Journal #9

Two weeks ago, we started closing some of the buildings at Pop Century Resort due to the low occupancy rates and some maintenance concerns. It was a lot of work for the housekeeping department. In one day we closed two of the buildings, which means in one day we have 576 check outs just in those two buildings. I am not going to lie; I was terrified when I saw my board with eighteen checkouts. I never thought I could do it in such a small amount of time, and that I would be able to help others to finish their board after I did mine. However, it was the most incredible experience that I have last week and I finally realize how important a team work in any job is.  I was impressed by the fact that even our managers and leaders came out to help out. They were making the beds for the people that where behind with their job and also making sure that we were hydrating during the whole day because it was an extremely hot day. I never realize until now how complex and family approach is the housekeeping department; I feel we all are family not matter where we came from, or if we know each other. If someone needs help other person will always show to help out. Team work and being a team player is the key to success in this particular job.

    Hi Karina,

I work In the All star sports resort and its one of the busiest resorts with big checkouts because we have huge groups and having 17 checkouts is very normal. I absolutely agree with you, we are a family no matter nationality, language ,sex or region. Its an amazing feeling when you are behind and someone comes and help you. I’m so glad to hear that you have such great managers and leaders that actually stay and help you by making beds and garbing the linens and garbage. That to me is great leadership.
