Disasters can happen at any time luckily while being here nothing has happened unlike in Barbra Haggins experience going through four hurricanes in one season. Disney is very fortunate to have the cast members they have because everyone is always taught to keep the “show”. No matter how bad the situation we have to keep the guest entertained like everything is normal. We are also not trained to handle emergency situations because our leaders are the ones who suppose to handle emergency situations because they have the experience and mentality to make sure guest and cast members are taken to safe locations if something were to happen. However, if a time came in my career where I were the one to take care of my cast and guest I would always remember that the guest experience comes first including my fellow cast members. Safety is a key factor not only for the guest but also for the cast because without the cast members we can not make the guest experience perfect.

On another note, disasters are not only man made. Working in the kitchen there are many situations that can cause a guest experience to become fatal. Our sous chefs and head chefs are the ones who handle our allergy plates because it is their responsibility to make sure that the guest are fed to their proper dietary exceptions. Even though something were to happen the fault would be theirs because they made the decision; however, when we are given the opportunity to handle an allergy plate we take the order with great care and responsibility. I am always told to handle allergy plates in my restaurant because we have almost to 30 allergy tickets. Most popular being gluten, dairy and fish. When given an allergy ticket we must make sure all variables are taken into consideration. We must change our gloves, clean our station, all food is fresh and make sure that we have new utensils because we do a lot of cross contamination. Allergy plates are big importance to any kitchen because one mistake can cause a shut down of a kitchen or even worst a death of a guest. So we must take every order seriously.

  1. You related the information in the article to a real life situation that is important at every step in the food production process. I am always impressed with the level in which Disney cast members pay attention to food allergies. It shows “Safety begins with me!”.
