For this week’s sketchbook assignment, I went to a jazz lounge and a museum that showcased different types of mirrors from different eras. I decided to draw what I heard, felt and saw. What’s encompassed on my sketches are quick drawings of what I’ve experienced.

For my final editorial illustration piece, I’ve decided to go the more traditional route. At first, I was going to do it all digitally, but I wanted to try and see how it would come out if I painted it with acrylics. My overall topic is centered around global warming and would be created for the publication, the “New Scientist”. The piece is composed of arctic ice forming as a polar bear, after all with the increase of heat within our atmosphere, polar bears will continue to have their habitat’s wither. The mediums I’ve used was acrylic paint, but I wanted to try blue as a monochromatic color. Even though within my illustration there’s three forms of blue, I’ve only used two blues and experimented with them by mixing them. Link to the article and my color inspiration will be linked below.
For my rough color pieces, I’ve decided to use different hues of blue. Since my article and topic is focused on global warming of the arctic, I did some research pertaining to the ice/polar caps melting, which results in the polar bears losing their habitat. I’ve also created a color palette that can better help me showcase my illustration while also utilizing depth throughout the ice. This is a rough piece and my final product may not be digital!
