Sentimental & Motivational route

When you wake up, knowing that you have school, what gives you the drive to actually get up? Or maybe you don’t have that drive and your conscience seems to play mind games on you and your forced to go. Well whether you believe it or not, on our way to school there’s always something that could suddenly take place, something you see or something you could do to better your day. Maybe it’s choosing a route with a fetching view of vibrant leaves, sunny skies which might juxtapose the same energetic feelings to you on your way to your destination. The route that you take can also be silent, and you’re able to capture locations that held sentimental feelings, and valued parts of your new york. Not only that but it might be a not so appealing route that leads you to your favorite bacon egg and cheese and arizona that you’ve been craving for. And don’t be surprised if it’s just your favorite hip and r&b, reggae, jazz, or funk music that converts your whole mood because that’s possible as well.In my opinion, your mood will only change due to your interest and what’s significant to you, which is why I feel my route serves as a good example.
My typical traveling routine is to take the 3 and 4 train and get of at Borough Hall train station. I would then walk alongside Adam street, then to Brooklyn Blvd and enter in on adam street. When taking that route I wasn’t too content seeing the christopher columbus statue due to the fact that I don’t view him as a heroic figure. And even when I couldn’t see him, I was constantly reminded that I was walking through the columbus park which did not bring forth the best attitude in me.However for this project, I took a slightly different approach. Instead of walking down adam street, when I exit the train station I walked vertically towards the courthouse on cadman Plaza, a very special part of my new york.. And at that moment where I was reminded that the more knowledge I acquire, the more opportunities will be open for me. Not only that, but i’ll be reminded that my voice can now be heard. Im happily heading down tillary street now, with tears of joy rolling down my cheeks. I will now reach for my headphones and iphone and listen to some hip hop or rap music to release myself out of that sentimental mood before entering the assigned room in 300 jay street.
My mom as well as myself had recently became a citizen. Even though I wasn’t the one who took the test, I was extremely glad to know that I lend a helping hand by studying with her and using my prior knowledge to explain certain things to her. Walking by the courthouse gives me a sense of purpose. It gives me the motivation to not only get to school, but to also get their in a positive vibe. The better you feel the more productive the day will be. After all that’s the whole purpose of attending college or school in general.

Some might say that my persuading argument is a little too personal and one sided, in the sense that the courthouse holds a lot of different meetings, and might bring forth a lot of melancholy feelings for other individuals who might have been in trouble with the law. Well even though their not entirely wrong, the courthouse can still be seen as an inspiring area because it reminds you of what not to do, and why you must stay out of trouble. It can also remind you of some of the opportunities that or open for you that others wish they had.

overlapping with F21 & R&M

Overlapping is seen all over the world. When people see the term “Overlapping” they might think it relates only to extending over or partially covering an area. In this sense overlapping is being related to an and area that share similar responsibilities but have a variety of different ways to interact with the surroundings by seeing and doing things in a different perspective. For example; raymour and flanigan and forever 21 is (2) separate stores that share an entrance to the building and many overlaps can be seen, in terms of demographics.
The area that I chose is located on 490 fulton street. Even though there are two different stores they share the initial entrance and then part ways. When you enter the first door, some individuals take the escalator going downwards to the preferred store and others take the steps coming upwards. People of many different age groups enter these stores on a daily basis. Teenagers and younger people tend to visit forever 21 regularly, while older folks shop in raymour and flanigan. Approaching forever 21 can be a bit more crowded and loud rather than going towards raymour and flanigan.
As I turn the block to Fulton street heading home, the forever 21 writing on the building caught my eye. I couldn’t resist walking pass so I approached the doors. I now notice the sign saying raymour and flanigan.-Why are we here?.. “turn left to enter forever 21” , the sign says. The elder lady decides to take the escalator to the “old folks stores” while I head down the store that helps me to stay “forever young”. I see all different types of people in here. Some have Afros, curls, straight hair. Most of the hoppers are feelings but certainly not all. I rarely see the old folks in here, maybe this ain’t their thing. Most of the rich older folks might be buying new furniture’s and housing supplies, while people like me on the other hand, come only have a few dollars to buy a new cute outfit I need for the next day.
The overlapping is seen throughout the store. For example the different age groups of people, the amount of money they might have even though that’s visible, or simply the way in which they enter their location, by steps or by the escalator. Its still seen as overlapping because its something being done by different groups of people or individuals in a shared space.

