  1. Rachel Samuel says:

Tourism is the largest industry in the world. Many countries all over the world rely heavily on tourism for economic growth. Some of the benefits of having tourism for the government are: tax revenues, global employment, growth in lodging and food service. There are many ways to travel. Rail, automobile, airlines, autobus or by cruise liners. Many of these means of traveling provides hubs and spoke systems. These systems help to connect multiple methods of traveling for passengers and tourists. Traveling by plane may be the most pricey, which can have a negative affect on the economy but it is the fastest way to travel internationally. Cruise ships offer views of multiple locations with a set price. They offer a wide array of entertainment while traveling to destinations. Tourism in the United States is a multi-billion dollar gain. That gain helps to strengthen the US economy. There are many promoters of tourism all over the US. Not all tourism is good they can also have a negative effect on communities. Eco-tourism is focused more on individual values while sustained tourism places a broad obligation on society. Cultural, heritage, nature, culinary, and volunteer tourism all are motivated by someone or something. Tourism across the US will continue to grow and have an economic impact. As long as the getting to the US does not out weigh the means of people trying to get here.

Chapter 9 is an overview of tourism, it explains what the business consists of and the benefits of tourism and the different ages of travel and how businesses came about as a product of the evolution of travel. Chapter 9 also talks about Boeing’s new airplane and how eco friendly it is. It saves a lot more fuel than your typical airplane and its made of carbon fiber which makes the airplane lighter. Cruise ships on the other hand has been a very popular way of traveling these past couple of years. The prices vary anywhere from $95 to $400 per day depending on how much money a person makes. Travel and tourism make up a huge amount of money in economy. This chapter tells us about the role the hospitality field plays in the economy(G.D.P, Tax Revenue), as a system of trade with other nations and the role it plays in the employment factor(8.8% global workforce).
The fields it interlaps with are the travel, food service and recreation. The progression/ development of the hospitality field has been broken down to 5 periods(ages), the first one being dated all the way back to 1840. Changes in the advancement of the technology in transportation has reshaped and increases the demand in hospitality(hotels). From railroads to train, to cars, to bus, to airlines, hub & spoke systems in airlines travel, to cruise ships. The progression & advancement of each transportation method, and its losses & profits in the market (especially the airline & cruise) influence the incline or decline of the hospitality field.
The World Tourism Organization is the leading organization in our field, which participates as a specialized agency for the United Nations. This W.T.O principals it focuses on are implementing sustainable tourism, accessible tourism, economic development, and peace, prosperity & human rights respect. Aside from the W.T.O, there are many other promoters of tourism from travel agencies to corporations, management companies, wholesalers consolidators, associations, bureaus, offices , and organizations.
Tourism can be either positive or negative to countries depending/based on the tourist’s behavior & respect towards the host values and environment. Ecotourism, Sustainable tourism, culture, heritage & nature tourism focus on contributing to a positive tourism style.

As world’s largest industry, the definition of tourism comprises the activities of persons traveling to and staying in places. And there are lots of benefits that tourism can bring you and we divide it into five ages. What counts the most is the ways of transportation we choose when we travel, certainly different ways have different features. We need to focus on the impacts from kinds of perspectives. Meanwhile, according to the aims of tour we can still divide tourism into various types, such as for culture, business, etc. At last, concentrating on the trends of tourism can help us have a better knowledge of its future’s development.

Chapter 9 defines that the world’s largest industry is tourism. There’s many international tourism organizations that tries to help people explore more around those areas. What tourism is what helps people understands a particular place or sale. It helps grow the sales from within the area and from outside the area. Whether this is visiting a particular place, staying at a place or going to a show in another city, this all adds into tourism. It helps the economy and government grow quite well. People spend a lot of people on traveling and staying at foreign places. Those outside incomes helps moves in money into the cities thus allowing the cities’ growth/income/gross to rise as well. Much benefits to those areas.

