SALAM SECK MINI JOB SEARCH

SALAM SECK

The main position or qualification that I am looking for is to be an engineer with a master degree or Ph.D in electrical and telecommunications engineer. I am looking to work as an expertise or higher position on SMART GRID. I did not start looking for a job now because of my immigration status but I have an account with SMART GRID.gov since 2014. What I learned in citytech will be a lot helpful plus a master’s degree and a little experience from companies. These explanation on this particular job search was found in the website.

There are many IT Job listing online but I am going to focus only in one field called SMART GRID. http://www.indeed.com/q-Smart-Grid-Engineer-jobs.html

SMART GRID is an electricity supply network that uses digital communications technology to detect and react to local changes in usage. U.S. Department of Energy Office of Electricity and Energy Reliability (DOE) in partnership with the Grid Wise Alliance (GWA) facilitated the “Future of the Grid Evolving to Meet America’s Needs” initiative to develop an industry-driven vision of the future grid along with recommendations outlining an approach to achieve that vision. The initiative involved multiple stakeholders (a person with an interest or concern in something, especially a business) and took one year to complete. In that time, DOE and GWA hosted four regional workshops and a national summit with thought leaders from across the country that included utilities, regulators, state government officials, renewable energy providers, supplies and industry innovators. Discussions focused on necessary grid capabilities and functionality, the changing role of grid operators, the new technologies and financial models required to drive investment, and the policy and regulatory barriers to realizing the vision. I will be interested in Power System and Conversion Engineer – Senior Specialist.

Mini Job Search Draft _ Valerien Yepes

My main qualifications and strengths as a Graphic Designer is to distinguish the software. By applying my creative abilities I also learn to adapt it with the person I am today. Presently, interning at Made in NY Media Center and I am improving on my time management expertise in order to reach specific deadlines. In one day I am requested to have at least three techniques to execute a concept. In my opinion, this is an excellent way to learn how life is after college and use that knowledge for exceeding job opportunities.

I am pursuing a job as a graphic designer and saw that there are numerous places that are available. For example, IMG, a creative management agency. This is a business that contains many events and media. KORRES is another organization that I was viewing. They are looking for a freelance Graphic Designer that have great layout skills, creative services, as well as pays attention to detail. They are a brand of natural Greek skin, body, and hair products. Lastly, Consumer Media Network is another company that is hiring. This designer team in Seattle are producing industry specific high-quality content. They want someone who is quick thinking and innovative and shows a lot of passion and strength with visual features. Unfortunately, they also necessitate someone with a minimum of 2-4 years of design experience.
While I was searching for an occupation as a Graphic Designer I noticed that many areas required an online portfolio and a cover letter. But, I did repeatedly stumble into the conflict where many design companies asked for a minimum 2-4 years graphic design involvement as well as, requiring a Master’s Degree in Graphic Design. This is a dilemma for me due to the circumstance that I want to receive my Bachelors and then find a job. Alternatively, another situation are that many job requirements looked for someone who can code HTML and CSS. Considering now at this new information I know that Web design is a basic knowledge for me, and a weakness that I will have to improve.
Relevant job searches in several sites are employing for the title of Sr. Graphic Designer or Jr. Graphic Designer. Many goals of these organizations that interest me is that they want to re-brand or modify their appearance, which for me I find that entire process exhilarating. Many companies enquire exceptional time management and organization skills, which are aptitudes I acquire.
My professional goals are to continue working with a company for a long time and get to be able to work alongside a great teammate that shares my interests as well as imparts new knowledge. I would also like to work in a group-oriented community to grow professionally and receive critical feedback on my work. For now, I see myself working in an office space. I like the idea of having my own space to work and I also see myself working alongside other designers. I also love to travel, so if my job requires me to move I would definitely seize that opportunity.

I feel like my education at City Tech has somewhat prepared me to meet my employers’ needs. For example, in my Communication Design class we are always having a client and brainstorming concepts and ways to accomplish the ideas. We also taught how to work with teams as well as progress on our communicating skills. This is necessary for my future because in some jobs such as, a Junior Graphic Designer for a Corporate Communications team, they want an individual who is an excellent problem solver as well as someone who has an even greater ability to converse. They want and need people with a verbal skill set to have the confidence to report to a Creative Director. As well as, to speak in a larger group and be able to talk about what is trying to convey.

Surendra Khadka: Mini-Job Search

This June I’ll be graduating with Bachelor in Telecommunications Engineering Technology. I’m interested in finding job in wireless industry. For the technical side, I don’t have any other certifications beside this degree which I’ll get in near future. However, I have been working over past seven years in telecom industry. Currently, my position is Pricing Analyst for Angel Americas LLC located in Manhattan. I am proficient on Microsoft Office and Outlook. I do use other software customized for prepaid calling card industry. I am good at problem solving, analyzing situation and decision making, & taking responsibility. I can work with minimal support from supervisor. I have good communication skills both written and verbal.

