My Culture Source: How to get away with murder

Writer: Peter Nowalk

First Aired: September 25, 2014

Summary: This show is about College professor Annalise Keating  who teaches law and she calls the class” How to get away with murder”. In her first class she chooses a group of students to assist her when she has a case at her firm with her employees ( Frank Delfino, Bonnie Winterbottom). The first case she presented to the class was an attempted murder and the defandant was the victims second assistant who was also the victims mistress. The victims wife found out about the affair and the victim moved the mistress to another department to work in and ended the relationship and that’s when she switched the victims blood pressure for asprin which she knew he was allergic too. When he swallowed the pill he fell ill and had a near to death experience. And now they are trying to find out if the mistress actually switched the pill or was it the wife? The case isnt the only intresting thing in the show but its also the things that happens revolving around the case for example in professor Annalise life.

One legal concept that I noticed in the show is that its as if the students where mini paralegals because they were able to do their own research and bring it to their attorney which was the professor one thing that they were not allowed to do is give any legal advice because they did not have a license. Some of the evidence given to the professor was actually helpful to the professor for the case. What adds spice to the show is the cases that Professor Annalise has because majority of her cases are very dangerous and she is a attorney who is willing to do anything too make sure that her clients go free.

I didn’t watch the whole series but one thing that I can say is that it reminded me of why I wanted to be a lawyer because of the investigations and problem solving that needed to be done. Although not everything is accurate in the show but I would refer this show to people that wants to work in the criminal justice field. This show gave me some form of encouragement because I started to question if I wanted to continue in the field of law.

Court Observation

This case is JPMorgan Chase Bank, National Association v Caliguri. The month and year that this case was written is November 17, 2020. In the best way that I can understand this case is between a bank and a loan service. Based on my assumptions there was a form of miscommunication because apparently there was an open case prior. And because there was a case and it’s now close there some documents missing for this new case at hand and now the judges are trying to understand why they can’t have the original notes needed for this case and Mr Herzberg who is Caliguri’s lawyer is explaining how he was told that it wasn’t needed from the case prior but the judges are now trying to make him understand that it’s needed now because not only does he not have the original notes but it also seems like he doesn’t have any evidence to defend his case. And the judges are trying to make him understand that what happened in the case prior is not the same thing that will happen in this case because this is two different things.

What I found interesting is that as an attorney you should know that you will always need evidence and that it’s best that the sources and notes that you bring are original because it makes the case go smoother because the judges like to go straight to the point. The only thing that I wished is that the Judges gave Mr Herzberg the opportunity to speak  because you can never get the information that you need if you keep on cutting the person off while they speak. Not that i’m entirely agreeing with what Mr Herzberg did. I Liked Mr Schoenfeld’s presentation because he presented himself well and gave evidence at the spot.

Annoying ways people use Quotes

In Stedmans essay I learned about picky eaters and the way writers have to deal with them because of the random quotations and in the text he says ” I find that teachers do a disservice when we fail to alert students to the kind of things that some readers might be annoyed at—however illogical these things sometimes seem. ” and I also learned about Armadillo Roadkill which is “dropping in a quotation without introducing it first” which I never knew about because when I read I just read I never notice the quotations of even bother to notice where the quotations come from. And when I connect this to legal writings I realized that paralegals have to make sure that they analyze everything and their sources in order to move on and processed. Everything has to be accurate.

In my source entry on “Relationships” I used a legal source which talks about young girls being trafficked for sex and in the text it said how “ In order to stop the perpetuation and revictimization of sexually exploited youth, states should join the movement in passing safe Harbor laws, modeled on existing New York Law” which means that states should join together to stop girls from being trafficked and that was a quote that I used from the source, Now what I did wring was put the link to the legal source that I used so that people can see that source that I was using quotes from  and that was something that some picky readers according to Stedman don’t like

Legal Responce

In this case the paralegal assistant made a wrong move by 1) giving a legal advice to Mr Sussman,2) saying  “I’m an independent. I assist the general public. I assist attorneys with work” no matter what case it is you have too keep in mind that you are under the attorney and not the public. The assistant literally did the work of an attorney by going out his/her way to call the sheriff to ask what to do.

Election Analysis

In this article it explains the imbalance of the votes and the inputs of Joe Biden and Donald Trump. Im honestly on Bidens side because of the humility he has and the wisdom he shows in certain cases. The election just started and trump is already blaming democrats for playing with the votes. What I don’t like about trump is his mouth  he is very reckless with it. Every one is entitiled  to have their own opinion but how can an immigrant vote for someone who doesn’t even want them there? While Trump is ranting Biden Isnt really saying much. To be quite frank with you I feel like Trump is very childish and speaks too quick.

Law office

The law office that I’d like to work at is the Law Office of Keith J. Barry, Esq located at  1472 E 55th St, Brooklyn, NY 11234. It’s a family law firm where they take care of family related cases such as issues between or you can say concerning spouses, parents and children as well. This law firm takes all the cases that are brought to them to heart and they make sure that’s their responsibility to make sure that the cases are handled the right way. I would like to work there because i one day want to become a family lawyer and i feel like working in a firm that correlates to my major would give me an idea of what i will be getting into career wise.

Amy’s Responce

One legal issue that identified in “Mothers Tongue”, was when Tan said ” but i have noticed in surveys in fact, just last week that — asian students, as a whole, always do significantly better on math achievement tests in English. And this makes me think that there are other Asian-American students whose English spoken in the home might also be described as “broken” or “limited”. And perhaps they also have teachers who are steering them away from writing and into math and science, which is what happened to me. And the legal issue is discrimination because of the kids being pushed to math and science instead of writing because of their “broken” English.
