BHS Walk

Today was the best day in college so far. Instead of my speech class and english class, My professors took us on a walking trip to Brooklyn Historical Society. We walked there and in the way we made 2 stops. The first stop was at the Columbus park a block up from city tech. The park is pretty big and includes the borough hall and many famous statues of the people that have made any impact. One of the statue we looked at was of Henry Ward Beecher. He is known for fighting for the freedom for the slaves and the one slave that stands out is Pinky. Beecher brought her freedom when she was being sold by her owner. The next stop we made was at the Plymouth Church. The church is where Lincoln came before he was selected as a president. Than we walked around the Brooklyn bridge. It was great to see all the construction going on, the Brooklyn bridge, the city and the Statue Of Liberty. Than we went to BHS. It has got 6 heads sculpture of famous from the history such as Shakespeare Beethoven and Christopher Columbus. inside also included the head of Pinky. That was added their 2 yrs ago by a local painter. Inside was really nice and the structure was really nice as well. We went to their library and saw a lot of interesting things and many old books were there too. Than we saw their new made classroom for college students. We talked about the policies and rules of the BHS.

Speech Class Summary 9-25-13

In speech class on 9-25-13 we discussed chapter 5. Chapter 5 was about what things to do before your speech and why the audience should listen to you. The few things that u should do before a speech is called The Audience Factor. This includes that you should know little about the demographics, socioeconomic status, and the culture background of the audience. Also you should think why the audience should listen to you like do they want to be there, whats in it for them and how to make them listen to you. The other thing we learned was to know about the place you are going to give your speech. If you follow this and do little bit of work before your speech, than you will be ready for the speech

Walk In New York

I have been living here in New York for about 10 years now. The best walk that i have had is with my family to the amusement park at still will ave, now called the The Luna Park. We walked on the boardwalk to the park and it took us about 30 mins to get there. it was a really good summer night with family. I was about 10 at that time and it was really new for me. All the lights and all the Rides i had never seen that kind of park before anywhere in New York. The thing that stood our for me was really all the rides, the weather, the location, and the most important thing was i was with my whole family. We went there around 10 at night. Me,my siblings, and my cousins were just running around and having the fun. We than also walked on the sand and walked barefoot in the water by the beach. It was really nice to enjoy the weather and also the moon light on the water was really beautiful. That moment was really special because i was having the fun of my life. The beach, the sand, the wind and my family. We walked walk back home on the sand barefoot and than ate ice cream on the boardwalk as well. Those moments were really good and precious for me as what was really the last time that my whole family was there, my cousins and everybody else. That was the walk of my life so far for me.

Summary of “City Limits”

In the passage of “City Limits” by Colson Whitehead, he tells the story of New York. He describes NY in few words that it is the greatest city. Colson whitehead was born in NY as well and he loved this place. He says that everybody has their own version of New York and  there are 8 million cities in the naked city. We all see it in our own different ways and we starting seeing that when we first lay our eyes on it. The first instant that you lay your eyes on it, that is the first brick of your New York.  As you live on in new York you build your own New York. The things around us start changing but we still remember how they were. We see them how they were in the past. We see things as they were in our experience while the others see it in their experience or remember it that way. We might still remember the stores or other places that were replaced by new stores. There is a time when we have to say good bye it hard to do that. It is hard to see your favorite shop being replaced by a different shop or leaving you apartment building. However we realize that New York still moves on even if we are not there and that makes us New Yorker. When u realize that than you try and remember your New York version even more and try to fix city in place, your city. You remember everything of Your new York which is replaced but u still remember it the way you experienced it and saw the city  and  for you it will always stay like that. Everybody will remember their own version of it and live on but You will stay here because once you live in New York , You cant live anywhere else.

 

Fort Green Dreams Summarized

Fort green dreams is a autobiography of Nelson George. nelson george was a man about sustain excellence and achieve a lot by giving his best. He is also a music culture critic, journalist, film maker, and a author. This story tells the story of his career and his life. He moved to Brooklyn, fort greens from Jamaica ,Queens. He had seen downtown Brooklyn but now it was different for him. He moved to 19 Willoughby Avenue. He lived here for for 7 years from 1985 to 1992. These were important years for him as he made name for himself and also help make fort green the birth place of many stars. Fort green produced basketball greats but also was known for gang activities. Nelson also got mugged once his VCR was stolen as well. However the area was not that bad and he also liked his place, his apartment.He was thankful for getting all this as he really was not that rich or anything but made his way though life and earn it. It was huge, he had his space to work, and also this helped him with his work. His ambition grew in his bigger apartment, waking up at night helped him grind some new ideas and he liked it there. he wrote 5 books there and his most important and break through work “The Death of Rhythm and Blues”. He also invested in movies, wrote and produced screenplays. Nelson was friends with other artists and that helped him discover himself. The kind of writer he was, the kind of son he was and this helped him as he learned he was a mentor. He guided the new starts and gave them the exposure they needed to show their talent. The chance they needed to show they belonged. He made many people starts while on the other hand many failed not because of him but their own issues such a ego and many more. His dream was to fill the shelf with his books and live a active life and being productive was the way to show that. That is way he say “Achieving sustained excellence is what i preached to others and sought for myself”.He just wanted to say he achieved a lot through his life by giving their best and that what he wanted the other to do.

  3. 9 women in the picture , 3 behind the counter and rest are probably customers.
  4. The store has  embroidery material.
  5. There are seats in the left of the picture.
  6. The photographer took the picture from the entrance of the store, probably took the picture to show how the women run the store.
  7. They are dressed the same and all are dressed formal and elegant.
  8. The facial expression are not clear but i think they are happy shopping or running a store.
  9. I think the purpose of the image is to show the massage that women can run a business too since this time were when women were not considered equal as men.

 

Project #1 Introducing Yourself

Zeeshan Arif is a freshmen at college of technology and a  Graduate from Abraham Lincoln high school. I am interested in psychology and i am looking forward to being a psychologist or something similar to that field of studies. I live with my family and I have two siblings. I work at burger king, in sunset park Brooklyn. I also play sports and mostly cricket. I love playing cricket because that’s what i have been playing through out high school as well, as i have played for my high school cricket team. I am starting my life fresh in college of technology and hopefully i can be much better than i was in high school.

My avatar i think tells a lot about to me.My avatar is of he human mind.I think it tells what i want to do in my life which is to be a psychologist. I want to learn more about the human mind, How we think ,and how certain emotions or situations make us react or do something. I think its shows that now i have a clear vision of my life. i know what i want to do in my life. This can also tell that i am a person that likes to know about people and talk to them. I think my avatar represents my future and the vision that i have for my future. The avatar tells about the kind of person i am.

My avatar could be interpreted differently because my avatar shows just a a human brain. people might think i am a kind of nerd or a person that just likes to study.It can show that i am weird or anything. A lot can be said but u never know the person until u talk to them. Like many other pictures my picture can be seen in many ways but like i said i feel u will only know better when u learn more about me but not just by looking at my avatar.

From my profile hopefully people can see who i really am, Know me better not just make up their mind by seeing my avatar. I hope that people could understand what i want from life and college, which is to make new friends. When i came to college i came with the thought of starting a fresh new life, making new friends but also not leaving my old friends. I also want to make most out of the chance that i got to make my life better attend college. I want to be successful in life and put in the hard work that is required. MY Profile pic shows my vision and now when i am  here, i have the chance to chase after my dreams i will do that. I think my profile should also tell the people that i want to be successful, a better person and and make college a wonderful experience. This profile is a little example of what i am and hopefully it tells people about me and make them want to learn  more because the best way to learn ore is by knowing the person and talking to them.
