SPSS Workshop: Consort Diagrams

Here’s an exciting opportunity for Undergraduate Researchers and any students at City Tech interested in learning more about using SPSS: the SPSS Workshop Series, a subset of the Undergraduate Research workshops this semester.

SPSS Workshop #1: Consort Diagrams
March 28th, 1:00-2:00 PM

The first session of the SPSS Workshop Series will delve into the intricacies of consort diagrams – their significance in clinical trials and scientific publications, and the methodology behind their creation. Students from all majors are welcome to attend.

In advance of the workshop session, students will need to read the freely available, selected article, “Cardiovascular Risk Assessment Among Adolescents and Youths Living With HIV: Evaluation of Electronic Health Record Findings and Implications.”

You can register for SPSS Workshop #1: Consort Diagrams via Zoom.

The next two of these three sessions of the SPSS Workshop Series will take place next month:

  • SPSS Workshop #2 Creating Tables and Exploring Associations between Two Variables, April 4, 1-2 PM
  • SPSS Workshop #3  Creating Tables and Exploring Associations between Multiple Variables for Scientific Journal Articles, April 11, 1-2 PM

This workshop series was created by Prof. Gurung, who will lead each of the three sessions.

Workshop: Advancing Library Research Techniques

We’re past the mid-semester mark, but not yet midway through the slate of workshops designed for you, Undergraduate Researchers!

You’re invited to join Prof. Leonard and Prof. Berger from City Tech’s library for Advancing Library Research Techniques, where you’ll learn how to use the library and Google Scholar to find sources for your poster and general strategies for the literature review.

This workshop is offered twice on Thursday, March 27th, once in the library and once on Zoom:

  • In person with Prof. Leonard, 1:00-2:00 PM–This workshop will take place in L540, the Library E-classroom. Enter the library on the 4th Floor of the Library building, and go up to the classroom on the next floor.
  • Online with Prof. Berger, 4:00-5:00 PM –You can register for the 4:00PM Advancing Library Research Techniques via Zoom.

Two great options for one great workshop!

Workshop: Academic Works for Student Posters

Another workshop, Undergraduate Researchers!

You’re invited to join City Tech’s Prof. Monica Berger for a workshop to learn more about using Academic Works for student posters and the ways Academic Works can benefit you as a researcher. Adding your poster to CUNY Academic Works creates a unique, permanent link that you can use to feature your research in your resume or CV, as well as your graduate school applications.

Register now and join Academic Works for Student Posters via Zoom on Thursday, April 27, 4:00-5:00PM for the workshop.

Workshop: Using OpenLab for your Research Project

We’re at midsemester, with many of the semester’s workshops still ahead of us, thanks to the effort of the workshop leaders and organizers, and of course to the curious and lively student participants!

Next in the workshop schedule is Using OpenLab for your Research Project, led by Prof. Reitz and Prof. Rosen, from the OpenLab Team, who will support student researchers by showing how to communicate about and display research via OpenLab or other open online platforms. All are welcome–even student researchers from elsewhere in CUNY–so invite your research-minded friends from other campuses, too!

Register for Using OpenLab for Your Research Project and join online on Thursday, 3/20, 1:00-2:00PM.

If you haven’t already, you may want to take the time to sign up for an OpenLab account before the workshop so you can log in and get started!

Workshop: Being a Professional

Calling all Undergraduate Researchers! If you are participating in an undergraduate research program, be sure to check out the full list of Spring 2025 workshops and sign up for workshops. This workshop, on Being a Professional, is a great opportunity not only for you as a researcher but also as you embark on or continue in your profession! Participating students will learn about professionalism and strategies to develop from varied perspectives.

You’re invited to join Profs. Davide and Walljasper for this workshop on developing professional skills. The session will be on Thursday, October 10th from 1:00-2:00PM via Zoom.

You’ll need to register in advance for Becoming A Professional–then just add it to your calendar and be sure to arrive when it’s time for the workshop (tip: one part of being a professional involves being punctual)!

Stay tuned for more updates, including a reminder that the next workshop is coming up soon: Using OpenLab (or other sites) for Research Projects, on Thursday, 3/20 at 1:00-2:00pm.

Workshop: Research Types and Methods

Hopefully you’re signing up to attend a workshop or two this week. Now get ready to join Profs. Gregory, Kim, and Parveen for the next workshop of the Spring 2025, Research Types and Methods.

Before beginning your research project, you need to decide how to design a study. This panel discussion workshop will give you a brief overview of various types of research using field surveys, secondary data analysis, and laboratory experiments.

This session takes place on Thursday, March 13th, from 1-2:00PM. Be sure to register for Research Types and Methods Panel and then join when it’s time!

Workshop: Presenting Yourself Online

If you are participating in an undergraduate research program, the Spring 2025 workshops are here for you. Students participating in an undergraduate research program have many workshop options to choose from throughout the semester–so undergraduate researchers, now is the time to sign up! And mentors, now is the time to encourage the student researchers you work with to sign up!

City Tech’s OpenLab Team invites all students to join them for a workshop on presenting yourself online, which focuses on how students can create and maintain a professional and/or academic online presence. The OpenLab team supports students developing a presence on their OpenLab sites during their academic career at City Tech and even into their job search post-graduation.

The session is on Tuesday, March 11th, from 1:00-2:00 PM. Register for Presenting Yourself Online. See you soon!
