Creation and Dis. Digital Media- Sabrina Martinez

It cost less money to create and distribute media in the world we are living in.  Camera crews have been down-sized and film handlers have been laid off. Although it has made life much easier for digital producers it has almost and completely shut out the film world.  As we spoke about in class that movie theaters would have to wait until new released movies were delivered personally, it was a waiting game. However, now that movies are delivered digitally it make life much easier. Technology has made it easy for people to get over and download all kinds of media for free. Yes, I am one however, I tend to not download as much because the quality of the videos and music files that are online have lost their quality.

While reading Pavliks “Producers of Digital Media” I learned how media had changed over time and the meanings behind it.  It helped me recognized how involved the public is in todays media.  It gave examples of how phones are were used to record some important evidence and how mostly it was random citizens.  The reading also talks about newspaper were privately owned before and now changing to be publicly owned for the sake of having business because people like having a say in todays media.  This is why most media have adopted to having online distribution and consumption, in order to let the public to have discussions by the means of blogging.

Producers of digital media (Homework #3)

I would have to say that today the biggest source where people get their news is probably from Youtube. Now-a-days people go on to YouTube and search for the latest new updates. Also people get other new information about other products like the latest video game or the next movie that’s in production. And not only do national television shows show content on the site but everyday people also post up news stories and millions of people watch them.

Another source people get the daily intake of information is anywhere online. All a person has to do is go to Google or Bing and just type in what they want to look for and a giant selection of information will be available to anyone who has a computer with Internet. Also written sources are also going digital because they know that people would rather spend nothing for an article they could just find on their own instead of going out of their house and “wasting” money on a $1.50 newspaper they could get at a local store.

Homework #3

Digital media on the web, is a useful source to stay connected with events that take place around the world daily. The web has converted itself to a place where one can expose their creativity, share thoughts, talents and, the opportunity to upload historical events such as the “london subway bombing”. Many argue that digital media on YouTube  provide low quality content however, it carries a variety of videos regarding many subjects that can be useful when searching the web to view events or news. Some events that have been captured have reached the web sooner than any other source for digital media information. Saddam Hussein’s imprisonment and murder was broadcasted throughout YouTube. A video such as that can raise questions regarding ones privacy or, on another perspective, credited as an excellent resource when providing accurate information that can be viewable. Political candidates turn to the web to give speeches because it is a place where they can discuss information directly without the review and edit of gatekeepers. Therefore, digital media has many advantages because it gives raw information and has many times been the first source to receive worldly events.
