Importance of Recognition – Week 7

Does anyone wave a Mickey glove as part of their job in Disney? Since I’m in attractions, we are not mandated to waving the Mickey glove but the greeter does have the option to wave one if they choose to. Many cast member in my attraction find waving the Mickey glove pointless and refuse to do so unless told to. As for me, I find it a great tool to use while trying to create magical moments for little kids. For those who waves a Mickey glove has probably noticed that with a Mickey glove on, guests around you would wave back 95% of the time; however, without it, you would usually get an odd look as if your are crazy. It doesn’t bother me that I would be the only one waving a Mickey glove out at greeter but sometimes being the only one to do something could get a little discouraging.

During one of my tasking assignments, I had come back to the pc a little later then I was supposed to. I was trying to explain to my coordinator that my reason for being late for the next assignment is due to a crying child; she stopped my explanation and told me not to worry about it. She expressed her trust in me because she always sees me running around with a Mickey glove and stickers to create magical moments and told me to keep up the good work. Her recognition of my work has become the highlight of my day. I can honestly say it gave my spirit a lift and put the magic back in me. Later on that week, she had picked me as one of her five best workers to go ride Test Track (before it closes for refurbishment) in our costumes as a reward. It’s amazing how something so little can encourage a cast member so much, now I wave that Mickey glove with pride and is proud of it.

One Response to Importance of Recognition – Week 7

  1. You should be proud. Maybe it will be you who changes the expectation of your work place. Getting into character can be difficult is not supported but when you are following the direction of your leaders and making their lives easy (not to mention you make them look good in front of their bosses) you will be noticed. Remember it is your leaders who will open doors for you so keep giving them a reason to do so.
