Task
You have recently been hired by _____ [choose an industry leader or leading organization in the field you wish to start your career with]. As part of the orientation process you are asked to write an essay explaining what you know about the leader/organization and what your career goals are.

 

Role and Audience
The essay is to be written as if the department head of your desired work location will be reading it.

 

Format
Follow APA Standards including but not limited to:

  • Title page
  • Proper page numbers, spacing and font
  • Citations
  • Reference page
  • Minimum of ~250 words
  • Submit a rough draft, reviewed by a writing tutor, to the back of the final submission.

    I’ve been hired by General Manager Deborah Mitchell of the Ritz Carlton hotel of New York City to be a cuisine chef. I know that Deborah is an excellent manager due to my prior experience working with her with volunteer work I did in high school. My career goals within the Ritz Carlton is to become an excellent cuisine and pastry chef and excel in every and anything I create. My career goals are also to be one of the head chefs in cuisine or pastry as well as branching off and owning my own restaurant one day.
    Hospitality management is the field of study with the purpose of preparing individuals with the expertise, skills for management, and commitment, marketing, and operations positions in the continuously expanding industry that provides accommodations, food and tourism services to people away from home. Tourism and hospitality management is interdisciplinary as a field of study, with a ride range of basic authority to supply underlying knowledge and skills necessary to attain diverse demands positioned upon individuals in management positions within the hospitality industry.
    President and chief executive officer of Marriott international Inc, that led a lodging global company with with more than 4,100 properties in over 79 countries as well as territories and reported revenues of over $14 billion. His responsibilities were lodging operations and development in the continental European region as well as the company’s over fall financial functions. Carolyn Handlon is Executive vice president finance and global treasurer of Marriott international that led Marriott’s corporate finance organization, overlooking the financial health and strategy of this $14 billion market cap lodging company. Her responsibilities included financial strategy and analysis, financial risk management, global capital sourcing and transaction evaluation.

    I have just been hired by Caesars Casino Hotel in Atlantic City, for the position of concierge. I am so excited to work here. According to Bloomberg business website the Caesars Casino hotel came in 12th place in the top 20 biggest casino hotels worldwide. It is a very successful industry. Now I’ve been doing some research, aside from knowing that Caesars is a huge hotel, the corporation itself is a billion dollar industry. Caesars Entertainment Corporation is one of the most geographically diverse companies in the world, having almost 50 hotels worldwide and with over 60,000 employees worldwide according to their website, now that’s what you call an enormous industry. Caesars is not only about gaming and gambling, this industry also has a foundation which has given more than $74 million dollars to help and support communities, according to the Caesars website. This foundation started out in the year 2002 and is still running strong until this day. It makes me proud to know that I’m going to be part of a company that does good for the world and helps out the less fortunate.

    Now aside from their huge success, Caesars have also had their fair share of downfalls and even filed for bankruptcy at the beginning of this year. Seeing that bit of information did make me feel a bit uneasy, but I have faith in my company and I know that we will succeed no matter what the circumstance. I can’t wait to start working, I am very nervous but I am also very excited, this is only the beginning of making my dreams turn into a reality. My ultimate dream is to become General Manager and I know that in due time I will get to the position. I will work hard and show that I am worthy of being the General Manager of this great Casino hotel or maybe even another hotel, who knows what the future has in store for me, but for right now I couldn’t be more thankful and grateful enough for getting this wonderful opportunity for this company and I hope that I can gain as much knowledge as I possibly can from this company and grow to be the best of the best.

    I have just been hired as a executive chef at the Bobby Flay Steak Restaurant here in Atlantic City, NJ and first off let me just express how elated I am to be giving such a great opportunity to do something that I love for a man whom I’ve been such a huge fan of since I discovered my love for food and the hospitality industry. Mr. Flay who was born Robert William Flay on December 10, 1964 to Irish American parents Bill and Dorothy Flay, was raised on the upper east side section of Manhattan, New York. Unfortunately he dropped out of high school but later received his GED from the City of NY GED Program. Bobby needed a job and luckily for him his father was a manager at the Famed Joe Allen’s Restaurant, so he was called in to fill in for a bus boy one day but he gained permanent employment as a kitchen helper. His boss paid for him to attend the French Culinary Institute, he was apart of the first graduating class in 1984. Bobby Flay has took the culinary world by storm, opening his first restaurant the Messa Grill in 1991, second restaurant the Bolo Restaurant & Bar in 1993 and several others just a few years apart from each other. Not only is he a Chef and restaurant owner, he is the author of 12 cookbooks, and has several culinary shows on the Food Network channel such as “Beat Bobby Flay” “Worst Cooks In America” just to name a few and the one that started it all “ Iron Chef of America”. His confidence was misunderstood for disrespect and cockiness as he went against another great chef, Masaharu, Morimoto. He lost that battle but came back a few years a beat him and not only did they mend their differences they have become great friends. Bobby Flay also has a host of a awards from New York Magazines Restaurant of the year, James Beard foundations National television host award, etc. He was entered into the Culinary Hall of Fame in 2013.
    This is such a great opportunity for me utilize my talents and ideas but to also absorb all the knowledge and experiences that I can. My career goals are to successfully be able to execute any work needed to be done no matter what position I am employed to do. The ultimate goal is to own my own successful restaurant and who better to teach me and show me the ropes than someone who worked his way from the bottom of the culinary ladder to the top. I’m sure by now threw his journey Bobby Flay has learned the ability to be confident in your craft without seeming cocky, and if need be to solely run his restaurant if need be. To be a successful restaurant owner you need to be able to step in for any position if any of your employees were too call out. Yes you will be a owner but you have to be relatable, approachable, and open to teaching people who you inspire but yet still open to learning something new. The Bobby Flay Steak Restaurant will be the perfect place for me and I will be a great addition to this family, an eager mind is a great mind because they will always be willing to learn something new and correct any mistakes that they will make. My passion for the hospitality industry is something that I take pride in and the customers experience is really all that matters, my goal is always exceed the customer’s expectations. Thanks for giving the little girl with a big dream in me a wonderful opportunity to make my dream a reality.

