After I read the article ” Food Instagrammers Turn Their Accounts Into Professions” on the Wall Street Journal, it is really amazing that how people take advantage of the technology and applications for marketing. I believe that any kind of photography can be an art. Famous instagrammers visit places and photograph some food, hired by the owners, and marketing places. Nowadays, everyone needs to take advantage on everything to be more successful and grow their business. Either an artist could photograph any kind of food and make millions and call this as an “ART” but an instagrammers photographs any type of food in a restaurant to make money or marketing and this doesn’t consider as an “ART.” Both people make money in different ways. I really don’t see the differences in between, although I don’t look at food photographs on instagram as a marketing strategy.
John Gunter said “All happiness depends on a leisurely breakfast”. I can truly agree with it.Iove breakfasts especially on weekends when I can eat my breakfast with my family. We can all sit down together and eat without rush.Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. People often forget about morning meal, not reflecting on the fact that it is the most important of all. Breakfast provides strength and energy for the whole day and it also improves mood.A lot of people do not eat breakfast because they eat late dinner. Sometimes they don’t have time in the morning to prepare a good healthy breakfast.
However, morning meal should contain all the necessary nutrients, so it must be varied and consist of a variety of products.First of all, you should take care that the breakfast included complex carbohydrates, which gently increasing the levels of blood sugar and provide energy for hours and make it for a long time the body functions efficiently.
In my opinion,American’s breakfasts are a little bit sweet. Pancakes , waffles reminds me about dessert not breakfast . What really surprised me in this country? Pancakes for breakfast, especially pancakes with bacon. In my country, we eat pancakes at dinner with many various toppings such us cottage cheese , fruits .It taste a little bit different.Every country has different culture and food style. Like they say One man`s meat is another man`s poison.
In my culture, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. We spend some time with breakfast in my country. Breakfast gives you the most energy, lots of vitamins, and helps your body to start working immediately. When I have my breakfast before I leave home, I am always so happy and more energic. Each culture has different ways to prepare and eat breakfast. When I first came to the US, I was totally shocked. People eat bagels, croissant, pancakes, waffles, even steak with some eggs. I still do not find any of these right. It is easy, and simple. I believe in there is no breakfast culture in American culture. Breakfast is a quick snack for children, created by busy parents in the US. I think breakfast is the one of the keys to success in education, business or personal life.
Using a hidden camera,Walker Evans snapped unsuspecting passengers traveling around the city.We can see what kind of people were travelling in those days. How they were dressed up. Now I am thinking about how many people are coming in and out of the subway station every hour. They’ll be the ones sleeping, listening to music, reading a book.
kids, families, musicians etc.
Pretty much everyone from every walk of life can be found using the underground stations for transportation. I think It is amazing. That’s why I love Evans pictures. In his pictures he shows people I believe that subway is such a perfect place to capture real human emotion. That is the reason why Evan’s document people in the subway. People and their, daily life.I think that is it a great way to tell the story about people. Subway stations are really a world of their own. Underground, dark, gritty, sometimes filled with masses of different people and sometimes deserted, they’re a photographer’s dream for capturing a unique angle of urban life. When people do not know that somebody photograph them they don’t act . They don’t did not act because they don’t know that they were photographed. It makes pictures so natural.
Evans pictures also reminds me about photographer Reinier Gerritsen. He did the same similar thing. This photographer spent 13 weeks over 3 years scouring the subway system of New York City for riders reading books.” Every time Gerritsen saw one, he would snap a picture and make a note of the book that was being read. We can see how things changed”. Nowadays everyone can take a hidden picture. Smartphone becomes more advanced, and apps make sharing of images and video easier than ever
Food is the most important thing in our life.Without it, the living organisms could not function. For many people, food is also an described pleasure, ritual that accompanies mankind since its inception. Our life, faith, tradition for centuries, focused around food and the table.Nowadays, we often forget that eating meals is a ritual, part of the tradition.
The table has always been a place to meet, talk, exchange ideas. Common supper, not only on holidays, was the basis for the functioning of many families, regardless of their social status. Now rigid working hours each of the household often do not allow for the survival of the common. Often meals are eaten quickly and without having to pay attention to what you like. However, I think food brings people together. Tradition dictates eating meals together with your loved ones, these daily and receptions suchus wedding ,communion, birthdays etc. I used to work as a server in catering company and I noticed that food can communicate status at parties especially weddings. People like to show off , spent a lot of money. Many people forgot what is the purpose of this kinds of events. It’s not about how much money you spent it’s all about how wonderful time you can have with your relatives.People should not give up so so simple and meaningful traditions , it gives you the ability to create close relationships with people.
I think taking a photograph of the food is a big art. It has showed everybody’s daily life and culture over the years. While the time goes quickly, your need would change as well. People’s need keep changing all the time, so it is always better to taking photographs what was your culture and what it is now. Food plays a big role in cultures. All these photographs will present us in the future. After centuries people will look at the photographs of our food culture and will try to understand how was our eating habits, how healthy we were and how creative we were. Same for us, now we look at the photographs of the food last 50-100 years and figuring out how was their food culture, what was the food like, photographing the food was an art? Photographing the food is an art, just like the producing and presenting the food. I believe who ever takes a photograph of the food, is creating a documentary for future, without knowing it.
Welcome! If you’re here, then you’re probably enrolled in “The Art of Food” Learning Community. We are three classes that will meet together in the Fall 2015 semester. All students are enrolled in Prof Cheng’s History of Photography ARTH1100-LC01 class and either Prof Garcelon’s Culinary I HGMT 1203-LC22 or Prof Jacus’s Baking & Pastry I HGMT 1204-LC28 class. This website is where you’ll submit much of your discussion and work for my History of Photography class. Although I’ll be grading your work, Professors Garcelon and Jacus will be looking in too, as well as commenting and participating. You will get many opportunities to think about what you produce in Culinary I and Baking & Pastry I in artistic terms, and better understand the history of the ever-changing medium of photography.
I look forward to meeting you in class. Look around, and check back frequently as I develop our class site, and please do not hesitate to contact me.
