Project 4

The route I’m going to be covering is the route I take everyday to get to city tech. I Take the 7 express sometimes local train all the way to 74st if its local or if its express to 5 ave and I walk to the F. I get out at Jay street and metro tech. I walk up and I start my walk to school on the left side of the street I walk past by this building I don’t know what is it or for in front of this building there are benches to sit on that are circular around trees. Walking a little bit more down I see food carts such as Nathans halal food I believe and people selling things.Slowly after I past these things I hit the courthouse and then I cross the street and I hit city tech and go inside. On the way to school I only cross the street once and wait for one light. My walk isn’t interesting nor do I pay attention to my surroundings cause I’m caught up with my music blasting through my headphones or not I’m tired I just want to be in and out of school.

Brooklyn Bars

Project #3

New York City is one of the most diverse city in the united states  in my opinion . In New York you see buildings that look old and look new, neighborhoods that are this type of culture then another neighborhoods that is this type of culture. Restaurant that look brand new and have like a modern day type of menu and then restaurants that look old and have a old fashion menu and or are of this theme. You also will see bars, yes bars the place where you go have a fun time , make new friends, take some drinks chill out and enjoy life get messed up and hope you don’t wake up with the craziest hangover. Around Brooklyn near the area of Jay street and metro tech you will find a lot of bars most of different themes, some that are brand new to the area and some that have quite a history around this area.

Bars have been around for a long long long time period of time. They are a place where people go to watch games, hang out with friends, and Most importantly drink some alcohol from beer to shots to vodka etc. Some bars have different things than other some have a certain theme such as sport bars or restaurant and bars so you can eat and drink. In Brooklyn you will find bars in most parts. Each one of these bars are different than the other they have different themes, different type of architecture, as well as different type of formats. Some of these bars sell alcohol meanwhile others just sell strictly alcohol. Now I can’t say these bars each sell the same bottle or have different type of drinks because I’m 18 and I have a baby face so their not going to let me in.

Two bars that I found around the area where barcade and Pedro’s. Barcade opened in 2004 it is a mix between a bar and a arcade. And to be honest Barcade seems dope and I will most definitely try to get and play some video games meanwhile hopefully if I can get wasted. Now Pedro’s is a Mexican and Dominican Food restaurant that is also a bar. Each of these buildings are different Pedro’s looks more like a warehouse that has some graffiti on it meanwhile Barcade looks more like a garage mixed with a store. Barcade really has my attention more than Pedros. Meanwhile Pedro’s sells food and alcohol Barcade has video games machines that you would play back in the day in a arcade. That attracts my attention because I find video games interesting and find classical things assuming and things thats are from the past interesting I also like the idea of playing video games and drinking to be honest.

Barcade has its success off of it being a video game bar. Meanwhile Pedro’s is about there meals and drinks. They differ from other bars and restaurants around the Brooklyn area. Meanwhile Bars in Brooklyn now have that modern city type bar format both Pedro and Barcade have a unique type of style Pedro’s looks like your backyard with a balcony and tables with some umbrellas and graffiti over the building. Barcade looks like a garage base building its gray as well. I can’t really tell you much about these bars because I’m getting most of this information based off of pictures I’m of the age so I’m pretty positive they wouldn’t let me near any of these bars. But while I do walk around during my free time to get some food or kill some time I pass by these bar and some well most look like modern day city type bars and then there some that pop out like wow! This is different unique this looks dope.

Bars usually bring people together and Not all the time does the alcohol involve bringing people together. It is based on the energy the vibes the scenery the architecture and the theme that bring them together. I Have been to a bar not gonna mention how I got in or what the bar name is but what the bartender had to bring the customer together was playing playstation 4 together thats how we connected and yes we drank but we mainly connected by playing mortal kombat, call of duty zombies, And injustice. I also seen when I gone to watch basketball games in restaurant like buffalo wild wings the people by the bar connected by the sports team.

New York City is one of the most diverse cities in the United States. Not everything is the exact same and doesn’t have a meaning to it every building every corner every store to bar has a meaning to it. Just like Colton Whitehead said in his article “City Limits” when you pass by this and that building it makes you think of what it used to be to other they may see it as the building that it is now but to you, you see it as the building you before. Every part of the city has memory to it and meaning to it. Bar have meaning to them while some see them as thats the place imma get drunk tonight others see it as this is where I met so and so, here where I had my first drink. This bar is different from that bar the themes the stature and the environment. I chose bars because I have a great interest in them I want to be a bartender one day and hopefully open my own bar that is unique in everyday. Most of this project I was lost and confused and was like what am I gonna do and write about I didn’t understand it but towards the end I understood it.

