Workshop: Using OpenLab for your Research Project
We’re at midsemester, and nearly at the midpoint of this semester’s workshops, thanks to the effort of the workshop leaders and organizers, and of course to the curious and lively student participants!
Next in the workshop schedule is Using OpenLab for your Research Project, led by Prof. Reitz and Prof. Rosen, from the OpenLab Team, who will support student researchers by showing how to communicate about and display research via OpenLab.
Register for Using OpenLab for Your Research Project and join online on Thursday, 10/24, 1:00-2:00PM.
If you haven’t already, you may want to take the time to sign up for an OpenLab account before the workshop so you can log in and get started!

Workshop: Presenting Yourself Online
If you are participating in an undergraduate research program, the Fall 2024 workshops is well underway. Students participating in an undergraduate research program have many workshop options to choose from throughout the semester–so undergraduate researchers, now is the time to sign up! And mentors, now is the time to encourage the student researchers you work with to sign up!
City Tech’s OpenLab Team invites all students to join them for a workshop on presenting yourself online, which focuses on how students can create and maintain a professional and/or academic online presence. The OpenLab team supports students developing a presence on their OpenLab sites during their academic career at City Tech and even into their job search post-graduation.
The session is on Thursday, October 17th, from 1:00-2:00 PM. Register for Presenting Yourself Online. See you soon!

Workshop: Research Types and Methods
What a great start to the workshops we’ve had so far!
Hopefully you had the chance to attend a workshop or two so far this semester. Now get ready to join Profs. Gregory, Kim, and Rahman for the next workshop of the Fall 2024 season, Research Types and Methods.
Before beginning your research project, you need to decide how to design a study. This panel discussion workshop will give you a brief overview of various types of research using field surveys, secondary data analysis, and laboratory experiments.
This session takes place on Tuesday, October 15th, from 1-2:00PM. Be sure to register for Research Types and Methods Panel and then join when it’s time!

Workshop: Being a Professional
Calling all Undergraduate Researchers! If you are participating in an undergraduate research program, be sure to check out the full list of Fall 2024 workshops and sign up for workshops starting this week with Wednesday’s workshop on Zotero for Undergraduate Researchers. This workshop, on Being a Professional, is a great opportunity not only for you as a researcher but also as you embark on or continue in your profession! Participating students will learn about professionalism and strategies to develop from varied perspectives.
You’re invited to join Profs. Davide and Walljasper for this workshop on developing professional skills. The session will be on Thursday, October 10th from 1:00-2:00PM via Zoom.
You’ll need to register in advance for this workshop–then just add it to your calendar and be sure to arrive when it’s time for the workshop (tip: one part of being a professional involves being punctual)!
The next workshop is coming up soon: the Research Types and Methods Panel on Tuesday, 10/15 at 1:00-2:00pm.

Workshop: Zotero for Undergraduate Researchers
Workshops for Undergraduate Researchers start this week, this time with a new workshop, Zotero for Undergraduate Researchers.
In this workshop, students will learn how to use Zotero, a powerful tool for formatting and managing references (citations), for their posters and other projects including reports, research papers, and presentations.
To prepare for the workshop, please download Zotero and create your account before the workshop.
Please register in advance for this workshop–then just add it to your calendar and be sure to arrive when it’s time for the workshop, Wednesday, October 9, 2024, 4-5:00pm.

Workshop: Advancing Library Research Techniques
As we pass the mid-semester mark, we’re also in the middle of the slate of workshops designed for you, Undergraduate Researchers!
You’re invited to join Prof. Prince and Prof. Berger from City Tech’s library for a workshop on Advancing Library Research Techniques, where you’ll learn how to use the library and Google Scholar to find sources for your poster and general strategies for the literature review.
This workshop is offered twice on Wednesday, March 27th, once in the library and once on Zoom:
- In person with Prof. Prince, 1:00-2:00 PM–This workshop will take place in L540, the Library E-classroom. Enter the library on the 4th Floor of the Library building, and go up to the classroom on the next floor.
- Online with Prof. Berger, 4:00-5:00 PM –You can register for the 4:00PM Advancing Library Research Techniques via Zoom.
