Documentation hw

The video I have seen, I’ve used. It is a very helpful video and the commentary is good because the video contains jokes and give people a comfortable vibe from the narrators. They go by each step and show you a close to accurate way to complete the task. It may not explain how to use the character, but it is a video for mostly people who play the game or know about the game. Also this video can be watch more then once if you need a refresher on how to do it. Since it is a video game and a video it is easier to show a task because there will be less explanation.

HW: Response to “Hot Type: A Modern Scholar’s Ailments: Link Rot and Footnote Flight”

While reading the article, “Hot Type: A Modern Scholar’s Ailments: Link Rot and Footnote Flight” by Jennifer Howard, I noticed a lot of familiar things. One being links not working after a certain amount of time. This never really phased me because I never really reused a source after using it once (meaning I never revisited the source), but reading this article increased my concern. As Mr. Bugeja’s said, I too believe that if we don’t figure out a way to preserve links, all the work we have done is somewhat pointless. It can’t be proven fact or fiction if the credible sources are no longer available. I hope they figure out a successful method for preserving citations and sources.

Homework _11 advance search strategies

I only used google scholar once, I was starting to look for related articles about my proposed topic. I did have trouble because I found articles that were not really giving me the information related to my topic. In Mondays class I was able to understand how to use google scholar and its settings, and now I have practice by searching again related articles. I did find a couple and very interesting articles which I have posted it in easybib. This would help me get back to the articles I have found making it easier instead of just going back to the website to find the articles again. The articles are somewhat different because the last articles I found are up to date then the other articles I have found before. Which makes it interesting because my topic relates to social networking and it is what is being used the most and changing frequently.

Homework #10 – Charles Baculima-Castillo

The main problem I have had with the Research Topic Proposal was finding and creating the topic question. I have had many ideas to start with but because I was trying to prevent my question from becoming too narrow, they ending up being too broad. I have always found it difficult to set the standard of a topic from being too general. The feedback from Professor. Leonard really helped me out with this problem. One strategy that I used to help deal with this, was that I choose a topic that I really liked, in this case, it’s the internet and media. I always tend to better when I write about a topic that I like rather than on something I do not. I honestly did not have any questions about the assignment since it was pretty straight forward.

Homework_9 Database

While reading chapter 3 of Badke’s book I finally found the answer in how to do a better research while using certain databases. We all might use google, library databases and etc to find information for our research papers and may find our selves going through many given results until we find the right one. That is as Badke explained we type for example ” interact ” and we get many results that include the word interact. His insights were very helpful, to make sure we use the right keyword(s) to find the “better ” and close result to what we might be looking for.

Homework #9 – Charles Baculima-Castillo

The first reaction I had when I read Liddy’s article about search engines was that I was mind blown. I had an idea that how a search engine works would be complicated but I had no idea that there were so many steps revolving around this process. One aspect that I greatly wanted to touch on was the “stop words”. Stop words is a step that pretty much eliminates and negates common words like “the” and “is”. This step is really important because without this, someone can have a much harder time to search what they really want because these words would cause interference.

Homework #8

After watching the ” A Fair(y) Use Tale” it explains that a person can’t use a article or an idea with out credit till after it enters the public domain. Which can then be accessed by anyone. Now it would have to take a 100 years just to be put into the that domain some also may never enter the domain. I think that a 25 year limit would make more sense or at least to where that information is now a common knowledge amongst people. The thought will ever work especially in this day in age because people are more concerend in making money off anything they possible can instead of information being used freely by the public which all information is intended for. The argument to where you shouldn’t have to give credit to the writer/author shouldn’t be a big deal so a person has to write/type a few more words, that i think should be left as a rule since so many people would just use their ideas instead of their own.

Homework #7

Plagiarism is such a huge deal and the access to it can be easy to get to. Some high school students and even college students would plagiarize peoples work just so they don’t have to do the given assignment. Now a days teachers can find out if something has be plagiarized with machines or just looking up some of the sentences on Google. Plagiarism has also been caught in book writers where they say they had written a book and got it from personal experiences but in reality they actually took that story line and idea from another book or person.

Homework #8 – Charles Baculima-Castillo

In the video “Laws that Choke Creativity” Lessig goes over history in the way that someone from the past viewed how technology would shape and change the future. For example, he discusses how John Philip Sousa used to enjoy music by hearing people actually sing and not depend on vocal machines, like auto-tune, to make music. Another example was William Blackstone’s perception of land in which he believed that no one has the right to trespass someone’s land, way above or below the ground, without the land owner’s consent. With technology growing throughout the years, the invention of planes and helicopters took place. This was problematic for several landowners since planes and helicopters would cross many pieces of land, in the sky, without their consent. As the time was evolving so has the law. The land laws were changed so that planes or any other aircraft that flew over other people’s land were not considered trespasses. This had to change because if the government would have kept the old land law. then flight trips would become impossible since they would get sued by many land owners for “trespassing”.

homework #6

Facebook went through a lot of changes since it had first started. Facebook was first intended just for college kids and just like every social media site little kids tend to take it over thus changing the main idea for a site. The privacy setting have also changed, but as I use Facebook I’ve never touch them because i really don’t post things I don’t want to be posted. The problem people have with their privacy is that they don’t keep it private and just post it for the entire world to see, but once someone they don’t want to see it they complain that there is no privacy.
