first exposure to the genre. Another reason I chose this picture is because I think it looks really cool in the fact that it really doesn’t say much at all. It makes someone wonder about who exactly this guy is.

How I think my avatar pic can be misinterpreted is that people see this person and they think maybe I’m doing something in animation or drawing. Another reason I think some one could misinterpret this picture is that maybe they think I am not an organized person. I mean in the picture his hair isn’t really kept that neat and he has a little goatee, it makes him look a little rough around the edges. I also think that my picture can be misinterpreted in the fact that I may be older because people might look at the man in my avatar pic and think that I am older.

I think my profile would convey that I’m a interesting person at the very least. I mean I think I like a lot of things that not a lot of people like and maybe find a little weird, and I think my profile conveys that message. I also think that my profile conveys that I’m a college freshman just trying to find his way through everything. My profile conveys me as a person in the fact that it includes everything that I like and enjoy. My profile also conveys my personality because there is not a lot said in it and that’s usually how I am in general in the fact that I don’t really talk that much and like to keep to myself. I think all of this matters because maybe this profile could influence the way people think of me as a person.

My name is Yin Yin Li, as you can see from my name, I am a Chinese immigrant. I recently graduated at High School Of Dual Language And Asian Studies on June, 2013. Right now, I am majoring in Accounting in New York City College of Technology. Many of friends study something they really like in their majors, and their future careers. And I choose Accounting major, because I like to manage the money,I believe a person who is well manage his or her money can manages his or her life well; and also this career does not need a public speaking. I am a shy person, and very bad at communication. Therefore, I do not have many friends outside the school. I kind of live in my own bubble, with my true friend who understand me.

The avatar in my profile is picture took two years ago, when my best friend and I, participated in the breast cancer walk. This picture represents the other side of me, which most of friends do not know. I am proud of volunteering in Downtown Hospital; because I can do something for my community, even though I am so tiny compare to the whole world. However, instead of putting the group picture, I love this one better, as I said: I live in my own bubble, with my best friend. Another reason I choose this picture because it shows I am special. From my facial expression, it can tell I am not the ordinary person, I do not like smile or say cheese, and sometime I do weird thing without any reason.

In my eyes, this avatar is special to me; however, I guess people who do not know me well will interpret this avatar differently. For example, people might think I like to hang out with friends a lot, or other outdoor activities, since I joined the Downtown Hospital Volunteer Department, I must done many interest things in the community. Even though I am volunteer, but that do not mean I like to hang out. Most of the time, I love to stay at home and read my manga online or watch the Japanese cartoon. I am a big fan of Japan. On my parents’ generation, people thought only good students wear glasses, but I can tell it is not true; I wear glasses, not because I spend lot of time on studying, but on reading manga. Therefore, do not think I am a good kid who works hard inside and outside school, I am not. In some way this avatar has some illusion that misleading people to somewhere else, but this avatar also is a mirror, reflecting other side of myself.

My profile will convey that I live in my own “bubble” and I also have many different personality; I am shy, quiet, weird and other mysterious things that only few people knew. Sometime I am a realist, for example, I study Accounting. I know I cannot be the actress or singer, because I have stage fright. However, sometime I can be dreamer, having wild thinking and day dream in my own “bubble”. This is matter to me because I do not want people know me about the skin deep, I want people come to my world and explore the real me. So come and dig more about me!