Reasons for the area

The reason for why I chose this area where because one it was near the school I was tired honestly I didn’t feel like walking much and I had class in like 30 minutes I wasn’t trying to late. But I noticed a lot of things I don’t see around where I live I saw a high school that looked like a building where businesses would have there business location or where governments would have there buildings located. Around where I live high schools have like a small campus in front and they look like castles or mini buildings but this high school looked like a 6+ story building and it was a high school so it caught my interest. Also as I walked down the road I noticed nice hotels delis and bar and restaurants and it was dope like that whole road was just mixed it wasn’t just one certain thing it was a mixed of food places a high school and hotels. And before I turned back to school I saw a building that just said in big words bar and restaurant and it was like straight to the point it didn’t have a name like shenanigans or Big ales or Hooters or Buffalo wild wings It was just plain and simple Bar and restaurant and I found that dope cause not many places are that simple they go extra and come up with a name but this place was like simple bar & restaurant and I liked the location as well it was across the Manhattan building so like you have a great view. So yeah thats pretty much why I chose the area I did to explore.

Walk around brooklyn

My walk began right after class at like 10:55. I got out of the school and made a right turned and I passed the court house and walked down jay street and metro tech for about two block I noticed there where a lot of stores around and food carts. I noticed the Nathan’s cart I usually eat at whenever I’m in a rush and then the subway station I usually come and leave from. As I walked more down I noticed the pizza place I ate from once. Then I made a left turn into this  unfamiliar street I never been there or ate around there but there were so many stores like hawaii costume stores delis little places to grab food and eat so at the end of that block I made a left onto Lawrence street. Chipotle was on the left and five guys was on the right I haven’t ate at that chiptole much but I ate at five guys a lot so I went right and straight down myrtle ave. Once I reached the end of myrtle ave I turned left onto Flatbush ave. As I head down that road I noticed a lot of construction was going on and there was a gas station across the street. Heading more down I realized I wasn’t far from the Mattahan bridge and then I noticed a big building which was the Brooklyn international high school  and it didn’t look much like a high school cause from where I live high schools look like castles mansion type not like the way this one looked so I realized I was running out of time I walked more down almost to the beginning of the bridge I noticed this one building that said bar and restaurant and it looked very fancy so right before to get on the bridge I made a left turn down this street that had parking lots and then made around left to realize damn I’m not far school so I went back to school and made it just in time for English at 11:30

Colson Whitehead “City Limits”

Colson Whitehead claims New York City to be the best city and it makes every other hometown ,city, town, country look drab and tiny. In this article Colson’s talks about his passion towards New York City. He also describes how he views New York city. As well as his thoughts about and towards New York city. He talks about how people been here for a while get hit with flash blacks while walking down their block how that used to be and this used to be. He also says how New York has a bunch of history behind it Someone people see building this way while other call it this and other call it the way it is. He also speaks about how New York is also the place for opportunities.

Monuments are reminders of people successes and a tribute people who died or a memorial for people who died in tragedies or of our veterans who were in wars that we fought and war memories or buildings that are historical to that state or place .  In New York you’ll find monument in every part of the boroughs which are tributes /memories towards people who did something great passed away or were killed in a tragedy of war or a reminder of a war or building . Not everyone believes or agrees monuments should be out in public and should be put into museums I agree with that statement i believe they should be put into museums.

I believe monuments should be put into museums for many reasons one of them is because museums are where these type of things are usually and people actually go to look at them and learn stuff about our country. People no longer actually go to these memorial sites where monuments are located to learn about it  people just go now to take pictures where these monuments are and share them on social media to show their friends where they went not because they actually care. One example is the horse statue outside of central park  it has historic meaning to new york but people don’t really care about gaining knowledge about the statue. Meanwhile people go to a museum to learn about what this monument means what it signifies who it is a tribute to. Another reason is people sometime vandalize these monuments show it zero respect throw garbage around it do graffiti on it and it just desymbolizes what the monument means and was put up for. Therefore they should be in a museum where no one can vandalize them and these monuments are kept safe and aren’t desymbolized.

Also monuments should be kept put in museums because some may be considered disrespectful to people and remind people of things they don’t need to be reminded of. There are some things they just want to forget and just leave it behind them or offend people. Yeah they might have historical meanings but that doesn’t mean all historical monuments are of honor and joy. Meanwhile some bring painful flashback or are meant to still be around some just kind of should be placed indoors where people who actually want to see these monuments can see them not out in public where some people don’t want to see them or care to see them. Monuments nowadays are just devalued where no one cares about them or care as to why they are put up and for what they stand for.