When I Initially began doing my glossary entries, I didn’t have any issues. I would circle words on articles that we read in class and write down words that the professor used to later on define and become familiar with these words. However I began procrastinating when i would be submitting a entry due to all the work that i was to submit each day. Also in all honesty i started to think the way in which I was writing these entries was very repetitive and wouldn’t be as helpful to others. However i was able to define and become familiar with all 15 words. Even though some if them was done under he nick of time, I still believe that they’re useful and helpful to someone who might not know the definition.

amenity

Amenity – noun  ame·ni·ty  \ ə-ˈme-nə-tē , -ˈmē- \

Amenity – something that helps to provide comfort, convenience, or enjoyment.

” It’s not quite an essential amenity or legally required to open, but its nice.”

Using context clues in the above sentence, I thought the definition of the word amenity held the same meaning of the juxtapose word next to it “essential”. however seeing to it that their wasn’t the use of the word “or” or apostrophe or semi colon, to show that they held similar meanings, I thought it might have a different meaning. The word amenity Simply means something that’s not needed but bring comfort.

Loathe

Loathe- to dislike greatly and often with disgust or intolerance detest

verb  \ ˈlōt͟h \

I came across this word in NYTtimes article called: Coffee shops skip WiFi to encourage customers to actually talk. In the sentence that its written in you can easily assume the correct definition of the word which would be “dislike”. However out of curiosity I thought the definition might have been leaning somewhere else. In other words i thought i might also meant “depend”. After looking up the definition, i saw that the word loathe didn’t only mean dislike , but i was a strong dislike that leads to disgust. A useful synonym to remember the definition of this word would be despite.

Colloquial- used in or characteristic of familiar and informal conversation

  • In colloquial English, “kind of” is often used for “somewhat” or “rather.”

adjective  col·lo·qui·al  \ kə-ˈlō-kwē-əl \

This term was used previously in class. Its simple meaning is a when your use a conversational tone. For example, when your speaking to your friends and use words such as “yeah” or “wanna” instead of “yes” or ” want to”, is known as conversational tone. Colloquial tone is used in dialogue, in a informal way.

When therefore he, after the lapse of years, resumed his pen, the mannerism which he had contracted while he was in the constant habit of elaborate composition was less perceptible than formerly, and his diction frequently had a colloquial ease which it had formerly wanted.

Inevitable

Inevitable:  adjective  in·ev·i·ta·ble  \ i-ˈne-və-tə-bəl \,

Inevitable  -incapable of being avoided or evaded

  • “war was inevitable”

As I do with almost all new vocabulary words, I look for a root word within that new word, prefix or suffix. In this case i was fully aware that the “in” in inevitable meant not. I also looked at the suffix which is a word used everyday which is “able”. My definition of the word inevitable is “not able”. I researched the definition to look or the precise meaning which sums of my definition. In my own words inevitable means not able of being ignored.

wistful

Wistful- full of yearning or desire tinged with melancholy; also inspiring such yearning

adjective  wist·ful  \ ˈwist-fəl \

When I approach this word, I thought it meant sentimental or gloomy.  Even though that assumption isn’t entirely correct,it isn’t wholly accurate either.”You tried on selves and got rid of them, and this makes your old room look wistful: why must things change?” Feeling wistful can be related to having a craving or what the 21st century kids would call “feeling” for. It can be somewhat to my assumption of sentiment or gloomy, because craving for something might bring forth mixture those of emotions. Wistful is also related to feeling some sort of regret.

This word is located on the third page and paragraph of the article. “It saw you steeling yourself for the job interview, slowly walking home after the late date tripping over non existent impediments on the sidewalk”. When I initially saw the word, I didn’t have any firsthand idea of what it meant. After looking up the definition, I saw that it relates to doing something in a difficult situation.
