Homework #2 Observations

Picture #2

1. Three females in the picture

2.They seem to be having a picnic

3.They look very well dressed

4. From the looking of there clothing you could say the picture was taken during the 1800’s

5. The picture isn’t clear like most photos are taken now a days, so you can say that the picture is old

6. The setting takes place outside by a lake, on a nice bright day

7. Since there are leaves on the grounds you can possibly say the season is fall

8. Everyone seems happy and satisfied

9. You can say that they were socializing

10. Since the mood of the picture brings positive feelings, you can say that during that time everyone was happy, relaxing, peaceful and enjoying there lives

  1. The image is taken in 1898,Afternoon because there is a glare probably caused by sun, the season seems to be fall.
  2. It is a urban area some city, black and white picture
  3. 9 women in the picture , 3 behind the counter and rest are probably customers.
  4. The store has  embroidery material.
  5. There are seats in the left of the picture.
  6. The photographer took the picture from the entrance of the store, probably took the picture to show how the women run the store.
  7. They are dressed the same and all are dressed formal and elegant.
  8. The facial expression are not clear but i think they are happy shopping or running a store.
  9. I think the purpose of the image is to show the massage that women can run a business too since this time were when women were not considered equal as men.

  • The picture was taken in the late 1800
  • Looks like it is a Spring season because they are wearing full sleeves shirt.
  • Day time
  • They are outdoor near the lake having a picnic.
  • The photo of the color is like vintage so its neither that old nor that recent.
  • They all have the same hat probably its religious or related to some culture.
  • Looks like they are enjoying their time. So there is something positive about the image.
  • We can’t see the whole image so may be other people in the park can be the audience.
  • I think it conveys a message of Women’s Right.

  • There are 3 woman enjoying their picnic.
  • Two of them are smiling looking at the camera and the other one is looking at them, which seems like they are having a really good time.
  • They look like they wealthy because they are wearing  a formal shirt and a tie, with a long black skirt. It makes me completely sure they are wealthy by observing their black hats with a feather on them. The hat makes them look fancy.
  • the picture looks like its taken in the afternoon. Probably because picnics are planned in the afternoon because in a picnic you eating lunch.
  • its taken in the year 1899. Therefore, it was in the progressive era when women started to stand out and “have a voice” in this country
  • its taken in a lake. The woman are sitting besides the lake on grass.
  • it looks like theres no buildings or houses just grass that expands everywhere surrounding the lake.
  • The photographer maybe was a journalist from the progressive era that took the photo to show how woman were   standing out and doing as they pleased with no containment.
  • The message in this photograph may be that little by little woman are gaining freedom in society.

  • appears to be day time because the lights are not turned on and there is a very strong glare coming from outside of the shop
  • 6 women are behind the counter and 3 are in front of it, I assume those 3 are customers
  • They’re all dressed very similarly
  • there are two seats at the left
  •  photographer appears to be taking this photo from the entrance
  • the purpose of this photo may be for advertisement for this store

  3. All three women are dressed like men from the waist up, with shirt and tie yet they’re wearing long skirts
  4. Each one is wearing a fancy hat, can represent middle or upper class
  5. Two are looking directly at the photographer while the other is looking at one of them
  6. One is eating yet smiling which can mean that she is enjoying herself
  7. Their’s a view of a nice lake in the back
  8. Leaves are on the floor, can mean it is during fall season
  9. This seems like it’s in the daytime
  10. The setting is outdoors, in a park/forest
  11. Picture is focused closely on these three women which mean we don’t know who else are with them or what the rest of the surroundings look like
  12. Reason for photo being taken can be to show the viewers how women can enjoy themselves outside of their home by themselves
  13. Can be related to human rights

-It seems like the 1890’s because the photograph looks old and its in black and white.

-Looks like a business in Brooklyn. It can be a department store or a wholesale store according to the items sold.

-A lot of employees work there. Its a lot of women working there more than male. Its strange because if it was in the 1890’s women didn’t work they were housewives.

-There is no colored people in the photograph.

-Variety of items are sold such as watches, jewelry, clothing and other goods.

– Majority of people that shop there are women because there are only women standing in line.

– It looks like its a prospering business because it has a lot of customers.

-The expensive items may be located in the glass case so it can be protected from being stolen or damaged.

– According to the people online they are dressed formal and elegant so probably only high class people shop there.

-The photograph looks like it was taken in front of the store from the door entrance.

-I believe the photograph is trying to show at the time Brooklyn was a good place to open a business because it was prospering and a lot of people shopped there.