Since I work for finance department and my education is Engineering, it seems finding a new job with equal or better pay is a tough road for me. After graduation, I do not want to go for entry-level jobs in engineering field. But, a little better-paying jobs requires a lot of experience (3-10 years) in related field. To be honest, this “Mini-Job Search” certainly does not make me feel good about the future. However, on the bright side, some of my skills and my understanding of Corporate America is transferable to a new job. Education here at CityTech has not prepared me to meet these employers’ need.

I was able to create fully functional web sites. In addition, I am taking Design Team this semester that the projects are given from real clients with specific deadline, criteria, and needs. So it is an experience to learn to work with clients instead of creating projects for yourself. Also, I am enrolling in the Cuny Corp program that it offers real jobs.

Melissa Bonnick – Mini Job Search

I would like to continue working in the advertising operations field specifically for online or digital. I have currently been working in the field for the past 10 years, starting as an ad trafficker and now leading a team of ad traffickers. I have a strong ability to multi-task as well as look analyze a campaign and confirm delivery / underdelivery or potential issues with an incoming project as well as find their solutions. I am versed in HTML, JavaScript, C++, XML, and the major ad serving technologies in the space. In terms of type of environment I am interested in working in, I think I would enjoy continuing to work in a start-up or small to mid-size company with a more relaxed than uptight atmosphere.

In order to work in this industry they are looking for html, Microsoft office, and other technical experience. The person needs to be organized and remain calm under pressure, as well as be able to articulate changes and push through the course of action. Javascript and XML is not required but a working knowledge of them is preferred. Finally they are also looking for people with a college level degree (masters is not required but a nice-to-have). I have seen different job types under the same umbrella of all different levels. There are specialist to VP level jobs with the following titles: Ad Operations, Campaign Manager, Revenue Ad Operations, Programmatic Partnerships, and Programmatic Operations.

Aaron McIntosh – Job Ads

After going over the results of my job search, I find that as a Web Developer, Html, CSS and Javascript are the most mentioned foundational skills employers are looking for.  Other prerequisite skills/experience vary wildly from employer to employer, but these three major areas are prominently included in just about every search result iv’e come across. Secondarily, MYSQL, PHP, Photoshop, UI/UX Design, and a few others are also typically included as required areas of expertise. This gives me a really good sense of the skills I need to be strong in as I seek to compete in this particular field.

After perusing my list of ads, iv’e actually walked away with a much greater understanding of just how complex and potentially intensive the field of Web Development actually is. And while many seem to be looking for anywhere from 3-5 years of practical industry experience in particular areas, many of these employers also seem to be willing to, and have the expectation of, training potential candidates in certain areas. This tells me that I should probably be prepared to learn a wealth of new skills while on the job, and i’m definitely fine with that. Academic instruction alone cannot possibly prepare me for EVERY area this exhaustive field is comprised of, and that’s OK.

My primary strengths are:

The creation of digital graphics using Photoshop and Illustrator.

Hand-drawn illustration/animation.

HTML coding.

Copywriting.

As far as professional goals are concerned, i’d really love to explore the world of web design, perhaps at some point even lending my talents and ideas towards some innovative and ground-breaking new ways of using the world wide web. I’d like to work within a progressive-minded organization with a collective push towards future possibilities of what the internet can be used for. Designing and maintaining websites is fun, but my ambitions go far beyond that. On a bit of a side note, Google immediately comes to mind, but iv’e heard my share of horror stories.

The types of results I run into are typically listed as: “Web Designer/Developer”, “Front-End Developer”, “Web PHP Programmer”, Web Project Manager with slight variations depending on the company’s primary focus(Ecommerce Web Developer, Java Developer, UX Designer/Manager, etc.)

I feel that my instruction here at City Tech has done and is continuing to do a solid job of preparing me for entry into my desired field, but I also get the sense that I of course I will have to do my fair share of DIY practice-work outside of class instruction. I use online resources such as W3schools.com and CodeAcademy, and I always try to set aside time to keep my skills strong and sharp. I feel that i’ll be a really strong candidate when it’s time to pound the pavement towards the next major step in my career.

Kurtis Wallace – Mini Job Search

My strengths as an employee are that I am a very trustworthy person and a very dedicated worker. Also I have good people skills and a lot of patience to deal with any issue that may come my way. Drawing is a skill that I have which I continue to develop every chance that I get. Animals and animated characters are two things that I enjoy drawing. As far as computer program skills go I have moderate experience with Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign and Adobe Illustrator. I am always willing to try a new program if given the chance. Currently I am seeking a career in the advertising / graphic design department. This type of career offers a lot of versatility which is what interests me the most. One day I hope to achieve my personal goal of having a design that I have created become known worldwide. Making designs for posters ,books and billboards is a strong interest of mine. Working in groups or individually are both fine with me.

My job search introduced  me to many different employers with similar things that they looked for in an employee. Most of the employers that I looked at wanted an employee who had a Bachelor’s degree and at least 1 or 2 years of experience. They also wanted someone who was experienced with the whole Adobe Creative Suite but specifically Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe InDesign. Two job titles I saw often were intern and junior graphic designer. My time at City Tech has helped me skill-wise. It was here that I was introduced to the Adobe programs which I use today. The school assignments that were given to me allowed me the chance to try out the different tools that were in some of the Adobe programs.