    I am writing to express my sincere gratitude for being hired as the General Manager for The St. Regis hotel in East 55 st. in New York City, by Starwood Hotel and resorts world wide, INC. I am honored to be a part of this growing company and to begin my career in the Hotel Hospitality business. Starwood has had very successful hotels and not to mention continue to grow in revenue every year. Starwood Hotels and Resorts is one of the leading hotel and leisure companies in the world with more then 1,200 properties in over 100 countries and they employ over 180,000 employees. This is why I am delighted to finally be able to work with the company.
    Starwood is known for their operating and franchising of hotels and resorts with renowned brands such as St. Regis, Le Meriden, Sheraton and A loft just to name a few. The company through out the years has had their ups and downs like any other company but has risen to a high where the company also boasts one of the industries leading loyalty programs. According to Forbes Starwood is at a market cap at $14.6 billion dollars.
    One of the primary reasons why I am more then excited to work for this company is because of the vacation ownership, INC; that the company also owns. Starwood vacation, INC; provides vacation experiences through villa style resorts. I eventually want to be flexible with the company and travel around the world managing or provide training for potential Hotel managers. Essentially, my goal is to be able to provide customer service training in different regions and make this company even more successful. One of the company values that I admire the most is Diversity & Inclusion. One of the initiatives of this value is advancement of female talent. This is to establish gender balance at all levels of the organization to meet and exceed goals of our global female guests.
    Being able to work for this company is going to take me further that I have ever been. I have worked in the Customer service industry for the past 15 years and I am finally in the direction I wanted to take my career. Being able to share my knowledge and to learn new ways of exceeding customer expectations is just the beginning. I will give my all in making this company one of the greatest if not the best in Hotel management and continue to be a result driven individual. This is one of the best accomplishments I have endured.

    I’ve just been hired at Royal Caribbean Cruises, in hotel operations and guest port experience department. I really want to travel for a career because the idea of traveling has always been so intriguing, since growing up. Royal Caribbean offers so many opportunities on and off the ship because it’s a huge aspect in the hospitality mainly the tourism department. Once the ship hits the port it would be my job to make sure guest have the best hospitality in food, entertainment, and experience.
    Tourism is traveling within the same country or commonly traveling internationally which is a very popular leisure activity. Today, tourism is a main income source for many countries, and Royal Caribbean is part of those incomes.
    Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd is one of the world’s largest cruise companies. With it owning Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises brands, RC has 45 ships which are Celebrity Cruises, Royal Caribbean International, Azamara, Pullmantur, CDF, and Freedom of the Seas that hold the capacity of approximately 78,650. Covering 160 destinations and operates a partnership with UK tour operator First Choice for land-based tours. The company employs 36,350 people worldwide. Cruise ships in general are a huge part in tourism because about 9 million people partake in a cruise every year.
    The thing about Royal Caribbean that intrigues me the most is that it creates long lasting memories. Toni Schlesinger a writer for the NYtimes wrote about his time he went on Royal Caribbean Internationals Allure of the Seas cruise ship for a seven-day western Caribbean voyage. As he wrote about the massive size of the ship, he went into detail of the staff that helped his aunt feel comfortable to forget that she was on a ship in the first place. It was pretty easy to forget because at some point he thought he was in central park then a mall in Dubai and they were still on the ship at this point. This is why I want to be part of this company to help people forget and bring them all around the world from cuisines to shows in just seven days. And royal Caribbean has all the things I love to do in one.

  6. I have been hired by the famous chef Marcus Samuelsson to be a cuisine chef of his first and signature restaurant, The Red Rooster. I knew about Mr. Samuelsson through his personal memoir named “Yes, Chef”. In this book I learned about Samuelsson childhood in Africa and his first experiences in the kitchen taught by his adoptive grandmother, who he owes his live and passion for food. After living in Harlem, New York for six years, Marcus Samuelsson opened his first restaurant in the heart of Harlem in the 2010. And with a mixture of the American and African cuisine Samuelsson’ first restaurant has been a complete success from the moment it opened its doors to this very date.
    My goals within The Red Rooster is to learn from the other expert chefs that work with me. Mr. Samuelsson offered me the great opportunity to practice my skills in his kitchen which will help me keep improving my cooking techniques and hopefully one day follow his footsteps and become a known chef, proprietary of my own restaurant.
    The businesses within the hospitality and tourism industry are aimed to provide service and a diverse form of facilities for their guests, such as food and beverage, travel, entertainment or somewhere to stay for those away from home. As the head manager of The Red Rooster, every executive in the hospitality and tourism industry has the indispensable role of making sure that the product they are selling goes around each guest appeal and to secure a great service for each one of them to create a habit of loyalty for each person who visits their business.
