Read and React # 3

Working as housekeeper has been a very intense experience, but it also allows you to learn a lot about the hotel industry. I have not had the chance to shadow a manager at this point; unfortunately this will happen the last week of my program at the all stars. My managers do know my reason for being in this program and understand my drive to succeed. This allows me to ask many questions that they are more than happy to answer. MY location manager is Giovanni he has been with the Walt Disney World company for 15 year. He started his career as a housekeeper and work his way up to where he is today. Being a manager at the Walt Disney World company is both great and stressful.  According to my manager one of the toughest things to do is keep the staff happy while keeping the best standards possible for the hotel. The work load is very big and many times its hard to give everyone what they want.   Every manager is not the same but because we are a value hotel we strive for the best possible ratting at all time.  Diversity places a very important part in the way they manage the cast members. In our breakout meeting every Wednesday and Saturday we see how the meetings are communicated in the three main languages, English, Spanish, and French creol. This shows that every person is very important and if need be they can go to any manager and be able to talk to them.  My manager comes to me every afternoon and explains why he wants things done the way he asks me to do them.  He keeps telling me that one day I’ll get to be where he is today. Being a manager is not new to me. In New York I work in a retail store in the west village as a sales manager. For the last five years I have developed many skill that have help me understand the demands of the Walt Disney World Resorts. In my store I was in charge of opening and closing duties sales floor, sales associate, scheduling and customer service to all of our customers. It has been a hard road but with great training and patience I was able to successfully become the employee I am today. The transition from associate to manager took some time. I was the youngest among the entire staff.  Some people where mot happy and made my development a bit more difficult, but I overcame the negativity and love the person and manager  I became in the process.
