Week 8

I noticed once again this week why Disney attracts so many from all corners of the world to become cast members and its definitely not because of the paycheck. This week at the Yacht and Beach Club, we had a massive group check in of nearly 600. The check in area needed to be extended to the convention center to meet the demands. Extra cast members were called in to drive luggage from the convention center to the baggage room at the correct property. Me and two others were doing this outside in the heat for 8 straight hours without a break. My coworker confronted our leader at the time as to why food or drinks were not provided to the employees since it was well known that no breaks would be taken throughout the day. I stayed out of it because I wasn’t sure if providing food was something that was usually done. Our leader then immediately apologized to us and went to order pizza and drinks for everyone who was working that day.

I was honestly not expecting our manager to be so swift in meeting the needs of his employees. It’s uncommon to find companies who actually listen to its hourly employees and to actually show such warmth as to feed us is uncommon in my experience.

  1. This was a great experience in many ways. Your leader provided you with a learning opportunity that supports the excellent guest service that Disney is known for. If you and your teammates were not well fed and well taken care of you would not be able to serve the guest in an appropriate manner.

The other opportunity was to understand the demands of a large group check in. Make sure to highlight this experience on your portfolio and on your resume.
