The video I have seen, I’ve used. It is a very helpful video and the commentary is good because the video contains jokes and give people a comfortable vibe from the narrators. They go by each step and show you a close to accurate way to complete the task. It may not explain how to use the character, but it is a video for mostly people who play the game or know about the game. Also this video can be watch more then once if you need a refresher on how to do it. Since it is a video game and a video it is easier to show a task because there will be less explanation.

Wikipedia and Social Media

I found the Common Craft video on social media to be a solid means of introducing and describing how social media works, why its necessary, and how it can be used to benefit all. At the same time, i appreciate Nicholson Baker’s article, which gives us insight as to the negatives of “freedom” and how something that’s meant to be useful and shared can be perverted into a platform for anarchy. Its a sad reflection of humanity in my opinion, and can be seen all across the world in other things. While freedom of speech is something i cherish and believe every human should have, there still is a point at which there needs to be a difference between using speech as a tool vs speech as a weapon. I’ve experienced with a business i’m close with, where people who were caught stealing went on yelp and flooded the business with negative reviews. How fair would that have been in scoopville, if people who just didnt like jarett said that his ice cream was nasty, when they’ve never had it? Wikipedia has evolved into a community of editors within the normal internet community to manage the information and keep some integrity, however, at the same time some of those people have gotten so caught up in themselves and their ability to determine what is “relevant”, that they’re suppressing the free flowing of information. I wonder if there will ever be a solution to the abuse that comes with both freedom, and power.

While reading Pavliks “Producers of Digital Media” I learned how media had changed over time and the meanings behind it.  It helped me recognized how involved the public is in todays media.  It gave examples of how phones are were used to record some important evidence and how mostly it was random citizens.  The reading also talks about newspaper were privately owned before and now changing to be publicly owned for the sake of having business because people like having a say in todays media.  This is why most media have adopted to having online distribution and consumption, in order to let the public to have discussions by the means of blogging.

After reading John Pavlik “New Technology and the Media: An Uneasy Alliance” i was informed about the history of the advancements of technology.  How it helped the media change and enhanced it.  It talks about the invention of the electromagnetic telegraph developed from the daguerrotype, which was an early form of photography.  Having a newspaper with images made it easier to understand certain events it made it easier to read because you had an image to help you understand.  With the invention of the WWW it has changed the media again, now the news can be read almost anywhere from your phone or tablet to the giant screens of time square.  All news are being read before its even published on newspaper and with technology every day people could comment and share their point of views.  With the inventions of wikis like Wikipedia not only could people share their thoughts but could also correct the information.  With technology advancing its important for the media to stay on top of it and use it to their advantages.

The article of New Technology and the Media: An Uneasy Alliance is about how the information traveled to the world by using technology, like the electromagnetic telegraph, daguerreotype camera, radio, television and etc. The telegraph was a useful technology that use code to commutate to other people, this technology has proved to become a big help in the media industries like the newspaper company but wasn’t really reliable and the cost was very expensive. The daguerreotype images was great for newspaper article because it helps bring  the story more convincing and can actual see the events that happen on the newspaper. Later on radio, television and cellphone has made information quicker, easier and more affordable to get. Media has become a big spread throughout the world and technologies have help us or guide us to what’s going on in our surrounding and now we the people can’t make any excuse anymore(that sucks). The question I have and it might sound random is why is technology controlling our lives? I mean everywhere I go I see people on their cellphone texting and I just feel that maybe technology has become a big distraction and  we use technology too much. I do think technology are good in some cases but i just think that too much  technology is way over the top.