In this chapter tourism and its benefits over the years are discussed, some of its benefits consist of increases in employment opportunities and tax revenues. Tourism has grown throughout the years as different forms of transportation became available and as technology continues to improve. Cars, trains, airlines, and cruise ships have benefited from technology improvements, which therefore assisted in the increase in tourism. Cars have helped get people to more remote and harder to reach locations where other forms of transportation are unavailable. Airlines have been looking for ways to decrease their spending and costs. For example airlines are investing in newer aircrafts that use less fuel for its trips. The growth of this industry will continue to grow through technology improvements and the increase awareness of the many benefits of tourism.

The evolution of tourism. How people traveled to and from in the 1800’s until the present time. Tourism has an significant impact on the economy of the places that people love to visit most, not only is it bringing attention to the land, island, country etc. It also brings job opportunities. This is a 24 hr a day 365 days a year industry, responsible for the employment of 8.8% of the global workforce. It is the leading producer of tax revenues and 9.1% of the GDP. There are five ages of tourism, basically five different time periods in which the development of tourism has been broken down into. Preindustrial (before 1840), The railway age, The automobile age, The Jet aircraft age, and The cruise ship age. Without even reading this chapter you can tell that as the world evolved so did this industry. It keeps up with times, and the trends of the world so that when you vacation, or travel your experience is up to date! The Pre industrial age was primarily for religious and trade reasons. The railway age introduced a means to expand your travels and along with that, Influenced the building and expansions of cities and towns all over. These factors also made it possible to ship goods from one place to another. More modern times would be to travel by car, bus, plane, or even a cruise ship. These new innovations brought along so many job opportunities from car rental companies, bus drivers, ticket agents, TSA agents, tour operators, travel agencies, and destination management companies, all these things that you wouldn’t think would be impacted simply by traveling, but this shows you exactly how widespread this industry is. You travel for many different reasons but whatever your reason every dollar spent, and every step taken plays a significant role in the economy and is a way of keeping it going.

    Chapter 9

What is tourism? Tourism is the largest industry along with world tourism organization. For many developing countries tourism represents a large percentage of GDP and a way of gaining a positive balance of trade with other nations.
The benefit of tourism provides government with substantial fax revenues. It also offers the greatest global employment. Increasing in disposable income and vacations and reasonably priced airfares.
Traveling by the train made mass travel possible for everyone. Taking the train makes good sense it takes away from traffic by air. Also a convenient and economic mode of travel is traveling by bus. In the 1840’s the 5 ages of traveling began. From there it has continue to expand. Traveling has been something that has expanded over the years and has opened many doors in the world of tourism.

  17. John Tadras says:

Tourism is the world largest industry and is usually requiring you and other to spend money. This is very important because it is major sources of revenues. Economic growth is depending on tourism because of the fact it is for business or pleasure and many other reasons which are ongoing things in our everyday lives. There are certain characteristics that the world travel and tourism have such as employing 259 million people. There are benefits that also come with tourism such as “substantial tax revenues” and of course people who are making a lot of money and have the time are going to experience some tourism of their own. There are also different segments of tourism such as “ travel , food service , lodging and recreation. All can depend on each other for maximizing their profits for business. Back in the Middle Ages travel was not what it is today for example only reason they would travel is for “religious or trade reasons “ there are many different ways you can travel such as car, bus , train, airplane , they all serve different purposes on why there is things that are established the way they are for example motels on highways are for people who travel long distance in cars and need to rest every when so ever. Airlines and cruise ships are big part of tourism. There are different markets for the cruise ships mass market, middle market, luxury market. Stated in the text it has large affect on the economy “ international travelers spend 94 billion in travel in the U.S.” Tourism is for many different things such as cultural , heritage , nature , culinary , volunteer they are all motivated by different reasons.

  18. jiang1991 says:

Tourism is a growing industry, people love to travel and experience other cultures. It helps to create jobs for locals to serve the tourist. The government also makes money from collecting tax from the money they spend while visiting the country/ place. As travel becomes more and more convenient and fast more and more people want to travel. As technology become more advance the tourism industry is capable to offer a wider spectrum of tourism. Cruises are a form of vacation that is based on the journey. Ecotourism is a form of tourism that is “green” where people can get in touch with nature. But there is a down side to all of the tourism. When people visit other countries cultures might clash, tourist can also influence and change the original culture of the land.
