Copyright_

Copyright was defined as a “contract between authors and society” in the video Copyright: Forever less one day. This law of copyright was constructed in 1710 , here society can not copy from any authors work or remake it for they have control over their work for a limited time (25 years). I understood better for what copyright law meant when the example of wanting to remake the harry potter book, this book was published in 1998 having copyright protection which can not be used yet for any remaking. This was a good idea because it gives the right of authors to control over what they have done, & giving them also the privilege to keep their recent work out there for a limited a time before any other author wishes to remake it.

  1. I agree with Laura. It is great for authors to have control over their work. It’s up to them with they want to allow someone to remake their work. The authors can choose to charge for they work. Such privilege allows authors to make money from their ideas. I wonder how much, such shows as, The Family Guy, and the Simpsons, have to pay for the rights to make movie skits. One of my all-time favorite is The Family guy Star Wars skits. To think if George Lucas would have not allowed the skit, one of the greatest episode of never been made.

  2. I also agree with Laura as well that it is beneficial for authors to have control over their work. However it’s up to them to make sure that they know what contracts they are agreeing with the publishers. I say this because some contracts give the publisher 100% ownership of the material the author makes. In some unfortunate circumstances, sometimes the author, themselves, might not know about this. Other contracts might also split the ownership between the author and the publisher and some contracts give the author full ownership. It’s mainly up to the authors to make sure they know what contracts they are getting into before actually going through it.
