Prompt

  • According to these authors, what is their aesthetic approach, and why is it better than the traditional design/typography of the past?
  • What role should typography, photography, and other media play in shaping a new kind of design?
  • How did technological advances influence aesthetic forms and theories in early 20th Century design?

According to these authors their aesthetic approach is simplicity and their main focus is legibility and clarity. Its better than traditional typography of the past because its easy to read, you understand it in one glance rather than it taking a couple tries which makes it a successful aesthetic and approach.

The role that typography, photography and other media should be playing in shaping a new kind of design should be focused on visual clarity. No matter what channel of media is being used the goal should always be how to get the message across in one glance rather than aesthetic. The delicate matter is how to convery message and aesthetic both through design.

Technological advances influenced aesthetic forms in such a way that the design was almost geometric and shapeless. It broke all rules of traditiona typography and design of the past. Design became a lot more random ans asymmetrical while the typography was a lot more concise and easier on the eye.
