Unlike other Disney roles that deal with a ton of customer service, Housekeeping is one of the many few roles here int his program where we have little to no guest interactions. We are usually isolated with no one to talk to and it gets rather lonely when no one is here to talk to us.
The program is now close to ending and how I keep the magic alive is by making towel animals and special touches when I am cleaning occupied rooms. I would sometimes write little notes in an occupied and comment about how beautiful their dress is or is that a toy minion? I love Despicable me! With that type of action I have decided to take, many of guests leave me extra tips and reply back with their own note.
Honestly, for some odd reason I really love doing the College Program because of the support and connections I make with my fellow housekeepers. Sometimes when I am done cleaning all 18 rooms, I would come walk to another building to help out fellow CP’s. And when I am behind, the CP’s in return would come and help me. With this ongoing hands on engagement, I am able to feel the personal warmth and support that makes me want to keep moving.
In the article “Why Do Employees Stay? A Qualitative Exploration of Employee Tenure” written by John T. Self and Ben Dewald, even though in the article they did a survey as to why employees stay definitely holds true to me. Some employees stay because they need the financial support. Others is basically the friends. I stayed at the college program because of the good friends I am making. Regardless of how hard housekeeping may be, it is the friends I make that holds me together.
