It’s been over a week since my arrival to the Disney College Program. The process of adjusting into a new state and new environment was easier than I expected. I do admit the life in Florida is on a slower pace than I was used to in New York. Speaking of New York, I was surprised to meet a lot of fellow college program students from New York such as Long Island or Upstate.
Being in the Disney College Program so far taught me how to be independent. Although there are resources to make our stay easier, we own the responsibility to get our priorities right at the end of the day. The first week of the program includes seminar then followed by our training orientation such as “The Tradition”.
Disney Traditions is an important seminar that introduce everything that we need to know about the Walt Disney Company from past, present and future. We as “cast members” are responsible for creating the magic alive while we are on “stage”. They emphasize on the four keys which are Safety, Courtesy, Show and Efficiency. These four keys were repeated numerous time throughout Traditions. It is important for the cast members of Walt Disney Company to follow these four keys to guide us through success. A success that this company had built on since the opening of Disneyland in California.
One of the four keys they emphasize the most is SAFETY, the company created a slogan “Safety Begins with Me”. This slogan can be seen almost everywhere at the backstage of each park where the cast members have access to.
The most rewarding part about Disney Traditions is a tour in the tunnel below Cinderella’s castle. I finally received my badge with my name and my college on it. Also, a blue card that work as a park’s Main Entrance and last but not least Mickey Mouse made a surprise guest appearance.
P.S. There is only one Mickey.
I’m so excited you are finally here to join me in this journey and I am jealous you were able to tour the tunnel below Cinderella’s castle, it was raining on the day of my traditions and we stayed inside. I was so happy we got to meet our boss, Mickey on the first day.
