Discussion 3b: Language in Advertising

I selected “Carvana – Official Big Game Commercial 2022 – “Oversharing Mom” because I recall seeing it during the Superbowl and I enjoy it when companies utilize comedy to convey a story or market a product. Also, I’ve seen that people are more likely to remember an advertisement if it has comedy or some other form of gesture. The choice of language is important in this ad since it will grab the viewer’s attention with just a few terms. The recurrence of the phrase carvana, easy, perfect car, under budget were some of the words that drew my attention. And those terms are important since easy, perfect, and on a budget are all positive attributes. So, if somebody is in the market for an automobile, the use of words and language will catch their attention.

    This commercial is very interesting, and it can be seen from the reaction and tone of the protagonist that she is really very happy. The shots seamlessly connect many different scenes. I can understand her feeling of wanting to share joy with others because I am also a person who likes to share joy. This makes me interested in considering this brand if I need to.

    I enjoyed your post and commercial and I agree with you when comedy is used to advertise a product it sticks in the viewer’s mind and they also tend to share it on their social media platforms. The fact that she kept mentioning the name ” Caravana” is a great way to remind people of the name of the brand.

    Hi Andrew, I totally agree with your point that this advertisement uses only 30 seconds to show all its selling points by using the language of lines. Let the audience in a relaxed and funny atmosphere, but also to remember their key selling point. Really clever and well done.