Monuments are controversial people believe they should be taken down and gotten rid of meanwhile others believe they shouldn’t be destroyed and should be kept. It’s a debate that’s never ending and all it does it create big protest and a huge headache for the police department and the city because they need to make sure it doesn’t get out of hand or oversize. One example are the confederate monuments. According to the article “We need to move, not Destroy Confederate Monuments” ever since the Robert Lee confederate statue incident all around the world people have been looking for things that symbolize hate and could stir up problems.Robert Lee was a confederate soldier who fought in the civil war and had slaves and people at that time period viewed as a hero and believed slavery was alright we are now in a different era we no longer are believe in the things we believed in back then and don’t believe in slavery and to certain people they still respect and honor him but to certain other group they are disgusted by him and believe having this statue as a insult. Another example are tribute statue or paintings. Earlier this year during the Whitney Biennial a British Artist, Hannah Black, called for the destruction of a painting of the Martyred Emmett Till which was painted By Dana Schutz According to The article “We need to move, not Destroy Confederate Monuments” on the website Nytimes. Emmett till was a young African american killed by a group of white people because supposedly he harassed and made sexual advances towards a white lady and dumped off in a river to some people they can view this as a tribute to Emmett till but to others they made believe it is an insult to Emmett till. So to save the headache and end the debate might as put it in a museum where it’s not in public where people don’t want to see it but at least its not destroyed so that people who do believed it shouldn’t be destroyed or gotten rid of can still see it.

Now others believe they shouldn’t be placed in a museum and should be kept where they are and outside but why? We live in a different era nowadays not everyone cares about these monuments as much as people did back then. People nowadays are attached to their phones and  walk by them without noticing or caring about them. What they symbolize or mean so why not put them somewhere where people actually care about learning what they mean symbolize or the history about these monuments but hey that’s just my opinion…

Now others believe they shouldn’t be placed in a museum and should be kept where they are and outside but why? No one pays attention to them there probably like 10% of the population that cares about them and wants to go see them and wants to learn about them other than that people just go to them to take pictures to show they visited new york or because they had to do research on them for a paper so why not keep them in a museum where there are other monuments and people actually go to learn about these things and are interested in learning about them.

We live in a different era nowadays not everyone cares about these monuments as much as people did back then did people nowadays are attached to their phone walk by them without noticing or caring about them what they symbolize or mean so why not put them somewhere where people actually care about learning what they mean symbolize or the history about these monuments but hey that’s just my opinion…

Hi my name is Herson Mark Garcia and i’m currently a freshman at new york city college of technology. I graduated from flushing high school i wasn’t really the best student in high school i didn’t take school seriously i thought it was all a complete waste of time they weren’t teaching us things that would benefit us or we would need later on in life and they kept us there for an unnecessary amount of hours. I used to play football during my sophomore year and my freshman year i loved playing football but my injuries kept me off the field and after my sophomore year i decided to walk away which is something i still regret till this day. I am a very creative, imaginative person and i happen to space out a lot and get stuck in my own world i’m super friendly often told i’m charming i never take things seriously i believe that life too short to be taken seriously so enjoy every second and live to the fullest and make every situation a fun one even the bad ones and make as many laughable moments.

I love traveling with my friends going on adventures and taking pictures and watching sunsets and always being outside and i love superheros my favorite superhero is spider-man I love that guy and all of the movies i’m kinda a nerd when it comes to comics and superheros .When i was accepted by city tech i was shocked surprised i got in cause a kid with my grades yeahh……. But i was grateful to get accepted and i decided city tech is where i wanted to attend. And i made a promise to myself that college i would try my fullest and my hardest which is something i kept so far. Originally i wasn’t suppose to attend college i was gonna enlist in the navy with my uncle who is  currently in the navy my mind was set on that for nearly a year until i realized i don’t wanna have a job where everyday my loved ones and my family and myself if imma be alive the next day or if it’s my last so i changed my mind and applied for colleges.

My goals for college is to get my associates degree in hospitality management and then switching to the institution of culinary education and getting a degree in culinary arts. I also plan staying on track on with all my homework classwork project and scoring high grades on my exams and finals and getting Bs and As as my final grade and managing to keep my job at starbucks and stay in school.

I found my interest in culinary my junior year i kept watching these cooking videos and i would try to recreate these dishes but adding a little bit of my own touch i also start creating and mixing drinks that i think would match up and go good together one drink i made once was strawberry syrup with red bull and ginger ale that drink was awesome i also love meeting people and talking and making new friends i plan on moving to hawaii once again once i finish with all my college work.

I chose this picture as my avatar picture because it’s one of the only pictures which u will see my face clearly and you can see my hair because i’m usually am wearing a hat in my picture or my face isn’t clearly visible or noticeable or im facing away from the camera or i’m just staring into space or staring into the background. The current hair color i have isn’t my hair color by the way. I can say my profile picture represents me as a guy who loves wearing hats and i’m a serious guy which i’m not and i’m a self conceited guy cause i’m trying to show off my jawline which i sorta am.

My profile doesn’t say much about me only a few details and what i’m majoring in and what i want to achieve in college but then again i don’t expect my profile to have every detail and information about me..
